"Fast, efficient and professional. Cleaned up after the work was done - you could never tell he'd been there if you did not know that the installation was brand" new - the place was spotless. I am totally satisfied with the product and the service.

" does beautiful work. I have hired him before for projects as large as down-to-the-studs complete kitchen and bath makeovers, to this smaller" job. HIs craftsmanship and attention to detail are excellent. This wasn't a big job, but since I live in a house that is over 100 years old, nothing is standard size or even. worked through some old plumbing and uneven floor issues. The finished piece is sturdy and level, and looks beautiful. It's just what I wanted. I always call when I have work to do at my house. He will not do a quick, sloppy fix, he is absolutely dedicated to doing the job right the first time.

This part of Don's answer follows my thoughts exactly:

"You want to deal with a professional person that is selling you a bath that was not working as a cashier a few months ago."

Do you go to the gracery store and ask for someone to cook your steak?  Of course not.  So why would you go to a building supply store and ask for someone to remodel your bathroom?  Rarely will you see a legitimate contractor take jobs from a retailer.  Why?  Because they don't pay much.  Speed is the most important thing to them, along with getting it done cheap so they can maximize profit.  About 10 years ago I worked on a few contracted structures (sheds, garages, etc.) from Home Depot.  They contracted to another company who then contracted people to build them.  At that time they paid a flat $250 for a contractor to pick up the supplies, build the structure on site, paint it, and use their own tools.  By the time the cost of a helper, fuel, tools, etc. was factored in there was nothing left for the contractor.  Anyway, the point I'm making is that the guy who will eventually show up to do the work will be so far down the line that everyone else has already taken the profits (Home Depot, ReBath, possibly someone else, and finally the guy working) that he probably isn't going to care what kind of job he does for you, quality or not.  He likely won't have much experience due to a high turnover rate and any experience he does have will probably be limited to his teachings at that job.  He probably can't answer any building code questions or identify other hazards once things are taken apart and he certainly won't do anything he doesn't have to while it is apart.

Another problem I've heard of repeatedly is that if (when) there is a problem there is always someone else you need to speak to.  You might have to talk to 4 or 5 different people before you can even get to someone that can address the problem.  Now multiply that due to having (at least) two separate companies involoved.  "You need to call ReBath."  "No, you need to call Home Depot."

You hire a general contractor for a reason.  We learn, understand, and keep up on building codes.  We are the one point of contact for all questions and issues on a project.  There is no manager in some other store, state, etc. to call.  You contract a GC and deal directly with that GC, or a site supervisor in some cases.  There isn't a huge chain of command to get through to reach the main decision maker for the business.  In a bathroom remodel you need someone who can do the plumbing, repair and/or move any electrical, install tile/flooring, drywall and paint, trim carpentry, and someone to coordinate all of that.  Sometimes you can find a qualified contractor to do all of those things and sometimes he will sub-contract out certain components (especially due to licensing laws) but you will always have that one definitive person to go to for any questions or issues.  A salesman in a store doesn't visit your home throughout the project to check on the status.  Even if he did, he likely wouldn't now what he is looking at.  The same goes for a retail manager.

Hire someone who specializes in taking care of your home.  Hire based on reputation & knowledge/experience.  You are right that not every customer can be happy so an occassional bad review can be found on just about any business.  Read the reviews, not the grades (they are always biased).  Look to see if the contractor attempted to rectify the problem, not ignore it.  Lastly, unless you want cheap, sloppy work and a whole heap of other troubles, don't hire based on a low price.

?

You gave a good description, but without seeing some photos and maybe even the space itself it would still just be a guess.

A few years ago we replaced a significant load bearing beam to raise it up a foot in the new kitchen.  It was nearly 17' long with a new LVL beam.  For us this was pretty reasonable.  The LVL was about $250.  And maybe 12-15 2x6s, to temporarily support the ceiling joists, were probably like another $75.  The labor was $800.  There was also some finish work done afterward, but that was worked into a much bigger job for the entire floor.

Technically speaking, it is likely that you need to have something spec'd out by an engineer or architect, to calculate load, etc.  I don't know your area but in most places "a mere contractor, GC, or carpenter" is probably not allowed to just rip out a load-bearing wall without someone who is qualified to do the load calculations (which will be VERY conservative.  A brand new LVL will be VASTLY stronger than it really needs to be, but it won't be expensive.  The typical contractor will be like "hey we'll sister up two 2x12s", and not really know if that'll do the trick or not.  I'm not saying that all guys are like that, but ... it is what it is.

What you are talking about is probably at least a bit more involved and I'd love to give a good estimate but it's hard to say without a better understanding of the space.

You may be looking at $1500 - $3500?  It depends on too many specifics that we just can't know without a bunch of photos, and maybe even opening up a wall or ceiling to see exactly how temporary supports could be installed, and where the permanent beam/header could be placed and properly supported.  Your span isn't all that big so if at all possible I would do it without columns - it'll be much nicer.

