Gap teeth: worth the cost to fix?

Gap teeth are a common cosmetic problem that can be fixed using a number of dental methods. The cost, effectiveness and long-term viability of these treatments varies significantly. Are they worth the cost?

Dental implants: a complete smile in 8 steps or less

Depending on the condition of your jaw, teeth and gums, a dental implant procedure can take as little as a few weeks or as long as nine months as your dentist, oral surgeon and prosthodontist restore your smile.

Should you get a dental implant instead of a bridge?

As more people choose dental implants instead of traditional crowns and bridges, you'll want to examine the costs, time and the health of your jawbone and tissue before opting for this procedure.

"I have been seeing him for over 25 years now. I really like him. He really does great work. He really takes the time to describe what the issue is. He always gives you options on what could be done. He never tries to push anything on you."

"He treats adults as well, but he does children’s dentistry. I can just see that he would be so good with children. He is a dentist and also a maxillofacial surgeon. He not only works with children, but he supervises many of the residents. I am in the process of writing a letter to patient relations telling them that he has the best clinic that I have been to. I am very pleased to find somebody like him. I would absolutely visit him again in the future."

"I will preface the following comments noting this is the same dentist and staff that removed my

teeth two years earlier without issue. At that time he was friendly and I had minimal discomfort post-surgery. Generally, I would say Dr. Auzins is a kind dentist who is warm and friendly to his patients providing they are sedated during the procedure. He was friendly and available when I needed him to pack my dry socket after having my

teeth removed.

The difference between then and now is I was put under sedation when I had my
Portland Oral Surgeons Provider Name Locked
teeth removed. In this most recent procedure I chose not to be sedated, but to use Nitrous Oxide (N2O) instead. I found this last experience to be absolutely devastating. Because of negative past experiences, I am an anxious patient to begin with, so my primary need from a dentist is to be heard. If I say I can feel that, or I cannot feel the Nitrous, I need the dentist to stop what he/she is doing and listen to what I have to say. Dr. Auzins did not listen to me when I told him, before he gave me the initial shot, that I could not feel the nitrous. Instead of investigating the issue he proceeded. This triggered me and put me in distress, tears were flowing and I was panicking. I told him again after the shot that I could not feel the nitrous. He told me when people are in distress nitrous does not always work, he did not bother to check his equipment. He proceeded to extract my molar and do the bone graft, all the while I am crying. Strangely, towards the end of the extraction, the nitrous kicked in for about three minutes and I started to feel a calm and peace throughout my body. When the procedure was over I asked him why he adjusted the nitrous at the end and he said he never touched it and proceeded to tell me about the brain and how it doesn't always react the way we would expect from sedation and medication.

That may be true, but I am a seasoned patient who has had extensive dental work done; two adult molars extracted from different dentists, 7 root canals, multiple crowns, a bridge and numerous fillings over the last 30 years. I have had Nitrous Oxide for at least 70% of those procedures, all of which I am sure I was "distressed" and each time felt the Nitrous. I know my body and what I can expect from it. The fact that the N2O kicked in through part of the procedure while I was still extremely distressed and that I have never had problems in the past with N2O, leads me to believe that Dr. Auzins’ equipment was faulty. After I went home no one followed up to see if I was ok, no one from Dr. Auzins' office called to check in. I didn’t yell at anyone, I wasn’t scary. I was sad and traumatized and no one cared to treat me like a human being. Even if it was my brain impeding the N2O, that should not have stopped the Dr. from listening to me and investigating my concerns and following up to see if I was okay. I would not recommend Dr. Auzins’ office because of their inability to treat non-catatonic, unsedated patients like human beings.

"I have been going to
Portland Oral Surgeons Provider Name Locked
and Dr. Daby for the past four years, and have always had a wonderful experience. The staff are very friendly, and put you at ease during your visit. I have issues with my jaw, and they go out of their way to make sure I am comfortable. Dr. Daby is very professional and knowledgeable. I trust that he is suggesting a treatment plan that is the best for my dental health, and not his pocketbook. I have had such a good experience that my husband and 3 year old son now go to Dr. Daby as well. He is so good with my son, and has made going to the Dentist a fun experience for him."

"I have extreme anxiety with respect to dentists. Dr.
Portland Oral Surgeons Provider Name Locked
was, in a word, AMAZING. my first appointment was just to evaluate to determine what would need to be done... And he stopped the appointment halfway through because I was obviously getting more and more panicky. He talked me down, then we moved to talk in a private room to plan the services I needed. It helped a ton to make the plans while NOT in the evil chair. He worked with me, helped come up with a pllan that could take care of what I needed in the best possible way. They have the best technology, the best methods for making the appointments as low-anxiety as possible, and the staff are wonderful, taking care of all the insurance issues and really attentive. I will never go anywhere else."

"I really recommend the dentists at
Portland Oral Surgeons Provider Name Locked
. They are just really very thorough. They are efficient. The dentists have good chair side manners. They have two dentists, Dr.
Portland Oral Surgeons Provider Name Locked
and Dr.
Portland Oral Surgeons Provider Name Locked
and they are both excellent. I have been able to get in when I need to get in. They are really personable. They take a lot of interest in their patients. They will find a way to get the patients in when needed. It wouldn?t surprise me if they come to me, when I need something in the future. It is that kind of a clinic. Everybody at the clinic is just personable and efficient. They have state of the art technology. The office environment is nice; it?s comfortable. The office is clean. The staff is great. They are always on top of things. If one needs to know how much ones portion is other than insurance, they call right then and there and take care of it. They really reach out to their patients and help them with all the information possible. I?m never in the dark about anything with
Portland Oral Surgeons Provider Name Locked
. I and my boyfriend would continue using their services in the future.

"I was referred to Dr.
Portland Oral Surgeons Provider Name Locked
by a root canal specialist. I had gone to the root canal specialist to see about getting an old root canal redone. He told me that the old root canal was not the problem -- the tooth was cracked and needed to be removed. I made an appointment to see Dr.
Portland Oral Surgeons Provider Name Locked
and was able to get in within just a few days. They sent me all of the forms to fill out ahead of time. Upon arriving at the office, I had a very short wait and they took me in right on time. The extraction was extremely fast and totally painless. They set me up with pain medication (only took one and it was probably not needed) and an oral wash to disinfect the site for the next week. I saw Dr.
Portland Oral Surgeons Provider Name Locked
again in a week for a follow-up visit. Everything was good and I have not had any problems. His staff is extremely professional while still being friendly (helping to take your mind off the procedure). I am very happy with the treatment I received and will definitely use Dr.
Portland Oral Surgeons Provider Name Locked
again the future should I have a need.

"His staff are friendly and professional and the office environment, at least in the a.m., is calm and subdued, which I enjoyed since I often have a lot of anxiety at the dentist office and have had extensive work done over the years. He was very professional. Dr.
Portland Oral Surgeons Provider Name Locked
is not a super chatty dentist, but he is warm and kind and gets right to the business at hand. He was good about letting me know what he was doing as he went along and most important, he was very good at giving shots. I hardly felt them!"
