"The day before they were scheduled to come and do the repair,
Salt Lake City Chimney Sweeps Provider Name Locked
called and said his service truck was in the shop and he couldn't make it. I could not take time off work to be here for the work to be done after that time, and told him I did not want the work to be done in the winter because concrete does not do well in the cold. He agreed to refund my $192.50, and as soon as spring hit, he would come back and do the job. He left me a voice mail that they would mail me a check for that amount. After 2 weeks I e-mailed them and called them asking where my refund was. No response. I have e-mailed them twice and called them 3 times demanding my refund. They have just blown me off. Their business phone is a recording saying what services they provide and you have to leave a message with your name and phone # because they are away from their desk. THIS IS A CONSUMER WARNING. IF YOU ARE THINKING OF USING

answered my call and scheduled a visit to clean both chimneys. He arrived on time and assessed both chimneys which both desperately needed to be cleaned. He cleaned both on the spot with his heavy duty vacuum and showed me the mess that came from both cleans. He used many blankets to ensure that there was no mess. We built a fire that evening and had none of the issues of smoke that was previously happening. One of the fireboxes needed to be rebuilt so he scheduled to do that a week later. He again showed up on time. It was a complicated rebuilt and he took two needed days to complete the project that both my husband and I are very happy with.

is professional, straightforward, and we enjoyed working with him.

"I purchased this coupon because I do not know when the last time the chimney in my home was used. I was pregnant and thought I'd be able to complete a bunch of tasks while on leave. I made my appointment for 4 wks after my baby was born. I soon realized this was unrealistic. I called UPC to cancel my appointment for September & reschedule for November. I then realized I would have to have someone to help me watch the baby while services were being provided. I cancelled one day in November for another. As November approached I realized it was still too hard to try and get this done so I cancelled and rescheduled in December. Each cancellation gave the company ample of time to fill the appointment time.
Yesterday was the date the appointment was scheduled. I recieved an email reminder for 3:05. My husband and I both arranged to be at home for this appointment so one of us could tend to the baby. At 3:20 we had no one at our house and had not heard from anyone. I called UPS and was suprised to get an answer. I spoke with

and informed her no one was at our house. She said she would call the person and have them call us. We received a call back at 3:40 that my husband took. We were informed that due to the weather they were not doing any services and it would have to be rescheduled. We were very frustrated that UPS had made the decision to not provide services that morning and no phone call was made to inform us and we sat around waiting for 40 minutes. Knowing that its a lot for us now to schedule things and our chimney being cleaned was not a high priority I called and emailed stating we were not interested in rescheduling and would like a refund.
Here is the email string:

, Your running a business and should expect your clients to reschedule. Had I known a new baby would take up so much of my time I would not have purchased your coupon. I provided adequate amount of time for you to reschedule each appointment I canceled. As far as your customer service, it's probably the worst I've experienced from an Angie List company. I find it hard to get ahold of your company. Out if the several times I've tried calling to get a live person I've reached you on the phone twice. Good thing you have email or I wouldn't be able to reach you most times. And may I say, email is nice and convenient but it's not a way to run a business for an in person type service. I wasn't going to say anything until I just received your below response. Again, your not very good with your customer service. In addition, a phone call the day of the appointment to let us know you wouldn't be able to complete the job and reschedule would have been nice and good customer service. And having a way to schedule appointment besides through your website would be nice as well as it's difficult trying to find the scheduling on your website. It seems by my experience and additional comments I've now read on Angie's a List, your company needs to work on your customer service. With realizing how life changing having a baby is and trying to get thing done, along with the difficulty communicating with you company and your less than satisfying customer service I would appreciate a refund. Thank you,
Ronica

I the one that sent the email and as far as rescheduling the appointment the day of service we tried doing jobs but we don't control the weather so this would have been done a long time ago but you rescheduled with us and we can't help the snow fell I'm sure you did not want us on your roof and then fall due to unsafe conditions and as far as your refund go through Angie's list not us I just think that it is crazy we had to reschedule due to unsafe conditions and you rescheduled with us 3 times and the minute we do you get mad at our co. And cancel think about that
I do not wish to continue communicating with the company as it seems they jump to conclusions and have difficulty with feedback as you will see from other reviews of this company.

