"DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! I would highly discourage anyone from ever hiring this company to do work on their home. They do not have an office in Portland, as advertised, and drove up from
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
. If you do hire them, be aware that you will need an attorney to go over their contract.
Once they had our deposit, all their reassurances of quality costumer service went out the window. I became pregnant during the design phase and we decided to go ahead with the project because they assured us that they could complete the project on time and on budget. We ended up having major concerns from the beginning that started with their timeline and budget going off track almost immediately. When we tried to address our concerns we were treated with disdain. There was a complete disregard for safety on the project. Their lead carpenter, the owner's cousin, couldn't answer questions and constantly told us, "I don't know and I don't want to get in the middle," even though he was the only person on site who was available to answer questions. Their office was chaos and we got shifted numerous times from project manager to project manager to owner and back again.
In November while we were on vacation they started to demo our bathroom. This was explicitly against our instruction to not begin demo there until we were home and could have mold remediation available because we suspected that it would be necessary. We arrived home from vacation on a Friday night to find our bathroom demo started and the door open along with a major opening in the wall where there was black mold behind the old shower walls. Nothing had been done to secure the area. We were told by a mold remediation company that the damage had been done that they only thing left to do was to fog the new and old framing with a mold inhibitor.

subcontracted the re-roofing December and reassured us that the roof would be tarped when the shingles were off. One morning I came upstairs to find water literally pouring into our living room onto live electrical outlets and junction boxes because they hadn't bothered to tarp the bare roof. When I called the office and tried to address it, the lead carpenter dismissed my concerns.
When we tried to address the budget and timeline issues in early January (it was supposed to be done by late January 2013 and was nowhere near completion - demo was still being done), the owner SCREAMED at me on the phone that it was all my fault. This would not be the last time he screamed at me... We finally fired the company at the end of February. They had only completed the demo and framing and windows and rough in electrical at this point and the exterior was still not complete. They had reached our maximum budget with insulation, finish electrical and plumbing, drywall, paint, flooring, bath and kitchen, paint and gutters UNFINISHED. We ended up using our contingency money to finish the work ourselves and hire an ATTORNEY, all while having a new baby. We found out the the $5,000.00 we had paid them to cover the electrical work was not paid to their subcontractor nearly two month after we had paid the bill. We ended up having to rehire someone to finish the electrical work when the previous contractor refused to finish it because he had not been paid.
At one point their project leader stopped by the house in mid February 2013 to discuss an amicable end to our business with the company. The owner accompanied him, despite our request to not have him in our home. With the project leader and my husband there, the owner proceeded to yell and scream at me while I was 7 months pregnant and started to have premature contractions. My husband and I begged him to leave and the project manager had to forcibly remove him from our home.
At the time of our firing them in late February 2013, we had paid

for all of their time and materials as well as the $4,000 estimated design cost. At this point they charged us with another $17,000 for the design and "engineering" work that they screwed around for six month on trying to come up with a design to meet our budget. They do not employ an engineer and subsequent contractors as well as our attorney estimated the actual cost of the design work at $1,200.
For this disparity in questionable charges

threatened us with a

Our experience was absolutely horrible and I would like to save anyone else the time, money and

frustration of working with a company that makes huge promises but does not deliver.

"if we were to list all the details of how bad this went we would need a few pages so we will just provide some of the horrible highlights of our experience.
The remodel was suppose to be only $35,000.00 and ended up costing us over $60,000.00. these guys kept coming back to us and asking for more and more money in order to complete this job. They would take our money and not provide us receipts. They had no contract agreement for us to sign and the overall quality & craftsmanship of work was not good either.
After going $30,000.00 over our budget (and we did not change anything from our initial walk through) it was like pulling teeth to try to get them to come back out to fix the negligence they left behind. (there was dirty hand prints prints left on our freshly painted walls throughout the house, there was unfinished dry wall work, lighting and plumbing fixtures that were not hooked up properly, they broke our glass cook top and never paid us for a new one (we had to pay for a new one which costs us over $900.00) they did touch up work to color match our kitchen cabinets after they originally painted them and it was completely wrong and they would not come back to fix this either (we had to hire another painter to come take care of the kitchen cabinets which again cost us an additional $900.00). The overall paint work throughout the house was not to quality either- there were multiple spots where there was not enough paint on the wall and it was bleeding or flashing through and they would not come back to fix this either.
Our original agreement was that they would also provide a new roof on the house outta the budget but they ended up backing out of the agreement and so we ended up having to hire a roofer ourselves- which resulted in an additional costs to us.
THIS WAS AN ABSOLUTE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE, We requested that
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
refund us money after we realized there was damage that we had to pick up the tab on and he refused.
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
was very personal and punctual until he got our money then once he did he was a completely different person. NONE OF THE ITEMS THAT NEEDED CORRECTED WERE EVER TAKEN CARE OF BY THESE GUYS- ALL THE ISSUES FOUND WE HAD TO HIRE ANOTHER CONTRACTOR TO COME OUT AND FIX.
WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT USE THESE GUYS FOR ANYTHING. They will lie to you about what they will do, ask you for money they are not entitled to and threaten to
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
your house IF YOU don't PAY and this will leave you to have to fight them to get their
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
removed and having to hire an attorney to do so.
WE RECOMMEND YOU TO HIRE SOMEONE ELSE AND DO NOT LOOK FOR THESE GUYS TO DO WORK ON YOUR PLACE-OUR EXPERIENCE WAS FULL OF HEADACHES, RESISTANCE, AND A VERY FRUSTRATING AND PAINSTAKING PROCESS. THESE GUYS ARE NOT GOOD GUYS. STAY STAY AWAY.

