"Great, it was fast and neat and we got useful information about future maintenance issues and options. He also squeezed us in quickly before a pending business trip that I was taking in a few days.

-Bruce Q.

"I called and scheduled the service in the fall. They called me to reschedule because the provider was sick. They then cancelled the rescheduled time because the" provider was still ill. I was very understanding until they stopped returning my calls to schedule service. I probably left 5 voicemails without getting my call returned. I hired someone else and gave up on getting the $55 service I had already paid for.

gas fireplace with fire burning
Fireplaces, Chimney Sweep, Plumbing

Dear Angie: How much can I expect to pay to have my wood fireplace converted to gas? Our house is about 30 years old. The bottom of the fireplace looks like it's easily accessed through the basement. The conversion would involve running 30 to 50 feet of gas line. — Thomas M., Cincinnati, Ohio

Chimney Sweeping reviews in Salt Lake City

I paid Angie's List directly for the "Big Deal". I was eventually contacted by the contractor who inspected my chimneys and gave me an estimate. I signed electronically for services and

never responded. Called and left messages, sent emails, etc. Heard the company went out of business. Where is my money?
- Richard F.

Did not contact me after I paid Angie's List "deals" for it. I don't know if it is Angie's list's fault or the fault of the company. Angie's list did refund me my money, however, for this "deal."
- D. K.

We did not use this provider because 1) we had a negative experience scheduling a quote. Providers shouldn't offer discounts on Angie's List and then act harried and put out when someone calls to redeem. 2) Their price was $1000 more than the quote we received elsewhere. This was a waste of the $99 I spent on their "offer".
- Allisen M.

Very well. He arrived on time and performed job in timely and efficient manner. Very helpful in answering questions.
- Barbara C.

They were nice and professional enough during the cleaning and inspection. They seemed to have a nice lady working in their office who helped keep things organized and she was pretty on top of it. Unfortunately that is where our positive experience ended.
First of all, after the chimney cleaning, we have not been able to light a fire in our fireplace. It seems like the chimney is clogged up somehow. Maybe the flu is stuck shut? The fire never catches -- just smolders and fills the house with smoke. NOT GOOD.
When they originally (during the September cleaning/inspection) gave us a bid of ~$600 for repairing the bricks/mortar on our chimney, we told them we wanted to get the work done (the damage can be seen from the street) but needed to save up the money first. We called in November and contracted with them to complete this work, and paid half of the money as a deposit. The second half was to be paid on completion.
We also explained the problems with lighting a fire but asked them to take a look at it when they came out to do the repair. They agreed.
The first appointment we had, they were very late and then called to explain that they had gotten backed up with work and could not make it to our house that day. They rescheduled for the next Saturday and promised to put us as the first appointment of the day.
Saturday, later in the day, they called to say that the snow on the roof made for dangerous conditions and they would put us on the next Saturday.
The next Saturday, it had snowed again so I emailed them and said that we didn't want to wait around the house if they were going to have the same problem with snow on the roof and it didn't seem safe so could we just go ahead and cancel? I didn't get any response until I sent a follow-up email a few days later. His response was, "Well I didn't call or email because it seemed like you understood the weather conditions." I did, but a little communication would have helped us know how to plan our day. AGAIN. By this point, we were sort of annoyed with blocking out time to be home and them not showing up or canceling ahead of time.
Since then we have heard nothing. Their nice office lady seems to be gone. No one calls back. (don't bother leaving a voicemail -- they aren't returned.)
We have emailed and called multiple times. Today, their phone seems to have been disconnected. We have paid nearly $300 in deposit and are trying to figure out how to get a refund. (We did not pay that through Angie's List -- only the first coupon.)
We are more than willing to resolve this with them, but fear they are gone, gone, gone.

