"The system is not operating again as of 11/22/2014 which is ~2.5 months after the last service. Although the repairman is nice and always shows up as expected," I should not have to see him on a regular basis! So, for the 6 years I've had the unit I've paid > $650 dollars for those 5 repairs and now have to make another repair call. I'll be sure to update this review after my next visit which I will schedule today. This is pretty bad as this is my 5th home and 3rd
unit and I never experienced not one service call on the other two units over the combined ~8yrs I owned them. I would suggest not purchasing a
unit. I have multiple neighbors with Kinetico units on the same water supply who have not had any service calls over the same time period.

"We worked with Pat, as had many others in our neighborhood. He was great and never tried to oversell us. There was no pressure to buy, even though we had already" decided before our first appointment with him. He presented all their different options, and has never tried to upsell us. Pat's son was our installer, and he was equally friendly and professional as his father. we've had the system for 3 months and are very pleased with it. Our skin is no longer dry and scaly; our sinks, bathtubs, faucets, etc are easier to clean. It was definitely money well-spent! We just had a follow-up appointment with Pat to check the system, do a water test, and answer any questions. As always, he was very helpful.

3 tips to select the best water treatment

Don't overpay for the wrong water treatment system. One highly rated provider offers some tips to help you choose the right system for your home.

Water softeners

Even if your tap water comes from a reservoir, chances are it previously passed through underground caverns where it absorbed mineral deposits. Water with a high concentration of minerals is referred to as "hard" water. It's safe to drink but can harm your plumbing and appliances.

Tired of hard water stains clouding your glass shower door? It takes diligence, but it is possible to keep a glass shower door clean. Find out how.

Water Softeners

You just bought a home that came with an unused water softener. How do you turn it on? One highly rated provider breaks down the process in five easy steps.

Water softeners are beneficial because they can extend the life of your water-using appliances, plumbing and clothes. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member Kevin F. of San Antonio.)

Do water softeners need routine maintenance? Many are fully automatic, but others might need service if there's a noticeable difference in water quality.

Angie's Answers

I actually just replaced my Pelican Natursoft "water softener" with an more-traditional ion exchange model.  I used the natursoft for a little over 4 years, and I can say it worked as advertised.  When remodeling a while back we decided to get a tankless water heater.  All the documentation indicated that hard water with the tankless heater is a no go.  We had to do somehting, but since I'm lazy (didn't want to deal with the salt or plumbing in a drain) and my wife didn't like soft water, the salt-free model looked attractive.  I too was somewhat skeptical, but the reviews I found looked good, and I know enough about the science of nucleation (I was a material science major in college) to know that what they said made sense, so I bought one.

One thing needs to be made clear - the natursoft system is NOT a water softener!  It contains a media which nucleates some disolved metalic salts out of solution.  These crystals, once formed, remain in the water, and still react with oils, detergents, etc. in the same manner as the disolved salts.  They also continue to form scale wherever water is allowed to evaporate, such as faucet nozels and shower heads. In fact, it's possible that evaporative scaling was even worse than before we installed the system.

Importantly, however, once in crystaline form, these salts do not stick to pipes, or in my case, heat-exchangers.  My tankless heater has a sensor to indicate when it needs to be descaled, and the manual indicates that for my water hardness and hot water use I should have had to descale approximately every 6 months.  In four years with the natursoft the descaleing indicator has never gone off.  For further evidence, when I installed my new softener a few weeks ago, I had to cut sections from the copper pipe on both the inlet and outlet side of the natursoft.  Both sections of pipe were installed at the same time as the natursoft, but while the pipe on the inlet side was green and rough on the inside, the outlet pipe looked and felt like new.

As such, if you want or need a salt-free system for some reason (low-sodium diet for blood pressure, don't like the feel of soft water, can't easily plumb a drain into the softener location, or can't carry heavy bags of salt to the softener), then I can unequivocably recommend the natursoft.  If, like my wife and I today, you want soft water, that feels soft on your skin, creates less soap scum, rinses cleaner in the dishwasher, etc., then the natursoft probably isn't for you.

Water Softener Installation And Repair reviews in Raleigh

We are very pleased with our service and the water system. Emailed A&E through Angie's list. I emailed several local water conditioning services through Angie's list at the same time. A&E responded quickly.

came that week and tested our water for bacteria and conditioning needs. He made it clear that the bacteria test was sent to a lab and had a cost, the others tests were at no cost. Bacteria was in our water and

came to the house to assist us in understanding how to treat the well to make is safe short term and discuss a long term solution of a UV filter. At this point we wanted to shop around for a UV filter system and needed the short term solution to give us safe water and time to shop. After checking with other sources, we went with A&E. They were prompt to reply. Scheduled at our convenience. Showed up on time. Was very considerate to not try to over sell the water treatment to include things we did not need. Installed the system and included an after installation test to insure the system was working.
It was great service!

I spoke with Pat about our orangish red water. He came by, tested our water (no charge), and shared the results with me. He recommended a 3 stage filtration system to remove the iron from the water.

promptly came out a few days later and installed the system for us. It took about 5 hours total. After purging the water in the house, I am extremely happy to report we have beautiful crystal clear water. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions and for a job well done!