's crew at MUD has been fantastic to work with.
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
(Project Manager),
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
, and
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
are all extremely personable and have made the process of living through a total renovation as painless as possible. They are very conscientious and are sure to thoroughly clean up the work area at the end of each day, making sure to leave our home as safe as possible for our family. They have been very accommodating of our two children (1 and 4 years old) making sure they warn us in advance if the day's work will be particularly loud and trying to work around nap times as they are able.

This project is a pretty sizable undertaking and they have been able to work well with our architect and structural engineer to ensure it is being done to their exact specifications. Everyone at MUD has been very approachable if we have any questions and great at sharing their opinions if we feel like we need some extra input on some details of the project.

We cannot emphasize enough how pleased we have been with this experience thus far. We are very excited to see how the project turns out when it's complete!

"We began our remodel planning process in June 2013 with no prior first-hand knowledge of what a remodel involves. I can’t believe we were lucky enough to have
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
be one of the first general contractors we’ve ever met with.
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
provided valuable insight and education on what a remodel involves and his approach.
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
provided consultation and a first estimate for our extensive (~$70K) kitchen remodel project.
One day we happened to run into
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
while at a cabinet showroom. All of the employees of the place were busy at the time, so
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
gave us a tour of the cabinet brand pointing out everything we could want to know based on our wants for a new kitchen.
My impression of
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
Construction is very good.
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
is very detail-oriented and insists on quality from himself and his sub-contractors. Although we have had no work performed as of this time, I would not hesitate to recommend him to friends searching for general contractors.

"The process was long, mostly because of working with the city building codes and trying to make our project achieve our goals of aesthetics and usability. We discovered that due to our homes footprint on the property, we had some severe limits to work under. An existing carport was not permitted & had to be removed, requiring a change in rain gutters. It was really important to us that the stair blend into the existing home & be very durable and safe. The existing balcony had slate tile, steel rails and some wood siding, the backyard had exposed aggregate concrete.
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
was able to design a beautiful staircase that continued the steel railing down into a landing of exposed aggregate concrete. The stair treads are stone that blend with the slate, but are more durable, and the whole thing is nestled down into the landscaping. They also removed pavers and re-located stone to change the backyard landscaping into a more usable space. We added a lighting to make the space usable in the evenings, and sprinklers and lawn to the backyard. Between tile, landscape, steel, electrical, and rain gutters, there were many sub-contractors on this project.
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
managed them all wonderfully, we had no problem with anyone on the work-site at all. There was a tremendous amount of custom design work to accomplish our goals, but the end result is awesome and exactly what we wanted.

did a great Job they work fast and was very good about taking out the old roofing materials. We are very impressed with the work and the total job they did. I would recomend them to everyone."

"In the course of their work their work crew man handled our toolshed and partially collapsed it. They never told us what happened or even left us a note. When we found out what happened we talked to the site supervisor and he said they moved it "because it was in the way" but refused to accept responsibility for the damage. So I've been waiting for them or our association to look at the damage before I move the shed. I & E is now threatening to charge a delay to the project because they can't paint our house because the broken shed is in their way. The shed is still there because they refuse to come look and accept responsibility for any damage. Most likely it is ok, but I've been told not to move it without them there to witness any damage. So what kind of contractor is this that causes damage to homeowner property, refuses to accept responsibilty and now wants to charge a penalty for not being able to continue/finish the work?STAY AWAY FROM I & E Construction.Another association board we belong to looked at I & E and wheil they low balled the bid, we decided not to go forward with them. Boy am I glad we didn't use them on that project."

"I am a structural engineer and see a lot of contractors everyday. I chose
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
because he is one of the nicest people I have ever met, very soft spoken and family oriented. We were having
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
redo our bathroom because of mold and figured that while he was here he may as well replace a piece of sheetrock that the paint was flaking off of. He discovered termites and we told him to see how far the damage went so he could give us an accurate bid. It turned out that the termite damage extended across the entire front wall of the house, along the side wall for a short ways, along the floor sheathing and down an interior wall.
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
spoke to the termite company on our behalf (we had a 5 year contract with Alpha Ecological for termites), worked with their insurance company to come to a monetary agreement so we would have to pay for as little as possible out of pocket. I asked other construction companies for bids to satisfy the insurance company's 3 competitive bids requirement and
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
's was the lowest. I trust
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
enough to give him a key to the house and let him come and go as his schedule allows. Throughout the project
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
would keep me informed as to what he was going to do or had done that day and was very patient with any changes we wanted to make. We added a bay window and about half of the way through the project we also added a fireplace, both of which are gorgeous. Once the sheetrock was off of the ceiling
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
recommended "can" lights. Dimmable recessed lighting is something that every room should have. Although I was not expecting to have to remodel my house
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
made the experience very pleasant and I have a much nicer house now than I did before we found the termites. On many decisions that I had to make I just told
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
to do what he thought was best because I knew he would treat my house as if it was his own.
