They came out to my house because I was having ants inside my house. They had actually treated my house previously and I was pleased with the interaction. The technician arrived very punctually and we discussed the situation. He actually recommended that we only treat outside (a less expensive treatment), since Terro baits seemed to have abated the problem inside the house. He arranged to come back and treat outside when there wasn't rain. He came and treated on the day that he said he would. The thing I am most pleased with with this company is that they are very easy to get in touch with and communicate with.

He came over immediately after he was called.
Upon arrival, he was friendly, and handed my dad a business card;
from there, we discussed our extermination needs.
Mr.

When I called, they could not offer service right away, so we scheduled for their representative to come out in a few weeks.
When the appointed day arrived, the representative arrived on time, and immediately identified the insect causing the problem with our deck. He offered to apply the insecticide right away, and we accepted. Within an hour, the whole process was done.
The representative also identified another problem with the deck, which he said was unrelated to the bees. He wasn't selling anything, just being helpful.
Given the diagnosis, I probably could have cured the problem more inexpensively, but was content to pay Alpha to get it taken care of immediately, and to get a major company to stand behind the work.

I had called to see if we could get same day service to deal with a large yellow jacket nest in a wall. The woman who answered the phone said she didn't think it could be done until tomorrow and had initially suggested I try other providers. She said she would check with the owner and call me back. I waited for a bit and then began looking for other providers as the little guys were chewing through the drywall. I was able to contact another reputable service listed here and set up same day service.
Portland Exterminators Provider Name Locked
called me back 30 min later and said they could be here in 10 min. I apologized and said we had already gotten someone. The man who had called said he hoped the other service provider "knows half as much as I do". It seemed very rude to me and very unprofessional. I was disturbed by the lack of respect. While I did not choose this service this time, I would also not be inclined to used them in the future.

Initially they came out and set traps & tried to find all points of entry. They came back every 3 or 4 days to check traps & remove mice that were caught in traps. This inspections went on for a number of weeks with them discovering points of entry based on trap locations. Each time, points of entry were sealed and traps were set based on vectoring in on possible entry locations. They are now coming once a week and appear to be on track to have sealed all points of entry. They have been very thorough & persistent. Although I had previously set out traps & caught mice, I couldn't have come up with their process of finding points on entry and being so methodical in sealing entry points. The same to men have come out each time and they have been very professional, diligent & friendly.

We were horrified to notice rat droppings in our attic last February. We contacted Halt and they made their first visit then. We were told that rodent control requires regular service visits and that we would need a one year contract. I signed the contract and the technician left bait in the attic and baited two traps on the exterior of our house. I had consulted with Multnomah County Vector Control and was told that it was important to identify the point(s) of entry and to make sure that they are sealed after the first baiting. We mentioned this to the (very nice) technician on his second visit. He told us that there was no way to determine the point of entry but recommended that we consider a plan that involved excavating the earth under our porch and installing an anti tunneling material that is currently being used in NYC. He told us that he had no experience with this, but he would connect with someone at the office and get back to us within a week. We never heard from him again. We researched the problem on our own and realized that it was excessive to go to such an extreme measure so soon. We phoned the office and attempted to discuss the problem with their receptionist of 17 years,

. We made it clear that we liked the technician, and that we found him to be very polite, but we were concerned that he would suggest such a "solution" so soon in the process. She said that we were the first customers in 17 years to complain about this technician and that they would never terminate a contract due to personality differences. We explained that we simply wanted our problem resolved and that we had found this particular technician to be very polite and did not object to him as a person. Over and over we explained that we only wanted our problem resolved and that we absolutely had no intention of making this a problem over personalities. Finally after much discussion and subjecting us to a story about her marital difficulties, she agreed to send a technician she referred to as the "Rat Nazi". This second technician was also very nice. He throughly inspected our premises, put fresh bait in the traps, and sprayed under the porch. He was 100% effective and we were very pleased. I just got off the phone after attempting to schedule a follow up appointment that is suggested in our service agreement. I requested that she send the second technician again. She became impatient and rudely explained to me that he was not assigned to our neighborhood and that she refused to "pull him out of his area" simply because we did not like our first technician. Once again I was put in the ridiculous position of praising the pleasant demeanor of the technician who was unable to help us. I said that we'd prefer to work with the technician who had felt comfortable treating our premises. She has continued to refuse to send this technician, but has agreed to send a third technician. She also shared that while she was on the phone with me, going around and around about how unfair we were to malign the personality of the first technician, she had a total of four calls on hold. I have never encountered someone so blithely casual about providing such sub par customer service. There are many other pest control companies in the Portland area. Send your business to one of them.

The technician checked the attic, where I have had squirrels before and heard them in the middle of the night. He couldn't find an entry. He then checked the side of the house where I have seen squirrels entering our gutters and couldn't find an entry. He found three spots that were potential entries but wouldn't get on a ladder high enough to check them. He offered to get a quote written to repair those spots by their construction group. I never received the offer. Not a very effective entry investigation.
The trap was re-baited and set two or three times. No squirrels were ever caught. Nearly a month passed and no one checked the trap so I called because I saw the trap had shut and a squirrel was chewing my roof, around the trap, to get at the peanut butter inside. Not an effective squirrel trapping.
I talked to the office staff who were understanding enough. Since they hadn't caught anything and the squirrels were now chewing on my house due to the baited trap, I aired my grievances with a supervisor and they gave me no options other than, "they can reset the trap." I asked them to take the trap down and didn't see any issues for another month.
I got a general contractor in to look at the gutters because I've been hearing scurrying in the attic. Sure enough, there is clear squirrel entry in the gutters, where the pest guy didn't even look. Also, he checked the potential entries that the pest guy found and they were not entries at all.
I called this company back to see if they will bring a trap back out to actually do this job. The office person informs me that she will have to charge me, if they will even take the job. Apparently they aren't good at squirrel control so they are going to stop doing it. I mention that I was interested in having them finish the job and requested a reduced rate since they didn't catch anything the first time. She understood and reasonably told me she would ask a manager. The manager called back and said they wouldn't take the job.
In summary: I paid ahead for investigation and trapping of two animals. I got a poor investigation and no animals trapped. And now they won't even come out to finish the job. $195 down the toilet.
