Portland Radon Mitigation Experts Reviews

"We had a 2-day radon test when we first bought our home in Feb 2013. It came back at 4.2, so we decided to retest later on to see if occupying the house (going in and out) made a difference. We called Cascade to retest in October and it came back at 5.9, so we figured we'd better mitigate. Since we were have some electrical work done in our basement, we asked Cascade if our electrician could do the electrical portion of the work, thus saving us some money. They were very accommodating and that worked out fine. Their work was very professional and of excellent quality. When they retested, the level had gone down to 2.0. Cost of the initial test was $160. Cost for the install was initially $1650 but reduced to $1415 because we handled the electrical separately plus we had a $100 Angie's List coupon. Everyone was pleasant and professional from office staff to testers to installers.

"First, there was the estimate. I was given a lot of information that has appeared to be accurate as I got other estimates. Then the system was installed, which took about 6 hours. They worked both in the basement and on the side of the house. The system is a little noisier that I'd hoped, but I don't believe I could've gotten anything quieter. They came and picked up their monitoring equipment about 4 business days later. It was all handled very professionally.

"We measured our radon levels last year & found them to be at 25 (need to be below 5). As we are in the process of finishing our basement got an estimate from Cascade based on Angies List reviews. Was very impressed with the whole process, from the plan and location of our system by

and to all the guys that did the install. The whole process was explained in detail so even I could understand. The pipe was nicely located between the studs in our newly framed wall & once covered with drywall we won't even see it & the pipe on the outside is not very noticeable. Our radon reading after system was installed was 0.7, well below the recommended levels (they leave an electronic radon reading device for a few days to measure levels). As we are remodeling contractors we will definitely recommend Cascade to our customers & anyone needing mitigation."

"Quote was much lower than other companies.
Portland Radon Mitigation Experts Provider Name Locked
was the one who suggested they could run the pipe through my attic, putting the fan in the attic as opposed to outside. They said there would be no additional charge for that. When I brought this up to other companies I was told it would cost more (in addition to their initial cost being even higher than Cascade). Install went very smoothly and I appreciated their attention to detail in terms of making it as less intrusive as possible. I do find that the fan is

than what I thought it would be. I have plenty of insulation in the attic and I can still hear the fan when I'm in the room right below it. It's not horribly loud though and it's not something I really notice too often. I also thought it was strange that the kit they gave me to test the radon level a few weeks after they had gone had the results mailed to Cascade as opposed to myself. The salesperson made a big deal about how they give me a test to double check for myself that the install worked, but clearly it's not an independent test if the results are sent to Cascade instead of myself (Cascade forwarded the results to me). My favorite thing about them though, and why I'm writing this review, is their attention to trying to make sure the system was not intrusive. I've since had other things installed by other companies, things like a furnace, water heater, and I'm amazed at how focused other companies were on making the work as easy for themselves as possible, thereby sacrificing aesthetics. Cascade was not like that at all! While it's not like the radon mitigation system is attractive, Cascade tried to hide the pipe as much as possible, and run it through areas that wouldn't be in our way. It's taken me over a year to realize how rare that is in a company to take the time to do that!

"Overall, I thought everything went very well. There were a couple of glitches but nothing major and they were taken care of in an expedient manner. When the installer finished his work and was going to set up the radon monitor in our basement to ensure that the levels had gone down, the monitor was not working and he indicated he would have to get another one to us. I was going out of town the next day but he called and said they still did not have a monitor available and would try again on Monday (this was Friday). I returned on Monday and we had not received a call still so I e-mailed again and

, the owner, actually came by himself after work and delivered a monitor and answered a lot of questions. They worked around our schedules to accommodate our needs and I very much appreciated that. The only other "problem" was that there was a mix-up with another client with the same first name and there were some questions as to whether payment had been made, etc. Once we realized what was happening, it was all resolved quickly.

"I had tested my radon levels a year ago and got readings of 7.6-8.4 pC/l. I knew I needed to do something about it, but the EPA's documentation on it sounded pretty intense. The EPA says two wells need to be dug and that the average cost of remediation is $800. Well, that second part is probably an average between people who need remediation and those who don't.

