Home Building Reviews in Portland

I had a good conversation with
and it sounded like they'd be a good fit for my project, but weeks went by and after several emails to them over a 2 month period I never even got the courtesy of a response to say they weren't interested in my project or couldn't do it. Needless to say I didn't go with them for my project.
My Dad was actually considering
for his new home - that's how I heard about them - but after my experience he's since moved on to look at other builders. Amazing that some contractors lack common courtesy to call and let you know if they can't do your job.

His bid for the drywall work came in the lowest. He was offering to do the work at $960 total. He asked for half the money up front and half on completion. He showed up 1 day and stocked materials, and then 1/2 of another day and hanged approximately 30% of the drywall. Then he went completely off the grid and we never heard from him again. He claimed he had been in a car accident - which could very well be true, however we never got any money back from the job he failed to finish. It also threw our project off schedule as we waited around for a response and we scrambled to find another person.

did an excellent job on framing if there was any issues he would call me immediately and go through and explain the issue before proceeding the job. He was very reasonable priced, also recommended great electrician and plumber Who did an excellent job. He also did a few things extra that he did not charge me for . He was able to work with me on price and budgeting which really helped us out.

Installed on time and on schedule about November 2012. Cleaned up the mess. The system works very well. The only issue was follow up when I needed someone a year later to check filter and settings for the Sanidry unit. It might have been because there was a new manager or staff was new. Eventually after some attempts to get someone to come out they did. The unit has continued to work well and no water infiltration despite a lot of rainy days.

We can't thank

Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
's approach was refreshing! He didn't make it seem more difficult than it was, gave us a reasonable quote and had our doors fixed the first day. He did such a great job, that we went on to hire him to build our deck as well. He is knowledgable and thoughtful, and does things right the first time. He has helpful ideas, and is easy to work with.
Prior to his help, we had french doors that had been installed incorrectly by a previous contractor and were leaking. We received several quotes that were astronomical so we had covered them, and were waiting until we could find the right contractor.
Thankfully a friend referred us! We know you will have a positive experience working with

and his company!

I discussed with the contractor my plans and showed him what I wanted to have done. He cautioned me about my plans and what were some of the problems that he saw. He was more thorough than the first two people, and I quickly realize that I would not be able to do this type of remodel and get the results I wanted so I stopped all efforts to move forward. The costs were much higher then I had anticipated. He gave me a thorough explanation, much of which I had not understood. He was extremely knowledgeable. I would consider him for future remodel projects.

Excellent Work, consistently punctual, reasonable price, very professional, followed through on all details, very pleasant to work with, completed fully all items bid. Wonderful experience. Definitely will work with again.

DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! I would highly discourage anyone from ever hiring this company to do work on their home. They do not have an office in Portland, as advertised, and drove up from

. If you do hire them, be aware that you will need an attorney to go over their contract.
Once they had our deposit, all their reassurances of quality costumer service went out the window. I became pregnant during the design phase and we decided to go ahead with the project because they assured us that they could complete the project on time and on budget. We ended up having major concerns from the beginning that started with their timeline and budget going off track almost immediately. When we tried to address our concerns we were treated with disdain. There was a complete disregard for safety on the project. Their lead carpenter, the owner's cousin, couldn't answer questions and constantly told us, "I don't know and I don't want to get in the middle," even though he was the only person on site who was available to answer questions. Their office was chaos and we got shifted numerous times from project manager to project manager to owner and back again.
In November while we were on vacation they started to demo our bathroom. This was explicitly against our instruction to not begin demo there until we were home and could have mold remediation available because we suspected that it would be necessary. We arrived home from vacation on a Friday night to find our bathroom demo started and the door open along with a major opening in the wall where there was black mold behind the old shower walls. Nothing had been done to secure the area. We were told by a mold remediation company that the damage had been done that they only thing left to do was to fog the new and old framing with a mold inhibitor.

subcontracted the re-roofing December and reassured us that the roof would be tarped when the shingles were off. One morning I came upstairs to find water literally pouring into our living room onto live electrical outlets and junction boxes because they hadn't bothered to tarp the bare roof. When I called the office and tried to address it, the lead carpenter dismissed my concerns.
When we tried to address the budget and timeline issues in early January (it was supposed to be done by late January 2013 and was nowhere near completion - demo was still being done), the owner SCREAMED at me on the phone that it was all my fault. This would not be the last time he screamed at me... We finally fired the company at the end of February. They had only completed the demo and framing and windows and rough in electrical at this point and the exterior was still not complete. They had reached our maximum budget with insulation, finish electrical and plumbing, drywall, paint, flooring, bath and kitchen, paint and gutters UNFINISHED. We ended up using our contingency money to finish the work ourselves and hire an ATTORNEY, all while having a new baby. We found out the the $5,000.00 we had paid them to cover the electrical work was not paid to their subcontractor nearly two month after we had paid the bill. We ended up having to rehire someone to finish the electrical work when the previous contractor refused to finish it because he had not been paid.
At one point their project leader stopped by the house in mid February 2013 to discuss an amicable end to our business with the company. The owner accompanied him, despite our request to not have him in our home. With the project leader and my husband there, the owner proceeded to yell and scream at me while I was 7 months pregnant and started to have premature contractions. My husband and I begged him to leave and the project manager had to forcibly remove him from our home.
At the time of our firing them in late February 2013, we had paid
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
for all of their time and materials as well as the $4,000 estimated design cost. At this point they charged us with another $17,000 for the design and "engineering" work that they screwed around for six month on trying to come up with a design to meet our budget. They do not employ an engineer and subsequent contractors as well as our attorney estimated the actual cost of the design work at $1,200.
For this disparity in questionable charges
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
threatened us with a

. At this point we were done and hired an attorney. They wanted arbitration, but never initiated it and then proceeded to put a false

Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
and they refused to drop it. The
Portland Home Builders Provider Name Locked
expired in October 2013 at the same time we were able to get our final permit. Throughout this time they requested arbitration but refused to initiate the proceedings.
Our experience was absolutely horrible and I would like to save anyone else the time, money and

frustration of working with a company that makes huge promises but does not deliver.
