was very calm and nice when I called to reserve my truck; though the process did take quite a while to complete. I was quoted a price of $300 to match the price of another quote and was thrilled to have found a vehicle on short notice. I received email confirmation of my $300 rental. When I went to pick up the vehicle,

reworked the reservation. I told her that she could write it up however worked best as long as I received the same $300 rate; "no problem." Again, it took quite a while, and we were not clear what the problem was with the reservation. I signed on for maximum insurance coverage. We were taken out to see the truck which we were told was "new," and shown the storage space. It was pulled around to the front for us. We got on the road and entered the highway. Apparently highway vibration affected a broken passenger-side mirror. I could only see the pavement and it was extremely dangerous to change

to get off the highway without any visibility. Once we did get off the highway, we pulled over and tried to adjust the mirror, realizing that when we drove just a few feet, it resumed its downward view. We managed to get home and discovered that there was no promised key for the truck cargo lock. We called U-Haul about the problems and someone came out to fix them about 75 minutes later. He had to take the entire side mirror off to fix it and had to install a new cargo lock. We managed to get on the road with only about a 90 minute delay and the truck operated well the entire weekend. We returned the truck after hours pushing the keys through the slot with a note telling the agent that a missing wallet had resulted in the need to cancel the credit card on file and that I would be by first thing in the morning to pay in cash, which I did promptly before 9am on August 23. When I got there, however, I now dealt with

, who told me that I owed $398. Astonished, I said, no, it was quoted in writing as $300. Then he said, "no, $347. " Then I held my ground and told him that I had exactly $300 in cash with me and that that was the rate quoted to me, not $398 or $347. I gave him the cash and asked for a receipt. I went directly to a dental appointment. When I returned home,

had called to negotiate what he called "taxes." I told him that my copy of the rental agreement already showed the taxes and the total as being under $300. He said he would put a "hold" on it until we came to an agreement. On Friday, August 27, I received a call from the U-Haul regional manager,

, who listened to my story, agreed to the $300 ceiling, and told me that unfortunately, unless I took care of it that I would be turned over to collections! I said, "

, are you unaware that you already have $300 in cash from me?" He was not. Then began the communication with him to prove that I had a receipt for cash signed by
Portland Moving Trucks Provider Name Locked
, which I had to go out and fax to him, that morning. After another phone call with him and an email documenting that the account was paid in full, I was able to be reasonably sure that my credit rating was intact! Mr.

was an extremely good manager, thank goodness. No $300 estimate should be $398. No reservation should have to be reworked. It's always best to have the "new" truck (88,000 miles on odometer) in safe working order with all keys and locks prior to rental. No cash payment should disappear into the till and require a regional manager to intervene in order for it to surface. It was a frustrating and disappointing experience. I would definitely try a different U-Haul location.

I wanted a lot of topsoil for my burgeoning garden, but I didn't want to lug it up several steps from the sidewalk. So I called these folks and they came out the same day. This company delivered right where I wanted it. And their price was reasonable.
