Home Building reviews in San Francisco

was very responsive. He came out with his foreman,
San Francisco Home Builders Provider Name Locked
, for the initial visit, the basis for his estimate. They took their time to see what the job entailed, and how it would proceed, and took into account the balloon framing of the building. They determined what supports would be needed for the building, and how many phases for the demolition of the original foundation and the concrete pour. They also discussed the removal of the debris. The bid was very comprehensive, and while not the least expensive, it wasn't the most expensive. I went with him because foundation work was all they did, and I felt they were experts. Once I accepted the bid,
San Francisco Home Builders Provider Name Locked
came out immediately with the structural engineer who developed the plan. The permit was obtained within a week, and construction started a couple of days later. The building was shored up in several places expertly, and the work went according to the plan. The crew also put in additional 1 and 1/8 inch stainless steel bolts in the rear foundation for additional support, which was not called for in the plan. They had an electrical contractor put in the electrical grounding wire before the first concrete pour. The work passed the electrical and building inspection before the first pour, and before the second pour. The job will be completed when the siding is repaired and repainted, the results of the concrete testing are incorporated into the final report to the city building inspection and a final inspection is completed.
The team operates very well, they know what they are doing, and they don't take shortcuts. I would use them again for any foundation work.

Under no circumstances should a neighbor ever be so involved in a remodel project that is not their own. If you see a
San Francisco Home Builders Provider Name Locked
go up on a neighboring project be prepared to be inconvenienced. Over the two years they worked next door they constantly blocked our driveway with their trucks and equipment, failed to keep the site clean and frequently allowed posted permits to expire.
We had constant conversations with the project manager involving their use and obstruction of our driveway including a day when they placed a crane in the driveway which they refused to move when asked. For the duration of the project a large container functioning as a storage facility sat adjacent to our driveway. They constantly allowed to posted permits to expire requiring us to contact the city building authorities. They allowed the container to be tagged with graffiti and failed to keep the area surrounding the container clean. At a point midway through the project when it appeared work and stopped, we were again required to contact authorities when a portable toilet started to omit an odor due to neglect.
Finally, we had a conflict with the project manager and their client regarding a fence between the two properties that was illegally removed without notice, or our authority. During this incident, we were required to consult an attorney, because of the inflexibility of the parties involved. We had ample opportunity in the resolution of this issue to experience the unprofessionalism and inflexibility of this awful firm.
We would certainly not endorse anyone to hire this company and would warn anyone who has them working nearby.

.this construction project was unplanned - dryrot discovered by painting crew who called in

. So we did not comparison shop on contractors, though our painter was picked from Angie's list, so we figured he had good connections. The initial start was fairly quick considering the short notice, there were a few followup issues on fixing the flashing and restoring the landscaping materials at the base of the foundation that didn't get taken care of for a couple of months, but the critical demolition and rebuilding of half the back of our house exterior went pretty quickly and the followup stuff did get done well once his crew had more time to respond to the followup concerns later.

This project went very well. This project had a lot of unforeseen "stuff" happen, but the price ended up only 20% more. Specifically, the original price did NOT include: 1) raising a 10 foot peice of footing at the entrance of the garage; 2) removing an addition cubic yard or so of dirt; and 3) adding an additional floor above the old floor to get the height to an appropriate level so that only a couple of inches of concrete was needed to finish the job on the inside of the garage.

is the consumate professional. He is creative and thoughtful; he thinks through a problem and offers several different ways of solving it. He is very honest and a man of his word. I have done much of my own construction work as a homeowner, and I was very impressed. He is an architect, so he has a fine mind which makes a difference when solving problems that come up in big construction projects. I worked with 2 other contractors on big projects for my home, and
San Francisco Home Builders Provider Name Locked
was the best by far.

also has an excellent crew. Every day they arrived on time or early. The crew was helpful and answered my many questions. It was a very dusty and dirty project with lots of heavy concrete and dirt. Yet, his team kept the worksite clean and bareable. I was very impressed with the crew and gave the head the crew a tip at the end of the job.
Finally, when the job ended there was one little detail that bothered me....some puddling near the footing of the foundation, away from the garage. This puddling was the result of unevenness in the adjacent sidewalk not on my property; it was not caused by any mistake per

. Still, I asked
San Francisco Home Builders Provider Name Locked
if he could somehow
San Francisco Home Builders Provider Name Locked
the puddle formed where the two sidewalks met from the unevenness of the grade. He did this at no extra charge even though the puddle was not really an issue I had to worry about. He gave me peace of mind which is one of the reasons why I highly recommend his company. I have never been completely satisfied with any construction done on my home, but this project was the best to date!