"Put temporary insulation (no charge) in area that had not been cemented in place when fireplace was installed. Reviewed fireplace operation since we had never had one before. Pointed out that there was evidence that there had been raccoons inside the chimney at some point and that we might consider putting a cap on the chimney (as many neighbors had done) to prevent this in the future. We decided to do this because our neighbors had just dealt with this problem.
The actual cost of the chimney cleaning and inspection was $129. Because we added the chimney cap it was a bit more.

could not have been more professional and prompt. He came within 2 days at a busy time of year. Gave us a report of his inspection with some suggestions for future repair of chimney. There was absolutely no pressure to do more work than had been
requested.

"My house is 90 years old, and after recenly buying it and remodeling it, I needed some input on my fireplaces. These guys came out and gave a great and thorough inspection so I know where to go next. Unfortunately I have to save up to make some more repairs, but if I had started to use the fire places as-is, I could have had a dangerous situation, OR a lot of black smoke in my house!

"I made an appointment to have my chimney and wood burning

insert inspected and cleaned. I also needed to purchase new chimney caps. I had to wait a few weeks for an appointment, but I expected that since it was getting colder outside. Genelle made the appointment for the day before Thanksgiving. A week and a half before the appointment, she called me back trying to reschedule the appointment. She had lots of openings. She didn't say so, but I suspected they wanted to take the day off before Thanksgiving. (Later I heard on their business voice mail that they would be closed on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.) We settled on a morning that week at 8:30 a.m. I took the morning off of work. No one had come by 9:15, so I called and had to leave a message. Genelle called back at 9:30 and said she couldn't reach

called me at 10:15 a.m., and asked if he could come now. I told him I needed the work finished by 11:30 because I had work commitments; could he do that? He said no. I asked what we should do. He said he could reschedule me but not until after Thanksgiving. I asked for a discount. He said he could give me a discount if I was willing to do some of the work myself. I reminded him that I had taken my time off work and that he was already an hour and 45 minutes late. He said that Genelle had already given me a discount for the quoted price. I told him I was unaware of the original discount. I will find someone else to do the work.

I paid $308 (my grocery money)

"Their work was very professional and very well done. I particularly appreciated that they were able to do the job on the weekend. They rebuilt my brick chimney, which was in very bad shape, as well as lining the chimney for venting the furnace and capping the chimney appropriately. Great work, very attentive on returning phone calls and great service.

"Arrival was punctual, service was professional, and they didn't try to sell me any expensive additional services. In other words, they didn't use the two chimney inspections to create unnecessary future "repair" work. My only negative comment, and it is a minor one (the reason for a "B" rating on responsiveness): The person handling telephone calls was very sweet, but she was never available in real time. I always had to leave a message, even when calling during regular business hours, and the return call was seldom prompt (more like a day later than an hour later). I don't know whether this was unusual or not.

"He started by removing our existing chimney cap from the top of our chimney in a way that it could not be replaced... and charged us an extra $10 to do so! He never told us that he would not replace the grate after he removed it. As a result we paid $10 to have him de-value our chimney and open it up to racoons, leaves and anything else that may want to climb in. Later that night, I found the pieces of the grate strewn across our front lawn when I accidently stepped on one of them. In addition, when he arrived we had a chimney pillow installed (just above the fireplace) to keep out the draft. Because we do not have a metal damper or insert, this pillow was the only thing preventing our chimney from being simply a gaping hole to the outside. We asked him to put the pillow back in place when he finished... he refused. So, while his high power vaccum did keep soot off all of our furniture while he was cleaning... our room (as well as my clothes and my face) did get dirty after all, because I had to climb into the fireplace myself and reinstall the pillow in the chimney. He offered to install a damper for an additional $395."