If I were you I would first have a quick consultation with a "professional engineer".  They are qualified to calculate load etc - and cost a lot less than a full architect.  In my experience, an engineer just wants to provide a quick, proper solution without a lot of extra BS.  My experience with architects has been less than favorable.  Too much drama and expense and he actually spec'd things wrong and my carpenter had to pick up on it.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.  Good luck!!!

Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.
?
What I always ask my customers regarding this question when remodeling bathrooms is how good they will be about maintaining and cleaning the new bathroom, especially when the old bathroom is obviously neglected.  If you are one of those people who wipes the glass down after a shower and cleans your bathroom every week or two you really don't need to spend the extra money.  If you are at the other end of the spectrum and clean it when it finally bothers you enough it may not be a bad investment.  I've had customer tell me they can tell a difference compared to their old glass without it and others say it made no difference at all.

and his team was fantastic!! Great to work with, very responsive and thoughtful throughout the remodel. He brought a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table and made some outstanding suggestions which we are extremely happy with. He was onsite 90% of the time throughout the remodel and did a lot himself. We would highly recommend him.

The entire company is great from the sales person who came out the next day after contacting the company to the gentleman who did the install. Plus they were one of the few who would just ...More do a shower not require an entire bath remodel.

Concise Version:
They told me it would take them about 3 weeks to get my windows in and 1 day to install installed (that was 8
but not installed until September 4) - almost 2 months later!
My home is in excellent condition but wanted to replace 5 front windows for better efficiency and my original bathroom ...More window (round top square bottom with safety glass perfectly trimmed and finished but the seal started leaking). I interviewed 6 different window companies and tried to pick the top model double hung replacement windows with what "seemed to be" the most professional business through Angie's List. I was promised that the windows had a life time warranty as well as the labor. I also paid to have all the brick molding replaced with PVC and only Sills to be wrapped.
Because of the unresolved problems they caused and the way they treated me (the owner of my home) I have called my
cities city inspector and talked to the City Inspector and was told this company Was Required To Pull a Construction Permit for this job but They Did Not! The whole purpose of the city inspectors is to protect you the home owner and that things are done to code. Now I found because this company didn't follow city requirements I lost that over-site and protection.
This company IS Not a member of the Better Business Bureau (they have a very bad review from what they did to another customer). BBB members tent to be much more likely to care about their reputation And resolving disputes Before it becomes a permanent record.
The Owner directing and managing the
projects Is Not a Licensed General Contractor according to the Licensing Board of General Contractors even though on Angie's List they state:
Licensed: On 8/27/2013, the provider indicated "Yes, I am appropriately licensed for my trade"
That means they do not have the certified educational benefits of a licensed contractor and may not meet the standards and requirements to be licensed. And Are Not under the rules, regulations or ethical practices required by the
Licensing Board of General Contractors that help to protect the public!
Why does this company use 3 business names?

Luxury Bath & Kitchens
Home Craft Windows
(the last two names are on opposite sides of the same business card)
Problems Remaining Found
1) Found 5 deep gouges in expensive new bathroom window framing itself (Not just the surrounding trim)
2) He replaced bathroom interior molding that worker damaged with a piece of PVC and exposed the
artificial wood grain side instead of smooth side so doesn't match the rest of the trim.
3)Bathroom window exterior expensive exterior brick mold PVC trim does not match up with straight PVC trim at the joints.
4) Worker wrapped bathroom window sill with aluminum but bottom aluminum it is floating - not backed up with anything solid
behind it) AND never re-caulked the sill to the house siding inside and house siding was chipped off in 3 places.
5) One of the front window bottom sash window pane seals is bad - water penetrates the seal
6) One front window screen has a 3 inch tear on the
7) When the worker was reinstalling the outside shutters he caused two shutters to severely bow and some screw areas
concave dips (and could break the plastic shutters) because improperly screwed back in.
8) All of the window sill aluminum cladding are all left open and unsealed at the bottom. This allows moisture and insects to exist in this void. My neighbors are completely sealed and strong (cannot be bent) and insects can't get in. I am currently arranging for another company to tell me if this supposed to be open or sealed
9) One of the new front windows sashes was severely binding (that is the one of the big sales features/demonstrations is how smooth and easy replacement windows are to open/close)! Poor quality control - workers install
windows and don't even verify their operating properly?
Resolved:
When I showed the owner the window sash that was very Difficult to open/close (was severely binding) as usual owner
first just tried to act like nothing is wrong! (constant strategy - if there is a problem - don't admit it so you don't have to fix it!
Or if his workers break it - cover it up - out of site - out of responsibility) ) Then all owner wanted to do is just put WD40 on it and get down the road and make the bedroom smell like petroleum.
I am the one to discover window balancer assembly was not set properly and was binding in the side jam and recommended trying to switch the bottom sash with the adjoining window bottom sash. That fixed the problem, the window was no longer binding and now opening properly. (Imagine it's the stupid incompetent homeowner that finds and fixes the problem instead of covering the problem up).
I showed the owner the problem some of the problems I discover at that point with the bad bathroom window trim joints and bowed shutters and he called back and said no problem the boss worker would come out and fix
the issues then next day Saturday 10am. But when the boss worker shows up, he doesn't come in the work vehicle, he comes in his compact car, no latter, no tools just a caulk gun. I asked him why he didn't come prepared to fix the problems like the
owner assured me?
All he did was tell me to sign the loan papers to pay the rest of the bill and I told him Only after the problems are fixed and he starts running his mouth how he will put a lean on my home and fixed nothing.
Of course I immediately called the office to complain but was closed so I called the owner's mobile number but he didn't pick up. So I left a message that the boss worker came to my home unprepared and fixed nothing and threatened to put a lean on my home. He also dared to tell me its the responsibility of the homeowner to get on a ladder and remove and put back their shutters! Can You Imagine?
Some hours later my phone rang and the salesman that sold the windows called me up and refused to let me talk and just to harass and threaten me and told me this was the last conversation (was the only call since the sale) then he was going to get a put a lean on my home and me. I told him don't call me unwilling to discuss anything just threaten and harass me. I
told him I already talked to the owner - who was he and he threw in my face he (the salesman) IS A PARTNER and he started cursing so I hung up on him.
What happened to his friendly sales pitch that "the windows and labor are guaranteed for life. don't worry, you are in
good hands and the windows we are selling are one of the very few so high quality that we have the Good Housekeeping Seal! (I was shocked to later discover so does one of the cheapest windows made (Window World). Professional? Great Customer Service? Lifetime Warranty? Would rather the homeowner then get some issues resolved and have good customer satisfaction and good reviews?

