"The crew arrived on time, were very professional and took care to tear down the old roof without damaging anything. It took them two days to complete the house" and garage and they did a great job of cleaning up afterwards. This is the second house we have had them re-roof and we would certainly recommend the company to others.

"Very professional services. They have high standards for the work they complete. They brought a very large crew in an attempt to complete the job in a single day" (Friday). They ended up having to come back a second day (Saturday) to finish - I appreciate this extra effort rather than just pushing through and rushing the completion in one day. In addition, the weather was very hot when the work was being done, but all the workers were very upbeat whenever I stopped by. It seems that a lot of Cascade's crew have been with the company a long time, which bodes well for the quality of their work. The crew did an excellent job cleaning up at the end of the project. Since the job was done, I've received numerous compliments from other contractors on the quality of the work. There have been no leaks or any other reasons to call the folks as Cascade since, but based on the level of service they provide and the care they take in their work, I expect that they would be quick to respond if I needed it.

new asphalt shingle roof and gutters with gutter guards

5 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Roofer

Before signing a roofing contract to replace or repair your roof, ask potential contractors for this information.

two layers of crumbling asphalt shingles

7 Warning Signs You Need a New Roof

Is it time to repair or replace your old roof? Look for these red flags before calling a roofer.

A visible inspection of your roof line can reveal a buildup of snow and ice and an accumulation of icicles. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member Donna B. of Mendota Heights, Minn.)

Clogged gutters or insufficient insulation can cause ice dams to form, which can damage your roof.

As a home seller, there's nothing more nerve-wracking than waiting for the results of the buyer's home inspection.

?
Wow, i aum surprised you didn't get 10 answers already with roofers say X was the best or N was the best or A was the best. In reality you are focusing on the WRONG THING!

5 estimates? Why 5? Why would you do that to yourself? Normally if you are dealing with reputable companies you don't need more than 2 estimates. I advocate to people to always get at least two estimates and if the roofers are saying something very different or if the roofers are way way way off in price, get an equalizer, get a 3rd.  Obviously if you don't trust a roofer disqualify that roofer immediately.  I beliee you have now fallen into "Analysis Paralysis" which is what happens when you have too many opions.

But back to the topic, I said you are focusing on the wrong thing. Why did I say that? Because you can take the best shingle in the world and if installed wrong is compeltely garbage. i can take the worst shingle, known to fail, and if installed properly will last some ammount of time. So you should focus on the roofer, not the product. The roofer is more important and a good quality roofer will only want to install good quality product.

The roof is a system comprised of many components, not just the shingles. You have the water proofing underlayment such as ice shield, the water resistant underlayments such as felt. You have the shingles, the ventilation and the flashing details. All of these things add up to equal one roof. Neglect one and your roof is doomed to fail.

But the roof is more than just product it is detail, know how and heart. Heart? yes heart. It takes the utmost CARING the utmost DESIRE to want to install a good roof. It's hard work and easy to fall into the train of thought as to do what's easier, instead of what's faster.  Faster and easier seldom ever equals better. At the end of the day you ened a roofer that cares about your roof.

So what product is best? That's hard to say. Each manufacturer has multiple plants and it seems each plant puts out varying levels of quality. I will tell you in my area Atlast is known as a cheap commodity shingle. I have Tamko Heritage on my house but I stopped using it because I was having seal failue issues and at the time they offered no contractor certification program, but I hear they started up one. Ownes corning is a decent product backed by a great company. I don't install very many OC's though. I primarily install CertainTeed Landmark shingles and my feeling is that they are the best on the market in my area. I'm sure others will disagree with me.

But don't miss the point, the roofer is more important than the shingle.
?
I appreciate the fact that with homeowners like you who want to beat the insurance co out of deductibles, so then my rates and every other homeowners rates can also go up just to save you.....Thanks for NOTHING..[8o|]
?

Any roofer worth using should be able to do the roof with NO MONEY DOWN.

The only scenario I would ask for a deposit is on a crazy odd ball shingle that had to be special ordered.

?
The question was, Can it be done? The answer is yes. The real question is "Should" it be done? The answer is, no, not unless it is an emergency.   But also let's clarify winter, because we are having a pretty mild winter, so there's kinda not a problem this year so far. I'll refrence "below freezing" from this point forward.

As a certified and licensed roofing contractor, my reputation is on the line. I debate this topic quite often with other roofing contractors who seem to care more about profit than a job well done.  Well, I can tell you from past experience having been a professional roofer for 14 years as of the time of this posting, that the chance for failure increases exponentionally when installed below freezing.  It's better just not to risk it.

Personally I will not, unless absolutely necessary and the customer signs a disclaimer of limited liability, install a roof below freezing and really really want to install the roof at 40 or above. The shingles need to seal, and will not seal unless they warm to about 70 degrees F ambient temprature. This does not mean it needs to be 70 outside, because the shingles will warm from the sun.