If you do not want to give your business and money to an unreliable, rude, and disrespectful person, you should avoid this man. Below is a description of the events that took place- all facts- so you can draw your own conclusions. I called this "company" (which really is a single man operation) on Wednesday, June 27th. Nobody answered and I left a message. He called me back the next day. I told him the situation with our stairs and that we needed to get this job done as quickly as possible (we had painters scheduled to paint the whole house and I didn't want the new paint to be damaged when the stairs were getting fixed). He offered to come take a look at 10 AM that Saturday. Well, 10 AM came and went, nobody showed up or called, so I called. He answered, but offered no apology or excuse for not showing up at the scheduled time. Fine, I won't make a big deal. He offered to come at 3 PM and did show up this time. He gave us his opinion on our stairwell. The plan was for him to replace the top 4 steps and then some hardwood floor guy he knew would refinish the rest. He told us that we should think twice about hiring just anyone who would come in with large machines and damage our stairs and that this guy he knows is the right guy for the job. We trusted his opinion and said "Good, let's schedule". He then said he has some family things and another job to take care of, but that he would call us in about 2, maybe 3, weeks. (Meanwhile, the painting will have to get done as scheduled and we'll have to pay for additional touch up paint later on). Two weeks passed, three weeks passed, no call... So I called him at the beginning of week #4, nobody answered. (By the way, he has no cell phone or email.) I left a message along the lines of "Hi, you came by and looked at our stairs at the end of June. You had said you'd call us in a few weeks, but we haven't heard back. We really want to get this done as soon as possible, so please give me a call back. Thanks." He called back 2 DAYS later. Again, no explanation or apology as to why he didn't call us when he said he would. On top of that, he said "I took another job after I saw yours. I should be done with this next Monday. I'll call you on Tuesday or Wednesday next week". Fine... we've waited this long, I can wait another week. I called back Wednesday late afternoon, anxious to get things rolling. Nobody answered. I left a message. He called back 2 DAYS later. Again, no apology. He said he just got done with the other job and asked what my availability is for the following week. I said I'll be out of town, but my husband will be available and asked if he could call my husband to schedule. He said "Ok, I'll give him a call on Monday". At this point I had had it. Why doesn't he just hang up and call my husband right away? Why is it that he says he will call and then never calls? Why is it that when I leave a message it takes him 2 days to get back to me only to say he'll call later? To top it all off, he actually said he hadn't talked to that guy he was recommending. It's been 5 weeks and he didn't get a
San Francisco Home Builders Provider Name Locked
to call this guy! At this point, I was so disappointed, that I actually started crying and I asked him if he could please call my husband now. Our stairs look like a construction zone and I really want things to be done sooner than later. I asked him if he could maybe give me the number of the other guy he's recommending, so I can call him since he hasn't had the time to do it. You know what he says? "You're so difficult to work with. I don't even know I have a job here". Excuse me? How am I difficult to work with? He is either extremely forgetful or he doesn't care. I really don't mind people forgetting things as long as there is a sincere apology followed by some action to make things right. Apparently, nobody taught this man any manners. He said "I'll call your husband" and hung up on me. He called my husband the next day to say he can't do the job because I'm difficult to work with. There is nothing more to what has happened than what I just wrote here, so I'm not sure how he came to conclude I'm difficult to work with. So here we are almost 6 weeks out when we could have found somebody else to fix our stairs if he had been decent enough to turn down the job if he had too many other things going on in his life. Anyway, I can't say if this man does a good job or a bad job when he actually delivers on his promise to do the job, but I just don't think rude people should be rewarded with jobs, so I hope you find somebody else to work on your stairs- somebody who will actually be happy that you're giving him/her business.

The finished product is every bit and more than I had envisaged. These guys share my eye for detail and when they handed me the shop it was pretty near perfect. We did have a few stumbles along the way as this is a concept shop and I was shifting things along the way. JAB adapted well and despite my alterations kept the final price pretty close to the original budget.

They had to remove most of a wall due to dry rot, replace the window and frame, sheetrock the interior, and paint everything they repaired. Plus, they fixed all the pipes that were leaking. (3). When it rained heavily two weeks later, there were no more leaks. Having lived with a leaking porch for 5 years, I was delighted to have a dry porch.

Overall things went very well.
San Francisco Home Builders Provider Name Locked
was willing to hire my plumber and painter as subs. The work looks beautiful and
San Francisco Home Builders Provider Name Locked
made sure if any mistakes were made, he had them fixed; for example, some cabinets were dinged by workers, the deck and steps had to be replaced in areas do to the same. Everyone went to extra mile to make sure I was happy with the results.

Having suffered through dealing with other contractors in the past, this was a really great experience.
San Francisco Home Builders Provider Name Locked
provided me with a detailed estimate, talked about the other potential issues that could arise once the walls were opened up, and laid out a timeline for each portion of his work. He did an absolutely beautiful job on my home. He is a real craftsman who takes an obvious pride in his work. He was also done right on schedule and completed my job 100% before starting his next project - unlike so many contractors who seem to tyake a pride in juggling as many jobs as they can at one time.
San Francisco Home Builders Provider Name Locked
is a true professional and I would recommend him completely.

The work took place in two stages, pre and post new roof. Two men quickly took down the roof structures, and capped the necessary plumbing fixtures. This took about 2 days.

After the roof was completed, the chimney had to be enclosed and encased with new siding, and a new cap put on. This took about 1 day after the roof was finished....More />
These men are clean, respectful professionals. They are considerate, they pay attention to the needs of the owner, and they do amazing work.

I highly recommend them for almost any building/construction project. They do complete houses, fences, decks, patios, you name it.

I will continue to use them in the future.