We absolutely picked the right folks for this job! The project turned out even better that we imagined. (ARS) made the most of each work day. They installed a new ceramic tile floor in the bathroom and created a beautiful new shower enclosure with ceramic tile and marble trim and a great glass wall. Their craftsmanship and ...More attention to detail were exceptional. Demolition of the old bathroom was quick and with minimal dirt/disturbance to the rest of the house. They disposed of all the waste, and cleaned up thoroughly when the job was done. 's design suggestions kept the project on the right track. He had no problem with us doing the painting and installing the new sink base and sink ourselves to save a buck. The project was completed on time and to our complete satisfaction. Many thanks to and his team at ARS for their fine work on our behalf. He proved to us that you can make a silk purse out of a 's ear! We recommend ARS highly and without reservation. We certainly would put them to work for us again in the future should the opportunity arise.

came very highly recommended by the contractor who completed our kitchen demo; as well as from the cabinetry designer. We have a small kitchen and we went with an aggressive design to pack in as much functionality as we could. One particularly tricky area was the island where had to contend with a floor ...More AC vent and an air return with very little wiggle room.
was absolutely amazing on all accounts. On the first day he knocked out nearly the entire installation; coming back on the second day for finishing touches. Watching him work is very impressive, he has a clear focus, passion, and mastery for what he does.
There were multiple potential issues in our kitchen including uneven floors, HVAC in the way, and trying to hide/cover patched wooden flooring. For each item was able to think critically on the spot and find creative solutions. kept me informed throughout the process and engaged me in the decisions, giving his professional opinion and letting me decide which solution I preferred.
is warm, friendly, professional, tidy, and absolutely should be a part of the conversation for any wood working project you have.

Overall pleasure to work with (owner) and his brother , who was there for the entire job with a helper each day. was professional, patient, and fast. The entire job was completed in 9 working days, mostly by himself with no additional subcontractors parading ...More through the house. We originally asked for quotes from six vendors, and was the first to respond with a home visit and with a quote. The final price came within 10% of the original estimate, and included unforeseen work in my 35 year old house - floors that needed leveling, plumbing that had to be moved to accommodate a vanity I purchased, and a variety of small extra tasks that added up in total labor time spent on the job. The estimate given by was straightforward - a quote for labor only, with an estimate for materials used in construction (plumbing valves and fittings, concrete board, drywall, shower waterproofing materials, etc.) There was no additional markup for owner purchases, and no separate charges for demo, cleanup, etc. In addition to the final invoice that I paid, I spent about $10,000 for owner purchases - toilets, vanities, vanity tops, flooring, tile, and a separate bill from a recommended contractor ( ) for installation of a frameless shower door in the master bath. Note that is not a design consultant. They do the work you request, and it's up to you to find the best brand or color of materials. Some other shops may offer turnkey service where you come into their showroom and just pick out what you want. If that's for you, fine, but you'll pay a lot more for the entire job. I was comfortable doing my own research and picking out quality, functional items at good prices, much of which came from the Home Depot (online, where there's a new world of choices beyond what they sell in the store). The biggest luxury purchase was tile, where I spent about $2000 (included in the $10,000) for quality imported porcelain tile for the small master shower and floors. In fact, waiting for the tile to arrive from Italy held up the job midstream from my end, but was accommodating in moving his schedule around to time the arrival of the tile. Overall, I was very pleased with all aspects of the work. After admiring my master bath tile now for about six weeks, I still can't find any tiles out of place, crooked, or mismatched. A superb tiling job by and a great experience all around.