So what can be done to install the roof below freezing? Well first, the roof should not be gun nailed below freezing. This is because the shingles become brittle and it's easier to "blow through" with your nails. It's also harder to regulate air pressure when it is cold, I speculate because of barometric pressures, but I am just guessing.  Therefore the roof should be hand nailed. This takes more time. Furthermore since the seal strips will not seal, they must be manually sealed with proper compatible adhesives. This will also take more time, and more material. I once spoke with a roofer in Alaska who builds tents around the houses he is working on and covers them with tarps and heats with propane heaters.  Now that takes real time!    The question is, are you prepared to pay for this extra time? Can you wait a few more weeks?

Took a while from estimate to actual job,
.Estimate in August. I'm sure they were backlogged because of the dry summer months in Portland. Job got done in October just before the steady rain came. Excellent work. The job done over the course of 2 days. I have a small house. One man did the whole job. Very professional. Tear down on the shed. ...More Average cost. I'd recommend.

It went very well - work was finished in one day. I was concerned because I live on a one lane road with almost no parking options. Had several conversations with Cascade about this prior to the day of the work. Most of the workers were told but some apparently did not get the message. But all were cooperative and quickly moved their cars when asked.
...More /> The lot is sloped and access to the roof was not easy. Cascade had to build a scaffold from the parking area to the roof to transfer the old roof parts to the dumpster. They did this fairly quickly and managed to do the complete tear off without damaging surrounding vegetation. There was quite a large crew and the work progressed rapidly. We had removed everything from the attic, assuming the work would get anything stored there very dirty. That was a good decision and we were glad afterwards to be able to easily vacuum up the dirt and replace attic items.
The roof looks great and we are confident of the quality of the job. They cleaned the site thoroughly before they left and even sent us a present a week later as thanks for the business!

Workers were very polite and efficient. They cleaned up after themselves and were tidy the 3 1/2 days on site. Rich was very responsive when issues arose and made accommodations when requested. We decided at the last minute to replace our roof windows. Didn't even get a quote before-hand - we were that comfortable we were ...More not going to be gouged. And we weren't. I carefully reviewed work as it was performed and found it to be truly quality work. By the way - we had many estimates but Rich was the one we chose because there was no guesswork. No speculation. Worst case scenario price was provided. Given the horrible condition our roof was in, that was comforting. I highly recommend this company.

My roof is the end of it's useful life (20+ years), and knew that I'd eventually have to get the project done, as it was already in poor shape when I purchased the home 6 years ago. That being said, I'm of in-home sales calls, so I tend to have an attitude of skepticism about these types ...More of visits. I actually had a to get a bid from a couple years ago, but declined the project as I simply didn't have the savings to pull the trigger on it.
This time I met with , and he did his best from the moment he arrived to be friendly, courteous, and helpful. He first did a visual inspection of the exterior and pointed out areas that were tell-tale of a roof that is in bad shape. Then he came inside and took a look in the attic to check out the condition under the shingles, and pointed out the misgivings of the previous installation. It seems that the current roof was installed without any substantial ventilation, which has only added to the accelerated deterioration.
After the inspection, we sat and discussed as a company, the products that they use, and what sets them apart. I have to say, for a product/service that most people don't actively set out to purchase, these guys have their work cut out for them. After all is said and done, I feel good about the company and the products they intend to use. I feel confident they will install it much better than the current one, and they worked hard to get to a price point I could afford.
Looking forward to the final install!

initially contacted me to identify if a new roof was needed. Due to a leak I noticed from the interior, I thought it would be timely to begin the discussion. He assessed my current roof, admitting that I could maybe wait another year or two before moving forward, but advising that I act as soon as possible in order to prevent ...More damage to the home. I knew the existing roof was on it's last leg, as I had a number of roofers over the past year tell me the same thing. He measured the home, calculated the amount of material I would need, and then presented a number of options to fit my budget, informing me of the benefits and differences of each. He was kind and courteous, allowing me to voice my concerns and needs before offering a solution. Having in my home was comfortable, and I was able to trust that he was not just there to make the sale, but rather to make sure I understood the benefits of a new roof and that I understood it was my choice of when and how I was going to proceed. He offered me excellent financing options, and got me on the calendar in less than a week! I am so excited to have a new roof- it is going to look great, protect my home, and add value to my home. There is no doubt that I will get every penny I'm investing in return when/if I choose to sell. I highly recommend anyone speak with of to identify if/when they may need a new roof. The entire experience was pleasant. Being in sales myself, I am able to easily identify those salesmen who simply want to make the sale, and those who are invested in the customer and their satisfaction. is definitely the latter.

has a salesperson, Nels, who also acts as a quality inspector. He was very helpful, transparent about the quality of roofing and manufacturer guarantees, and the work they would do. The team was on time and completed work as inspected. They were very fast, but because of the extent of the work it took a day and a half. Nels ...More was on site mid-day and end of day the firs day, and at the end of the second day. He went up on the roof to check the work and reported back.
Anyone who has had a roof replaced knows it is messy work, and we have all new landscaping and hardscape. The team covered everything outside the house to about 10-12 feet, and also backed up a trailer where they threw the debris. When they left, the yard was spotless - we did not find a scrap of wood, a nail, or a shingle.
We are extremely satisfied and would both use them again and recommend them to others.
