Portland Roofing Contractors Reviews

"We lost quite a few shingles in a recent storm. I call them when I noticed the problem the next day at 5:30 and they had someone at my house withing 1 hour. The foreman put on a temporary fix so it wouldn't leak and let me know the entire ridge needed to be replaced. He scheduled when to come back and replace it. He came back when he was supposed to and was punctual and on time. He was very professional and gained my trust quickly. The price for doing all the work was less that I had feared. It was such an easy experience I hired him to clean off the moss while he was up there. "
"They came out promptly, spent a LOT of time looking around, then told me there was no leak, that the dripping had been caused by snow getting up under the shingles and melting. No charge -- yea!!! And sure enough, there have been no more drips. What a company!
"We met with the sales rep and he was very knowledgable. He knew we had a budget to work with and he worked with it. They called for the time of day and delivery. The delivery that morning they were right on time. They were here all day because it was 3 big windows. They brought in tarps. They cleaned all of the windows when they were through. They used scaffolding to help with the install. It took 2 men and they did an excellent job. They explained how to clean the windows on a regular basis. They cleaned up and vaccumed the work area and the garage when they were complete. They are very neat and professional. They followed up with all questions when I had any. The windows turned out to be super fantastic and great. There is a 100% difference from before. We are very happy with the way the windows look. Because if the style of windows we don't need to use blinds and it is a beautiful pictureesque windows.
"Contacted provider after purchasing an Angie's List Big Deal, the sent a scout crew to look at the roof for about five minutes and left. Did not hear back from

for two weeks. Calls went unanswered, until I spoke with the owner/manager who (while was laid up with the flu) assured me that he'd get cracking on the maintenance. Two weeks passed received a quote for 1200?1500$ additional work, only requested one small part (that was actually part of the original Angie's List big deal) and have not heard back from

for ten days. Their work crew was professional and quiet, their business practices and management are very, very poor. DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY.
"Flat roof on commercial building. Leaked around drain spout entrance. Another roof company charged me $750.00 to fix leak without success. I called Cascade, They came out on scheduled date, removed small area of roofing, found source of problem and fixed it.
"The company took my name and said an estimator would call for an appointment. The estimator called and made an appointment with me and did not show up. I decided to give them a second

and called again. The estimator, to his credit, admitted that he simply forgot and we scheduled another time. Once again, he did not call or show up. To be fair, on this second occasion, the weather got really bad and I expect that was the reason; however, as a customer, I still expect a phone call to let me know he would not come.
"RJ was great. Professional, friendly, full of facts and information. I didn't know the first thing about siding, but he came in with samples and was great at explaining things in detail about design, materials, and my favorite part . . . energy efficiency and R-factors.

seems like a great company with a sincere and solid interest in manufacturing and selling high quality products and in making sure the customer is happy. Their warranties seem to surpass others that I've come across in the contracting industry. Their cost is on the higher end, but with the service, professionalism, and high quality product and work they provide, along with the warranty, it may well be worth it. They have excellent payment plans as well, but I'm still just not quite in a spot to move forward with new siding or roofing.
I am a single homeowner/woman so it can take a little while for me to wrap my head and wallet around large home projects. When I'm ready to make the move though, I'll be sure to check back in with

"We were replacing a 26 year old cedar shake roof with composite architectural shingles. The existing shake roof had skip sheathing so the entire roof needed new plywood sheathing in addition to the re-roofing. I got bids from several Angie's List A rated companies including those who had big deal pricing. There was a wide difference in the quotes. Then on recommendation of a friend I contacted

who we had not previously considered based on other reviews.

called me back immediately and arranged for

to come out the next day to provide a quote. Their quote form was easy to read and included items that were options or extras in some of the other quotes and we were able to pick the shingle manufacturer and type of shingle. It was by far the best value of all the bids we would receive. We made the decision to go with

based on the knowledge and professional demeanor of

kept me apprised of when materials were being delivered and visited the job site often to make sure things were moving along. The crew was punctual, professional, hardworking and clearly knew what they were doing when installing the roof. They also put plywood down on the driveway to protect the surface when the dumpster was delivered and did a great job on cleanup. The job was finished in 2 1/2 days. I strongly recommend you include

"H&B Roofing was one of four companies in my area rated very good to excellent by Angie’s List that I invited to bid on re-roofing my house and detached garage, a total of 2,300 square feet. All four seemed competent and their bids closely matched for comparable work.
H&B’s rep met me at a convenient hour after work and thoroughly examined my 25-year-old roof from outside and in the attic areas. His bid included a tear-off of both the house and garage, replacement of decking where needed up to two sheets of plywood, new underlayment and flashing, installation of GAF ”American Harvest” composition shingles, and much improved venting of both structures.
He did the most thorough inspection of any of the company representatives who visited, and was the only one to photograph and describe in detail a defect in the flashing next to our chimney and recognize what appeared to be water staining on the interior wall of an attic area beneath it. He was also the only rep to suggest “smart vents” for the side attic areas behind our second-floor knee walls. The small attic area at the house’s peak had only tiny vents at each end, and he was the only rep to consider replacing them, included in the bid.
After the inspection we discussed materials and the work crew, which are H&B employees, not subcontractors. He prepared a handwritten estimate which was a bit disorganized. (He clarified it on the phone later.) When we later met to make the contract, he took his time to include phrases we both understood. I paid half down at signing and he gave an estimated date work would start “about three weeks” later, which would have been October 16.
In the interim I would have appreciated phone calls from him with increasingly-better estimates of the start date, but I had to call him. The rep told me the revised date of October 18 and said he would be present at the start of work. The crew arrived without him so I felt it necessary to review the contract details with the crew foreman, who fortunately seemed already to know them well. These two inactions by the rep were the only minuses in an otherwise positive experience.
Their work dates fell exactly on dates where I had a previously scheduled, though optional, personal business out of town. In retrospect I should have cancelled that business so I would have been present for this important and expensive home improvement, to witness the process from start to finish and exchange information with the rep and foreman as needed.
All of the major work and clean-up was completed in two days, and two side vents that the rep had to special order were installed a few days later, at which point I paid the rest of the contracted amount. The workmanship appears excellent, and after three months of fall and winter it is holding up well. I am interested in how the roofing and especially the new venting will perform in the summer of 2014.

All four seemed competent and their bids closely matched for comparable work. I chose one of the competitors. Since I did not select this company, my evaluation is based only on the initial contact with the company, and the salesman/rep’s inspection, conversations, and written bid.

’s bid was the only one that included complete new wood decking for the house, which I judge would have added structural strength to the roof and provide superior underlayment for the shingles. The rep was very knowledgeable and answered questions to my satisfaction.
After we discussed work and materials he prepared a handwritten estimate that included my choice of shingles and a general description of the work on a pre-printed form that included additional details of the work and payment terms. I was disappointed to find several misspellings and poor organization in the pre-printed text.