Pat Smelik of Advanced Water Systems (AWS) came out on 1Feb2013 and went through a full set of water tests and made sure to ask about our water provider and the water system in our house. He made sure to ask about what we wanted, how many people lived in the household and made sure that both my wife and I were involved and could ask any questions we had. He even waited around for another 20 or so minutes for my wife to get home so that she could see the options and ask any questions in person.
While they were willing to install the system in the following days after the estimate and order, they were willing to schedule it for the following Friday. The installation and plumbing changes were all performed in-house and not contracted out to another company, which I found quite accommodating. It meant that if anything were wrong, then I would only have one company to deal with and there wouldn't be any finger-pointing between companies while I was still left with a problem.
After the install, the AWS crew cleaned the work area up quite nicely and spent the time to go over the system and the maintenance that I should expect. They also made sure to show me the rock salt that they used and explained why they chose it and where they purchased it from. They also made sure to leave one of the empty bags at the softener/filtration unit as a reminder since it is about every 2 months that I need to check the salt level.
After a year now, we are about ready for our first R/O filter replacement and we will have AWS come out and perform that maintenance and show us how to do it in case we wish to do it ourselves.
Lastly, they worked with us on a billing plan so that we could pay it off based on our expectation of finances. This was the only piece that we ended up having issues with. The plan was for 6 months of payments with a full payout at the end of the 6-month period. The bill for the payment that I expected to receive a request for the remaining balance, it was for the normal 6-month rate. This was easily remedied after a short call with their offices where the office manager and I quickly went over the situation and how to complete closing out the account. But, it was a minor inconvenience that I did not expect after all of the other outstanding service.
I highly recommend AWS to install a

system and have to a number of my friends and co-workers and look forward to our next maintenance.

thorough, professional job. vendor left extra filters & multiple bags of salt for use, vendor walked me through filter replacement and addition of salt to the unit

The initial explanation of services was very thorough and professional. Installation went very well. The water was previously awful. Typical AQUA well water. Now it is great both for drinking and bathing. The cost of this system is a lot but it is wonderful to have good water that doesn't stain everything and tastes great.

This is the most knowledgeable service provider of water purification that I have ever used. He explained everything - lots I did not know and gave me tips on how I could use it more efficiently. I would love to replace my system with a new one, but cost right now does not fit my budget. But when I have the wherewithal to have a new one installed,
Raleigh Water Softener Companies Provider Name Locked
will be the company I will hire! Very impressed with professionalism and knowledge and of course know-how.

What was supposed to be a "Free" inspection to check for leaks turned into a $230 lesson. The actual condition of the expansion tank is questionable considering that my neighbors had no problems and experts say that exapansion tanks last much longer than mine did. Also, I was charged $60 for the tank that the company bought from Lowe's. The Lowes website listed it for $42. I was charged for the time which included the hour it took for the worker to drive to Lowes and purchase the tank. So, for a 2 hour job, 1 of those hours being the time to go to Lowes, I was charged a ridiculous price. As a single mother of 2 children, I was taken advantage of. The work completed seems to be fine, but this company has failed to promote ethics among its workers.

I live in a neighborhood served by a private well service with hard water. After installing a tankless water heater, I learned that the warranty could be voided because of scale buildup from using hard water. I decided that I needed to filter my well water to protect my tankless water heater. I'm fortunate that my neighborhood has a referral system for service providers which referred me to Kinetico and
Raleigh Water Softener Companies Provider Name Locked
. Initially, I was just interested in a whole house water filter and that was the basis for my appointment with Pat of
Raleigh Water Softener Companies Provider Name Locked

When Pat arrived at our appointed time I told him that I wanted a quote on a filter because I had a tankless water heater and had been told that using hard water may void the warranty. I explained that I was not interested in a whole house water softener because I had them in the past and wasn't a fan for two reasons; I didn't want to install a new tap for drinking water and because washing with it made me feel that I couldn't get the soap off. Pat acknowledged my concerns and agreed that tankless water heaters require special treatment including regular flushing and that installing a whole house water filter is an option.

Pat next told me about his company, Kentico's technology, and explained all of the water treatment options and the advantages/disadvantages of each in detail. He patiently addressed all my concerns and answered my numerous questions. Next he performed extensive tests of our water for hardness, acidity and contaminants and demonstrated how the result would be different depending on the water treatment selected. At no time did I feel pressured for any option and he always acknowledged that installing just a whole house filter would be an improvement. I felt as if I was getting an education instead of a sales call.

Armed with all the evidence I decided that installing the combination Macrolite/softener was the best option. It would not only protect the tankless water heater warranty but also save us money in reduced maintenance and expenses.

The installation, which was in a crawl space went without any issues. The installer was personable, experienced and knowledgeable. He worked tirelessly to get the system up and running quickly. Once he was done, he took the time to explain the system, its components, how the shut off unit worked and when to add salt.

I would highly recommend both the Kinetico technology and

. for anyone interested in water treatment systems.
