"First of all, I did most of my shopping on the
web site, which is excellent and offers most of the basic information a customer needs. I visited showrooms several" times before I made my purchase (of course, names/specs of
were changed in the interim, which meant I had to make some mental adjustments); reps were helpful, and did not get pushy at all. Selection is somewhat limited, but pretty much covers most needs and makes decision-making lots easier.
's return policies are great, too, although I didn't need to use them. The mattress (
) was great from day one. I do advise turning the mattress according to Parkland's recommendations.

"We recently purchased two mattresses and two movable bases (motorized frames that raise and lower the bed itself – yep, we’re old folks!) from SleepCountry. It was certainly" a stressful experience although the final product seems acceptable. Learn from us, please. There are serious cooperate communication problems in this company and unless you can asseryt yourself when the occasion arise I’m guessing you may be unhappy. Here’s our experience: The employees of the store were pleasant but so many mistakes were made during sales, purchase, and delivery that we feel the need to caution future buyers. To start with, there was a serious error made when they first quoted the total purchase price. We were pleased with that estimate but then, when it was time to finalize the purchase, the salesperson noted he had forgotten to include a movable base. This is a major expense so the final price went up quite a bit. (We’ve been around long enough that we
’t think this was anything but an honest mistake.) Then came delivery. Because of where we live we clearly told the sales people (including a store manager) that a ‘short truck’ was needed. They noted this on the delivery order but when the truck showed up they could not negotiate the driveway and the employees left without delivery. When we called to ask SleepCountry how they were going to deliver the bed they said they would try to get it on the next day’s schedule. I asked them when that might be and they said “we won’t know for another 12 hours.” I was going to have to take another day off to accommodate their screw-up and their scheduling system didn’t care. We then called and threatened to cancel the entire order and, suddenly, they were able to make a window appear that same evening. Lastly, the delivery guys did a great job moving heavy and awkward material up and down stairs. They did fine setting it all up but then… …we noticed that the movable bases that had been delivered was not the same kind as the units shown to us at the store. One was a Prodigy (more expensive and quieter) and the other was an S-Cape. The drivers had left by then so we called the store again. The salespeople said “yes, we know that they are different units. The one we showed you (quieter and more expensive) had been discontinued”. Wait? Discontinued from two days ago? No, “we were told, “it was only a floor model and not supposed to be sold.” Although this type of sales behavior is very close to bait-and-switch we still believe that the base we got (although not the one we were shown) was purchased at a fair price. Summary? Be very clear that the folks at SleepCountry will stand behind their product from initial sales to delivery to set up. Be very aware that communication between sales, delivery, and district managers is sometimes poor. Be sure to look at other companies products and do you research so you can assert yourself from a position of knowledge. Be sure to get numbers of corporate offices and district managers to resolve issues.

"We purchased a memory foam mattress with a foundation at a great price, priced well below Tempurpedic bare bones model. It was built to order and came in one week. The delivery" guys brought two trucks, one to haul away the old set and one with the new ones. they placed the mattress on our bed, straightened everything up, were very courteous. Great experience. Good product. Great price.

Getting a great sleep means having the right mattress, and that means knowing what types are out there, how they support you, and taking the time to test before you rest. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member Damaris H. of Ft. Worth, Texas)

Mattresses

Getting a good night's rest is critical for your general health and well being, which means what you're sleeping on makes a huge difference to how you feel in the morning. There are a wide variety of mattresses available, depending on your preference and needs, and since a good mattress can last a decade, you'll want to do your research before you buy any new bedding.

I used
Portland Mattress Discounters Provider Name Locked
& Appliance for the purchase of a mattress about 4 years ago and I spent about $400.00. I had issues with the mattress and they didn't take any responsibility.
Portland Mattress Discounters Provider Name Locked
& Appliance was not interested in my problem and they were indifferent when it came to my issue. I must say overall I give this company an F rating and I will not use them again.

We were attracted to this newly established company from an article in the Oregonian telling the story of the owner and how he came about starting the company. Being Portlanders all our lives, we were really attracted to the fact that they use organic products in their mattresses and that they deliver on bicycle. The first mattress we really liked was a pillow top, very comfortable at first. When they got it to us, we slept on it for a few nights and our backs were in some pain the following mornings (I think pillow top vs. firm is a personal preference) We then went back to the store with our receipt thinking we could trade it out no problem, and if we opted for a cheaper mattress, they would credit our card back. One of the employees (not the owner) pointed out that before returning, you had to sleep on it for an entire 3 weeks, and if you returned your mattress for a cheaper mattress, they would not be giving us a refund. I was not pleased, to say the least. The owner then proceeded to come out and said "its not a problem, whatever you need, you name it. Let's find a mattress that's right for you. We want you to be comfortable. We will not require you to sleep on
Portland Mattress Discounters Provider Name Locked
for the full 3 weeks if you don't think you can. We can also give you a refund if necessary." This was a bit reassuring considering how we were treated by the first employee. When they eventually came to our house to swap it out, they insisted on setting

up for us. The owner was very appreciative of our business. They even gave us higher end box springs for the misunderstanding. I would go back and get another mattress in the future from

. My only advice to this store: Choose your employees a little more carefully. Customers should not be treated that way.

In the past, I've likened shopping for mattresses to shopping for cars, being at the mercy of salesmen who can't close a deal without trotting back & forth to a backroom boss. At this store-- relatively small with the owner working the floor-- everything seemed straightforward, the choices relatively easy. For very little charge, he was also happy to deliver

, although it turned out to be more convenient for us to pick it up later ourselves.

The best part of this story is that I got this mattress eight years ago and it is still fantastic. It does not need to be turned over or rotated, it breathes, it is comfortable, and it still doesn't have body impressions. I just took a picture of it so you can see how well it holds up. I probably will be able to take another picture in another eight years and see the same thing. Based on past experience, I was a little concerned about the amount we spent. Traditional mattresses have seemed great when purchased and a couple of years later they are ready to be replaced-dented and uncomfortable. This mattress looks and feels like new after eight years. I was in the
Portland Mattress Discounters Provider Name Locked
for a new mattress and happened to drive by the

shop. The store is low key, small and unpretentious. The quality and comfort of the product is superb.

I thought this store had the best range of mattresses. We tried
Portland Mattress Discounters Provider Name Locked

The sales rep was personable and helpful. He did not try to sell me the most expensive units. He helped me figure out the best buy for the most comfort. He arranged delivery quickly and efficiently. The units were delivered on time and in excellent shape. I did look at other places after buying these units, and felt the prices were a little higher at
Portland Mattress Discounters Provider Name Locked
, however the service was so good it's a toss-up.