The day before they were scheduled to come and do the repair,

called and said his service truck was in the shop and he couldn't make it. I could not take time off work to be here for the work to be done after that time, and told him I did not want the work to be done in the winter because concrete does not do well in the cold. He agreed to refund my $192.50, and as soon as spring hit, he would come back and do the job. He left me a voice mail that they would mail me a check for that amount. After 2 weeks I e-mailed them and called them asking where my refund was. No response. I have e-mailed them twice and called them 3 times demanding my refund. They have just blown me off. Their business phone is a recording saying what services they provide and you have to leave a message with your name and phone # because they are away from their desk. THIS IS A CONSUMER WARNING. answered my call and scheduled a visit to clean both chimneys. He arrived on time and assessed both chimneys which both desperately needed to be cleaned. He cleaned both on the spot with his heavy duty vacuum and showed me the mess that came from both cleans. He used many blankets to ensure that there was no mess. We built a fire that evening and had none of the issues of smoke that was previously happening. One of the fireboxes needed to be rebuilt so he scheduled to do that a week later. He again showed up on time. It was a complicated rebuilt and he took two needed days to complete the project that both my husband and I are very happy with.

I purchased this coupon because I do not know when the last time the chimney in my home was used. I was pregnant and thought I'd be able to complete a bunch of tasks while on leave. I made my appointment for 4 wks after my baby was born. I soon realized this was unrealistic. I called UPC to cancel my appointment for September & reschedule for November. I then realized I would have to have someone to help me watch the baby while services were being provided. I cancelled one day in November for another. As November approached I realized it was still too hard to try and get this done so I cancelled and rescheduled in December. Each cancellation gave the company ample of time to fill the appointment time.
Yesterday was the date the appointment was scheduled. I recieved an email reminder for 3:05. My husband and I both arranged to be at home for this appointment so one of us could tend to the baby. At 3:20 we had no one at our house and had not heard from anyone. I called UPS and was suprised to get an answer. I spoke with
Salt Lake City Chimney Sweeps Provider Name Locked
and informed her no one was at our house. She said she would call the person and have them call us. We received a call back at 3:40 that my husband took. We were informed that due to the weather they were not doing any services and it would have to be rescheduled. We were very frustrated that UPS had made the decision to not provide services that morning and no phone call was made to inform us and we sat around waiting for 40 minutes. Knowing that its a lot for us now to schedule things and our chimney being cleaned was not a high priority I called and emailed stating we were not interested in rescheduling and would like a refund.
Here is the email string:

Their response:
Wow really you rescheduled on us 3 difrent times and due too snow we could not make it out but it was OK when you rescheduled on us those 3 times when we could have scheduled other people in those spots
My Response:

, Your running a business and should expect your clients to reschedule. Had I known a new baby would take up so much of my time I would not have purchased your coupon. I provided adequate amount of time for you to reschedule each appointment I canceled. As far as your customer service, it's probably the worst I've experienced from an Angie List company. I find it hard to get ahold of your company. Out if the several times I've tried calling to get a live person I've reached you on the phone twice. Good thing you have email or I wouldn't be able to reach you most times. And may I say, email is nice and convenient but it's not a way to run a business for an in person type service. I wasn't going to say anything until I just received your below response. Again, your not very good with your customer service. In addition, a phone call the day of the appointment to let us know you wouldn't be able to complete the job and reschedule would have been nice and good customer service. And having a way to schedule appointment besides through your website would be nice as well as it's difficult trying to find the scheduling on your website. It seems by my experience and additional comments I've now read on Angie's a List, your company needs to work on your customer service. With realizing how life changing having a baby is and trying to get thing done, along with the difficulty communicating with you company and your less than satisfying customer service I would appreciate a refund. Thank you,
Their response:
First of all I'm the owner my name is
Salt Lake City Chimney Sweeps Provider Name Locked
I the one that sent the email and as far as rescheduling the appointment the day of service we tried doing jobs but we don't control the weather so this would have been done a long time ago but you rescheduled with us and we can't help the snow fell I'm sure you did not want us on your roof and then fall due to unsafe conditions and as far as your refund go through Angie's list not us I just think that it is crazy we had to reschedule due to unsafe conditions and you rescheduled with us 3 times and the minute we do you get mad at our co. And cancel think about that
I do not wish to continue communicating with the company as it seems they jump to conclusions and have difficulty with feedback as you will see from other reviews of this company.
