"I had a number of small projects that all had rapidly jumped to the top of my to-do list. The hot water heater was in imminent

of failing, the window was starting to leak, etc. I wanted to find a company that could cover all these things so I wouldn't have to meet with several different contractors. Being your own general contractor may pay off on big projects, but it's not worth it for little stuff because of the time investment.

had a great Angie's list reputation so I gave them a call.

called me back later the same day and we scheduled the estimate for two days later - he was extremely flexible. He came out and evaluated what I needed and said he would be emailing me the estimate in a few days. The following Monday (we had met on Thursday) I had my estimate which was completely reasonable. I also liked the estimate because it broke down each task by price so I knew what each segment of the project was going to cost out of the whole. I agreed to the estimate and he immediately got me a contract by email. Once they received the deposit they scheduled my work. From when I called for the estimate until the work was completed, a total of 2 weeks had passed, which I consider quite good turn around.

and his fellow workers were professional and friendly and I felt very comfortable with them in my home. The work was completed as described and I am very pleased. I plan on using them again - I have a 110 year old house and if it's not one thing, it's another around here!

"This guy is excellent. He and his son call you back, show up on time, do beautiful work, and charge reasonable prices. He had a tough job with installing my vanity, and took his time so that it came out perfect. I could not be happier and will call him again if I need him."

Potential costs of a plumbing leak

When pipes running behind walls burst or begin to leak, they moisten the drywall; eventually, this moisture makes its way through the walls and produces wet spots. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member Gloria A. of Hollywood, Fla.)

"Excellent.

"I would definitely use this company again. I don't, however, like the $49 mandatory service charge added to the bill when we actually had the work done. I can see if you decline the work and the plumber had to make a service call for naught. I talked to the personnel in the main office and they dismissed the charge. I do feel this company is professional and the workers are courteous and knowledgeable."

"The owner returned my call within a few hours, even though it was Sunday. By this time I had solved the problem myself. He was very courteous and very helpful, even though I told him the problem was fixed. But he offered some good advice on taking care of the fixture in question in the future."

"I had originally called another plumber that I've used before who was out for several weeks with an injury. He referred me to this company. Once I contacted him the communication process was a little slow (phone tag over 2-3 days) but once we connected we got the job scheduled (about a week after the initial phone call). He showed up on time, worked efficiently and did exactly what was needed. I'm very satisfied with the work."

"A steam valve was malfunctioning. They sent an obnoxious, pushy service man to my house. He took one look at the furnace stated "we can't work on that furnace, it looks like it is dangerous, I am going to have to test it and if it fails, I am going to have to turn it off." He conduced a bogus co test then insisted on turning off the furnace and told me it would have to be replaced for approximately $6,000. I asked him to leave and called a reputable technician who advised there was nothing seriously wrong with the furnace other than that the chimney needed cleaning and the cleanout door replaced. I had this done, a co test was done showing no problem at all. On a very cold day. GEM tried to scare me into buying a new furnace. I subsequently spoke with GEM who told me that this guy had done this kind of thing before and still worked for the company. Great. Thanks Gem for being so upright with your customers. Once again...I am a very long term customer who has used GEM many times so this is particularly annoying."

"The plumber unclogged the drain at an incredible price - not only to my wallet, but to my pipes as well. I went to run the water in my tub after he left, only to realize that water was now leaking onto the floor! When I called to have him come back out, he told me it was because my pipes had corroded from the drain cleaner I tried to use. I felt foolish, and he patched the leak with duck tape. The next day, my family plumber (who was unavailable to do the job when I needed him) came by, he told me that there was nothing wrong with the pipes and the technician from Roto was lazy and I had been duped out of money. I am furious..."

"My wife found

Inc.'s website one night when our boiler in our "new" old house started spewing water into the basement. We know little about furnace/boiler/radiator systems and were rather panicked that our basement would flood. A quick

on the internet found ER Plumbing and their emergency hotline. The technician who answered walked us through the steps to take to stop the purging of water and basically taught us about the boiler over the phone. We called back several times as new questions arose and he encouraged us to call back if necessary. Considering it was late at night on the weekend, I was thrilled to have this service. The phone service itself was free! Since I felt I owed the company something, and I wanted to understand my boiler/radiator system better anyway, I scheduled a house call. A very friendly and knowledgeable employee came out the next Monday to look over the boiler and give us a tutorial. The charge was $90. I would have paid that just for the over-the-phone information and peace of mind it provided. A house call, assessment of my boiler and a tutorial for $90 was more than worth the price."

"They were excellent. They asked if it was an emergency, and I said "no but I would appreciate a fast response", they sent someone out the very next morning. There were two sinks that had a problem. Once they figured out the main problem with one sink, they asked if I wanted to make a large repair. I asked if I needed it and he said, "not if you aren't comfortable". He was was very professional and honest. I was charged the hourly rate, but a little extra for a part that needed to be installed."
