Raleigh Water And Smoke Damage Specialists Reviews
The next call (a few months later) was for them to give me a quote on the work needed under our primary residence that I was planning on selling. We had a washer leaking for a few months and I knew there was going to be some water damage and potential mold. Once again, to my surprise, the news was good. Some minor tasks were identified (most of which was not in the scope of work they performed) and they didn't feel any repairs were necessary unless the buyers’ inspection proved otherwise. For a second time, this company cost me $0.00!
The third call was for a house we made an offer on and our inspector had some serious concerns regarding the condition of the crawl space. He advised us to bring in an expert to test the moisture levels and to inspect certain "suspect activity". Without hesitation, I knew exactly who to call. This time I asked for a formal inspection so there was a $125 inspection fee (which was later applied toward the overall cost of the project.) After the inspection, we received a 45-minute consultation. We learned there was, in fact, a significant moisture problem as well as some areas with mold. The inspector told us that even though the issues were substantial, they were correctable and that we shouldnt let these issues
The project quoted for $7,950 and involved:
1) Digging a trough around the interior perimeter of the crawl space (approximately 2,300 sf crawlspace) which would capture any water seeping in from outside and drain out the of the crawlspace at the lowest point. They ran the drainage to a convenient location near our house. The entire trough was filled with pebbles for filtration.
2) Remove all the insulation and treat/scrub any moisture areas to remove any mildew/mold. Also cleaned/organized any wiring as well as removed any debris.
3) Seal the crawl space with ground plastic as well as up the sides. Also permanently sealed all the crawl space vents so there was no ventilation from outside.
4) Tapped into the HVAC system with multiple vents so that the crawl space is warm in the winter time and cooled in the summer time (actually improves the HVAC efficiency).
5) Suggested using the existing vapor
We used this quote as part of our negotiations with the buyers. We ended up buying the house and hired HHR to do the work they quoted. They were booked for a month so they came out immediately and temporarily installed a dehumidifier to help control the atmosphere and keep the conditions from getting worse. They also provided us with a radon meter to monitor the radon levels throughout the house during that timeframe. Once the real work started, they called me every day to let me know when their team would arrive and give me status updates. The workers were always on time, polite and happy to answer questions. I have never dealt with a more professional company.
The end result is amazing. I have had two different workers come do other work, which required them to go into the crawl space. They were both amazed at the condition. One said it was "the best crawl space experience he ever had" and they complimented the work without me asking. I recently spent 4 hours under there running speaker wire for a surround sound system and can't believe how immaculate the crawlspace is.
Again, it was a pleasure to have such a quality company to repair my house. They are the best I have ever had.
We had a skylight in the master bedroom that had been leaking for quite sometime. We patched it and would have repaired it ourselves but the skylight wasn't a standard size. Recently after some heavy rains the popcorn ceiling near the skylight fell down and we noticed some water leaks and possible mold damage. HHR was the first company listed for mold remediation and one of the highest rated on Angie's list so I called them first.
The subcontractor additionally failed at trimming out the floors with "quarter round", and had to be made to return, correct and finish where he had failed to install trim.
I am ashamed to evaluate
The vinyl siding is buckling around the entire house. Pieces have literally fallen off of the house ~ there was no storm or wind.
Two professional painters have been through my house and both agree NO primer was used on ANY sheetrock prior to "painting." I use that word very loosely. The whole interior, front porch, formerly finished garage and doors were never painted properly. Whomever wrote the review about the painting was very lucky. Flat paint was used in all of my bathrooms. The sheetrock is buckling underneath from the tub/shower water and moisture. You can still see the tape around the top of my kitchen at the ceiling. The moulding used in my house is nowhere near the quality of what was in my old house.
I have had to replace the appliances because they were substandard to what was in my home prior to the fire. The
The hardwood floors are buckling on the first floor, have scratches on them. In the downstairs bathroom there was a pretty bad leak and the hardwoods and mouldings are ruined, which Mr.
