Summary:
After excessive delays and persistently poor communication, we elected to choose another contractor to actually build the unit. The plans he did complete (late) gave us multiple problems with the city, delaying our project even more. We are just now breaking ground mid-
. I wish I had never engaged
, as it cost us months of delays.
Exact timeline:
Nov/
2013 - Started talking with
back in Nov/
of 2013 about helping us build an
. This is, apparently, the only work he does - i.e.
's. It was always front/center that we wanted to break ground by May 2014.
Feb 9, 2014 - I send him all our initial drawings, and ask for the design contract.
Feb 17 - He finally sends design contract to us, and we execute it with down payment.
March 11 -
send us preliminary drawings. We offer minor changes (just moving some windows).
April 1 - still no word from
on when he will complete the plans to then submit to the city.
April 6 - We finally meet and he now informs me that he's booked up and cannot start in May,
is his earliest time for breaking ground. He says that he has now booked someone else in the May/June slot. I express concern that he knew when we wanted to start then - why didn't he talk to us about this? And can we hold his
slot - sort of a "first right of refusal" - so that this doesn't get pushed back any longer? He assures us that the
spot is ours - direct quote from his email:
"You're still near the top of my list as far as priority. I think I can work around my other projects and schedule in time to make yours work, and on time."
April 21- he completes the final drawings, and says he's going to the city the next day and will submit our drawings.
April 30 - he informs me that he didn't submit the plans, and now says he needs to get engineering involved. He now also informs me that he can't break ground in
, probably won't have time until Oct! Says someone else paid a deposit and he put them in that slot. I ask - what about "first right of refusal" - and he says he doesn't like first right of refusal. And I ask him why he didn't just come to me and say, someone wants your spot - do you still want
, and if you do, you have to put down some money. He said he felt like it was my responsibility to pursue him. At this point, I tell him that I'm going to use another contractor to build the place - and to please just complete the drawings.
May 6 - we discuss by email. Still hasn't submitted the plans to his engineer.
May 28 - finally turns over completed work to my new contractor.
Bottom line - I think
was stringing us along, wanting to try and keep his schedule as full as possible. I get the desire to always have work. He probably gets lots of inquiries that never
out. But, in this situation, we made our goals very clear (breaking ground by May) and we engaged him in a design contract with plenty of lead time to meet this goal. His miscommunication, and ultimately going back on his word left us high and dry - without a contractor in May, hoping to break ground in
...........a short time frame in the busiest months of the year, to find someone to take on a major construction project. Fortunately, I was able to scramble and find someone else who is doing a fantastic job.
I was almost not going to post this overwhelmingly negative review.............except that the design/plans that he completed have given us a h*** of a time with the city. They were incomplete, missing information, designed in ways that weren't to code. And all this from someone who focuses exclusively on
's? This is a complete mystery to me. I would NOT recommend engaging
for your
project.

The home inspection for the sale of our old house turned up a spot of drywall in the bathroom between the tub and the vanity that was soft from where the shower curtain had not been pulled tight and water had leaked over the
of the tub. Fixing the drywall was a condition of the sale, we needed to move quickly and
was a referral from our realtor, so we just went with it. First, I left a voice mail stating what we needed as far as obtaining an estimate and making the repair. Two days went by and we never heard back. Only after our realtor phoned
herself and lit a fire under him did he respond. Through the entire process he continually forgot what we had talked about, started emailing me details about the wrong job, and had extremely poor communication. So a different guy shows up at the house to make the repair and install splash guards on the side of the tub. This guy spent more time in the driveway detailing his truck than he did fixing the drywall or installing the cheap plastic splash guards that he picked up from Home Depot on his way over. Now I understand that it takes time for joint compound to dry, then has to be sanded down, mudded again, etc, but we basically paid $367 for someone to detail his truck. And to make things worse, WE had to supply the piece of drywall! It's not as if this was a big repair, it was only about a 5 inch by 2 inch section of drywall that needed to be replaced.
also knew that this repair was a condition of the sale of our house and we were under a time constraint, yet both myself and our realtor's office had to
him more than once in order to get a copy of the invoice for closing. So nearly a month later after everything is said and done and the bill has been paid,
sends the same invoice this time directly to our realtor's office requesting payment. The original invoice was dated 05/27, I wrote the check for the full $367 on 06/02, the check cleared my bank on 06/05, and then on 06/18
sends the invoice to my realtor's office again demanding payment. Total lack of communication and total lack of integrity. Come to find out that the sellers of the house that we were purchasing also used
to make a repair to the shower drain that we had requested as part of our purchase.
charged them $51 for a cover-up and never actually fixed the drain. They just put a different cover over the drain to make it look like something had been done, but never fixed the issue. I went back to our realtor with the issues/complaints, she suggested we go back to
, but I personally don't want to ever have to deal with him again and certainly don't want him in my house.