I think it was less than a week from the time that I called

until they were all done. The office folks had an estimator come out. He was punctual, professional, and knowledgeable about radon and geology. He found the prime spot to install the system and also informed me that usually around Portland they don't need to dig two wells since the ground is so porous.

He told me about the small amount of whooshing noise the system would make. That sounded fine.

His plan was to install the system in the middle of one of the sides of my basement, near the water heater.

The installer arrived a few days later, on time, and got to work. Even though I was working in the room above the installation, it was quiet and unobtrusive.

When he was done, the system transmitted a lot of low-frequency vibration through the wall. He suggested I see how it sounded the next day, since he would be by to collect the radon meter.

Over the next day I watched the radon level drop to 0.3pC/l so I was very pleased with the performance of the system.

The problem with the noise is that the fan was attached directly to the middle of an outside wall of a bedroom. Now no one is using that bedroom currently but I would not subject anyone to that low vibration in the spare bedroom. The installer made some changes that helped reduce the vibration a little, but now a month later it's still pretty loud and I would be unable to sleep in that room.

He said there wasn't really much they could do besides not put the fan on the wall of a bedroom, but they were already done. I wish the estimator had considered that! I realize that to locate it elsewhere would likely have taken more money and unsightly PVC tubing running in weird places. He said that for more money they could bury a fence post in concrete and attach the fan to that.

I am not complaining about this. If I can't stand the noise any more I will call them and ask/pay them to take further actions to resolve it. I just want to warn people to think about where they are locating the fan, because that issue never came up until they were done installing it. The estimator made no mention of the fan making the low vibrations, just the sound of the air flowing through the tube, which is minimal.

Overall I am happy with the cost and effectiveness of their installation. I am happy I can use my basement without worrying about

"We got a couple of estimates. One of the reasons we chose them was because they said that the national standard for radon is four per million and their process brings the home down below two, which is the international standard. We have a small house. Radon is an interesting thing. They say that it is the second leading cause of
Portland Radon Mitigation Experts Provider Name Locked
cancer in the United States. It is a naturally occurring gas that comes out of granite so it depends on what is under the house. The problem is that houses, especially ones with basements, reduce the pressure over the granite and allows it to come up into the house. They do a process to ease the pressure to vent it outside where it belongs. Their price wasn’t any better or worse than other people. We would use them again."

"From the estimate to the completion of the work we were very happy with all the employees of
Portland Radon Mitigation Experts Provider Name Locked
and with the result they oblained. We dealt with seven employees and all were knowedgable and helpful . The work was done without a hitch and the radon measurement went down to low levels.
Since we wanted the lowest levels possible we went over, in detail, the possiblity of even further reduction of the radon. The Cascade employees were very patient and informative and gave us a very clear understanding about what they felt could be accomplished.
On the second visit they put in a different fan and only charged us for the time and labor. The radon dropped even further. Cascade advised us about setting up a test monitor, which we have done. We will follow up with Cascade once the test is ended and we get the results.
We feel confident that the Cascade mitigation work has gotten the radon levels in our house as low as they can go.

"Excellent. It has been working perfectly fine. Unfortunately, our Radon level was above 4. Since the system was installed, the level has been under 2. The company did exactly as they explained. No surprises on the price. I would highly recommend testing for radon, and if you have a problem, call these guys!!"

"Within a day or two of calling
Portland Radon Mitigation Experts Provider Name Locked
they had their representative meeting at a time convenient with us. He was prompt and courteous and provided us with an estimate of costs associated with radon reduction. Working around our time availability
Portland Radon Mitigation Experts Provider Name Locked
immediately scheduled a time for installation. The installer was thorough in his explanation of what he was going to do, where the unit would be installed and the approximate time it would take to do so. Both he and the electrician carefully cleaned up after the work and were very willing to explain what they did and the purpose of unit installed. The

installer also left a radon test kit and suggested that we retest the area in a year.