I had a nice hall closet and pantry. Not anymore. Now I have an inside utility room with almost a 12" hole and a dozen wires or more just hanging out.
My master bath is a garden tub, but is surrounded by a single, plastic surround. At least 12-14 inches are not covered; hence, walls are getting ruined and flat paint is not helping.
The kitchen linoleum is coming up approximately an inch at the door jam and the wood floors are cracked at every jam. Under the sink the trim was never nailed down properly. One nail. It's coming off.
I have never seen such a mess after a construction site in my life. Me and friends have picked up truck loads full off construction garbage, including shingles, rotten wood, glass, thousands of nails, the double sink from my kitchen was on the back porch. Empty food containers, drink containers, thousands of cigarette butts, plastic, you name it and evidence of alcohol and marijuana use on MY property was also discovered and disposed of. Not acceptable.
The floor where the fire started is now sinking in spots and you can see it on the ceiling on the garage below. No floors are even.
They painted over mold on my front porch and it looks worse than it ever did.
The finishing work is disgusting. The gaps are anywhere from 1/4" to 1" in some places. Those who have come through here to see the work to fix what has been destroyed are actually in shock. If my house is not finished properly, it can be condemned as unsafe.
don't be fooled by Mr.
The light in my son's closet does not work. Electrical outlets were not placed where I requested. They disconnected the lamppost wiring and garden pond from the house and REFUSED to reconnect it.
The stairs were not replaced and creak like they are 100 years old. Wet carpet was on them for two years. Squirrels lived on the steps with nuts for goodness sake, and Mr.
I had better closet shelving in my apartment than in this house. There is no closet shelving in two of the closets.
Trees were cut down but stumps were left. Shrubs removed or destroyed were not replaced.
There are holes in every bathroom around toilets and sinks and where the washer and dryer hookup is where mice and rodents can easily come into my house. The outside water connection comes off in your hands and is literally coming out of the side of the house.
After looking at pictures (which survived) of my original house, I have received estimates ranging anywhere from $85,000 to $120,000 to return this home to a home worth $240,000, including providing the balcony drawn up on the plans which apparently my house can't hold the weight of, as well as metal shelving taken from the garage. There are NO light sockets in the garage. I told him I didn't need as many as I had because I used to run a business from there.
He did not pay his subs and sent them after ME to be paid. I guess he is very proud of himself doing this to someone he has known since we were 13 and knowing I am a single mom of an autistic child. If he will do that to me, what do you think he will do for you? Just food for thought.
I think you get the gist of what's going on. I would be HAPPY to have someone come through this house and see how bad it really is. I don't want him or his crew to touch ANYTHING in my house to screw it up even more. I want a refund to have the repairs done properly and safely.
Thank you for your time.
Based on this, we will not use them for the repair.
The employees of E.R. are all amazingly friendly and understanding and are quick to offer a kind hand when you need it the most. We only ended up using their services to remove items from the home as our landlady's friend was a contractor and offered to take the rest of the job on himself. In hindsight I really wish we had used Emergency Restoration for the whole reconstruction project because they were fast, friendly and didn't take short cuts at any point in the process.
While you may be tempted to cut costs and go with another company, I strongly urge you to use Emergency Restoration for all of your emergency needs. We were very satisfied with the service they offered and wish we'd used them for the entire restoration and reconstruction project!"
They put me in a hotel for three weeks and were in touch with me twice a day. They also dealt with the insurance company.
They boxed up things that needed to be cleaned separately from those that didn't require cleaning, and sent clothing, curtains, bedding, etc., to be cleaned. It was all immediately returned, and tagged with my name.
They had taken photos of everything in my house, so when they brought my belongings back they put everything exactly where it had been located.
They gave me a 5-year warranty on the work they did on the floors. They even matched the floor color to the other rooms that did not have to be refinished.
All the while they were 100% attentive and professional. They were awesome."
