The credit union has always extended a helping hand when one is needed. It was a helpful and great experience. I would definitely go back to that company again. They made me comfortable with investing my money with them.

I have homeowners/car insurance with

for over 30 years. When bad weather cause my fence to fall down, they refused to replace it because they said it was to old. The fence was not to old to insure for years. I have a crack on the side of my house from top to the bottom. This was not covered as well. I not getting anything for my money.

was financial adviser to me and my husband. He highly recommended we purchase $33,000 in an REIT, Wells Timberland, so we did (as we paid him a fee for financial advice, we took his advice). My 2012 statements from Wells Timberland looked fishy, and I discovered THIS had happened
http://www.finra.org/newsroom/newsreleases/2011/p125153of-misleading-marketing-materials--8983.html...More /> Our $33,000 investment is now worth $21,000, according to statements from Wells Timberland. And some say, still dropping. Wells Timberland had a very rocky history prior to the time we signed up. Wouldn't you think someone you hired as a financial adviser should have known about their history, known if they were reliable, and protected our investment - rather than putting it at risk? After all, that's what we hired Mr.

to do. The net abounds with law firms offering to represent us in a suit. Just sayin'.

After my father's recent passing, I contacted SSFCU because father's truck loan was through them. I was put in contact with the department that specializes in these sorts of situations, I believe it was called the "bereavement department". I explained that I needed to inform them of my father's passing and provided my name and all his account information. The individual I spoke with,

, was very matter of fact and asked what our intentions are with regards to the vehicle. I explained that neither my brother or I had access to my father's accounts yet as he did not have a will. I explained it would be about 60 days before we will have completed the legal heir-ship process and have access to dad's bank account OR around the same amount of time before any insurance monies are available to pay off the vehicle in full. Specifically, I asked if SSFCU would please stop charging (or later remove) any incurring late fees on my father's account so it doesn't continue to increase the balance while we attempt to figure out the best way to pay off the truck loan.

said no, because he is late on his payments. I said, no he isn't late, he is deceased. He has paid on time every month until his date of death. She told me that my brother and I are late on the payments then. I pointed out that our names aren't on the loan at all and have been assured we aren't legally responsible to pay the loan off at all. We are just trying to work with them to pay it off so as to respectfully close out all my father's affairs. We are merely asking for some consideration in keeping the balance from going up due to late fees while we get the situation handled.
After refusing to work with us on charging late fees,

insisted that we provide a copy of my dad's death certificate for his file. I asked why since they intend to handle his account the same as if he was alive and refusing to pay on time.

explained that they needed to protect their bank and make sure that no one comes in and attempts to open an account using his identity. I asked very specifically, "so you want me to give you a copy of his death certificate to help protect your establishment, not so you can help my family?" She said she guesses so. I let her know we have already reported his death to everyone we are required for identity theft prevention and ended that conversation without providing any further information. I decided to instead work with a local branch office with whom my boyfriend has an account and has been generally happy with.
Although I did not give out any of my contact information to
San Antonio Financial Planners Provider Name Locked
AND am not listed as a responsible party on the loan, somehow SSFCU managed to get my cell phone number on their collections calling list, calling multiple times a day asking for me and also for my deceased father requesting immediate payment on my dad's loan. The calls became so invasive I stopped answering my phone to any unknown callers. As a result of SSFCU's refusal to work with us on late fees accrued after my father's death and the constant collections calls to my cell phone, my brother and I nixed the plan to pay off and keep my dad's truck and instead returned it to a local SSFCU branch office.
The branch office for general banking has always been satisfactory, however the loan department, collections and bereavement departments definitely leave something to be desired. My boyfriend closed his accounts with SSFCU as to not support a credit union with inconsistent customer service practices. I surely will never use them after how my family was treated, all while we tried to work with them to handle the loan, which would have been in everyone's best interest.