the owner is a terrible contractor. He had young kids doing the work when he was supposed to do the work himself. He did not supervise work done and as a result poor workmanship and loss of time and money. We had to contact the state board of contractors and found out that he is not supposed to have employees. He had his guys tape and mud sheet rock and they did not sand it down and go over it. You were able to see the knife

from the putty knives. So they textured over it heavily to see if we would not notice. It was very noticeable. The trim was was terrible. They left stopped 2 inches from bottom of all doors, then took a 2 inch gap piece and tried to caulk it into place. None of the doors were square. They all hit and rubs leaving them unable to open and close easily. I could see all the seems in the sheet rock from panel to panel. They rough sanded the hardwood inconsistently. Then they finished it and you could see that they walked on it shortly after when it was still wet, leaving boot tracks. They broke some personal property (statures from Japan). Never Again!!! Finally I had to threaten to file complaints with the state and still had to pay him $500 in end to have us both away from contract. Thanks Angie's List!!!

They did well with the initial framing of the second story, but all downhill after that. Hard to work with, often times work didn't get done when stated it would be.

I first met with
Portland Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
at his shop to discuss design choices like cabinets, counter tops, etc. He was very warm and friendly and I liked him immediately. He walked with me around the shop to discuss various choices and to point out and explain the different options available to me, which I appreciated.
Our next meeting was at my house so he could take all the measurements he would need to create the design for updating my kitchen. He was a little late for our appointment, but he called ahead of time to tell me he was running late, so I appreciated his courtesy and I didn't mind the lateness. As he measured the kitchen, he pointed out various considerations, and he took a lot of pictures to reference while he was creating the design. He was not rushed and answered and discussed all of the questions I had.
When he was done with the design, he emailed it to me so I could examine it. He included several different views of the kitchen so I could see it from every angle. I was stunned by the beautiful design he created with what he had to work with! My kitchen is a tiny galley shape with bump-outs into the garage that I wanted to eliminate so I could use my garage as intended again. The design he came up with incorporated every item we discussed and used every inch available to make a totally modern, beautiful, and usable kitchen. He had to really get creative to accomplish what he did, and I appreciate all of his hard work.
We met a final time at his shop to fine-tune the design and then, when I wasn't ready to commit to the project, he gave me time to think about it. He followed up with me a couple weeks later, and when I told him I still wasn't ready to commit, he said to call him when I am. I really appreciate that he is not a hard-sell, pushy salesman that tries to pressure you into buying his product. He is honest, friendly, and down to earth, and when I am ready to move on with the kitchen project, I will definitely hire him to do the work.

Considering the surprise of the structural issues in the basement and time spent working on it I am pleased with the whole job. There were some small things , when they were finished, that I wanted redone and they came back with a good attitude and fixed it. I was treated well throughout the process and appreciate their professionalism, knowledge and skill.

It went exceptionally well.

was always available. He helped in the design of the kitchen/dining room combination, saw problems and offered suggestions. He was able to greatly help my expenses by procuring some recycled cabinets, all of which were used.

and Bill were the primary workers, they were both hard working talented, creative, very pleasant and listened to my suggestions and comments in a professional manner. As a woman of age, I appreciated that, unfortunately not all contacts show respect, my 18 year old granddaughter also mentioned how nice they were. I had an additional room remodeled - plastering, painting, bamboo flooring, light, curtain rod replacement. They removed the entry door as it opened into two other doors, sheetrocked that area and then framed and installed a new door which

I especially appreciated their attention to detail. This is a 1905 house, converted in the 30's to a duplex and it has many quirks with unique baseboards and door frame trim as well as a ceiling and floor which were not level. It was a pleasure to come down each morning and see all they accomplished. I highly recommend

Greenlight was recommended by friends and I will recommend to others. Their level of detail and quality was excellent. They were upfront and realistic about costs from the beginning. They were on time, very clean & tidy, and kept us up to date almost daily with emails and in-person contact. You might find cheaper options but you won't get the level of quality and integrity that you will with Greenlight.

were great to work with. They are hard workers, honest and very reliable. They removed the old tile in all three rooms...in the master bath that included walls, around tub and floor. They worked quickly and expertly. The finished product is one we can be proud of. I can't say enough about how pleased we are with our new floors, wall. We used travertine and
