Hardscaping Reviews in Portland

I am really sad about having to write this review because I sincerely like
the owner. I have previously written a glowing review of the company when I had the patio put in a few summers ago. I had the new work done last summer -( I'm not sure of the exact date or recall the exact price) but could find the contract if necessary. Prior to this incident it had been my intention to hire them for another project.
I noticed after the workers left last summer that there were gaps (holes) in the filler between the pavers on both the walkways and the patio. The paving work was great - I would have given a A on quality had they not left so many gaps between the pavers.
I called the office and
said they would fix it but they were swamped and could they do it in the fall. I said that was fine. I called again in the fall and was told they would have to wait for a sunny day to do the work. I understood the reason for this and said fine. I called again sometime in the winter and again was told about the sunny day requirement. We had a number of sunny days but I continued to be patient about getting on the schedule because I trusted
. In May I called and talked to
, his assistant. I said I had been quite patient and really needed to get on the schedule as weeds were growing out of many of the gaps - she said she would pass the message to
. I have called several more times since then about 2 weeks apart politely asking to get on the schedule -Each time
said I had been patient and also very nice about my requests and she would make sure
got the message. Last week when I still did not get a response, I called and told
if I didn't hear back from them about a time to have the work scheduled I would need to file a complaint since it appeared I was being ignored.
told me
had a lot going on and I was welcome to do that. She told me
was in a meeting and unavailable but she would pass along the message. I went outside to do something and when I came back in found
had called back right away but left no message. I called the office immediately and was told the again message would be passed along. It's been a week now and I have not heard back from
. I do not like being ignored as a customer. Even if
does have other things going on, a
courtesy call to explain things would have helped. I have patiently waited about a year now for the work to be finished. I am sorry it has come to this as I think the "fix" would only take a couple of hours at most. I would like
to call me and schedule the work to be completed before the end of August. If he can not do that I will get bids from other companies to complete the work and ask that
refund enough money to cover the costs of hiring another company to complete the work. I also discovered that
Hardware had posted my first review from Angie's list without my permission using my full name on their own website. I would like them to remove my review from their website and any literature they may have put it on. I would like to settle this quickly and quietly. Thanks Angie's List for assisting me in trying to get this resolved.
P.S. I do have a picture showing the weeds growing through the pavers but did not see a place to post that.

We hired
to do a big job made necessary by flooding in our crawlspace. We needed grading done and drains installed to get water away from the house.
Things started out really well, and
seemed to really know what he was doing. I love his knowledge of native plants (though I was promised a list of what he put in and where, and have still not received this). For the most part he did a wonderful job transforming our yard into a more functional and beautiful space, though we had struggles with a paver patio, which to his credit, he did rebuild, albeit incorrectly/incompletely.
The real problems were in the follow through.
became more and more difficult to get a hold of as problems arose towards the end of the installation. At one point, the email I had been using to correspond with him suddenly and unexpectedly started to deposit messages in his junk folder, and it was only after a semi-threatening letter from my wife that he finally popped a reply. He made a point during the contracting phase to say that he will always stand behind his work even though it is only technically guaranteed for 1 year. This may be true, if you can get a hold of him after he has decided that he is done with his work.
On a separate but related note, We also generated referrals for him with our neighbors, who ended up hiring him to do a large job in their back yard. They reported some of the same problems with communication and follow through, and that job was ultimately not completed. They were smarter than I was and did not pay him until the job was done. Very upsetting as this made me look bad since it was my recommendation that lead them to hire
Id say that he made it about 70-75% of the way to "complete." Unfortunately, I payed him 100%. I will be rebuilding our paver patio next summer, or paying someone else as the grade is still wrong and water ends up pooling by the house (which is the entire reason we hired him in the first place).
Im really disappointed with how things turned out mostly because I really wanted to like
, but Im not sure I could trust him to hire him again.

We talked a lot before he started about what materials would be used and what would be done. He completed the project just as described and in a professional manner. I trust his judgement but he was very good about communicating any issues that came up or any small changes that need to be made from our initial discussion. (such as

slope angle change or problems encountered when uncovering my homes old siding) He structures his bill based on time and materials which I think is a very fair way to do it and he was very reasonably priced but used top quality materials which I asked for. I would definitely trust him on my next house project.

and his crew did a great job. We had been struggling with a mess of a lawn for years. The yard is heavily shaded by large trees and no amount of soil amendment would help the drainage.
I got several bids.

was reasonable and I felt he understood what I was looking for. He was working with an existing rock wall that had begun to slump some. I also had irrigation that needed to be capped. The lawn area had a slight slope to it which was a bit of a challenge to figure out how to work the patio in to meet up with the existing structures. The yard has very difficult access so this was not an easy job.
We had one small miscommunication about how a planter met up with the patio but
Portland Patio Pavers Provider Name Locked
responded quickly to my concern and we arrived at a solution which I was satisfied with.
His crew was always punctual and worked very hard. The project was completed on time.

He was on vacation and called back when he got in town. We did not have a site visit becasue his schedule was booked out so far we could not wait. I have since found a design build team that fits my taste and will be my go to choice.

I'm only writing this review because I would want someone to tell me about this before I called too.
I left a message on their service over the weekend asking to set up an appointment for an estimate. The weird thing was they did return my call on my voicemail asking me to call them back with my email address so that some other person could contact me to set up an appointment.
Its just kind of a weird way to do it. Why not just give my phone number to the estimator and he can ask for my email? I did call them before writing this to confirm that's how they actually do things. Apparently its because they are so busy that they have their service providers set up the appointments. I still don't see why an extra call for email helps.
I would stay away from a company so willing to waste time and that is apparently so busy.

My husband works for this company at its branches in the Portland area. We have used their excellent products at our home, but since he works for them in sales, we are probably not the best source of ratings for you.

They were fast and striped the layers and laid the new roofing in one day. They were very hard working they stayed until the job was done. They came back he next day to put the vents in but covered them to prevent leaving to make sure there were no leakage from the rain.
All in all we have been very happy with the service and have the really nice looking roof.

We have a large Japanese Maple tree in our backyard. These trees require expert sculpting, and ours had gotten severely overgrown during a year-plus that we had been away traveling.

had done some landscape cleanup/repair through our property manager prior to our return and had done a great job, so we asked them to tackle this tree.
