On our first visit to
, we purchased the cabinet, marble top, sink hardware, and matching bathtub hardware for a total of $1,600. The items were all special ordered and arrived in 2 weeks. Upon uncrating the cabinet we discovered that the cabinet fronts had been installed backwards and could not be repaired since holes for the European hinges were drilled into the front sides and could not be repaired. We also thought for the amount of money that we had spent, that the cabinet was of poor quality. We went back to
and arranged to have the cabinet, sink and marble top picked up for return because we did not want to risk purchasing another cabinet through the catalog. We intended to use the same hardware in a pedestal sink that we purchased at another store. Upon delivery of the pedestal sink we discovered that the faucet was not going to work when we did a test fit because our vintage medicine cabinet hung too low and interferred with the faucet. I went back to
to return the faucet and the tub spout and purchase a new faucet and matching tub spout. The original sales person I worked with was not there so I worked with a different sales person who was happy to help. When that second faucet arrived and I prefit that faucet I discovered that because of a lip around the outside perimeter of the pedestal sink that the base of the new faucet did not fit correctly. So I went back again to
to return that faucet and the second tub spout and worked with the same sales person from my prior visit. The sales person found a faucet that had a similar spout but different handles so I decided to go with that. Unfortunately when my wife arrived home that night and saw the faucet she did not like the handles at all and wanted me to get a different faucet. Today I took this faucet and the tub spout back with the intent to purchase a faucet with different handles and matching tub spout that would work. The first sales person saw me and came up to help. When she realized that I was returning a faucet that I didn't buy through her she left without saying anything to me. The second sales person was terse and refunded my money and promptly went onto something else without any offer to help me find a replacement faucet. Because I still wanted to purchase a faucet and tub spout from them, I looked around and found a faucet that would work and went to inquire if that faucet had a matching tub spout. The sales person that had refunded my money 5 minutes before told me that she could not work with me because she was expecting a customer to come in the store although no one was there at that moment. I gave her the
item number and asked her if she could look it up. She declined and said I would have to work with someone else. Since I was also ignored by the other sales people that were in the store I left and went to
plumbing supply about a mile away and within 5 minutes found a faucet which was the same faucet of the last one I had purchased at
but with different handles and that my wife liked. (I had taken a picture and emailed it to my wife to verify that she would like it.) I was happy to give
nearly $600 for the faucet and matching tub spout. OK, I realize I was a pain but there is such a thing as service with a smile. I am certain that I could have purchased that same faucet from
and would have been glad to do so because I did feel an obligation based on the unintended returns that had resulted. I will be doing further remodeling of another bathroom and kitchen butI will be reluctant to try
again.

I went there to buy two pieces of wood. Upon walking in the door, there stood a gorgeous picnic table, one just like the one I wanted and had been looking for. I asked how I could get it home. "Well, that will cost $35 for a delivery." "$35????? Wow." I asked to talk to the manager. I asked him if there was something we could do? "Well, if we're going to be in your area.... Yep. Tomorrow." "WOW!" Then I talked some more to the man out on the floor about how to treat the raw wood. I was asking him what he thought would look nice? Stain it something or leave it the natural look or what? He said, "Just a minute." He came back with some blocks of wood the same kind as the table and 4 samples of the stain. "Here. Try the different stains out on these and see what you like best." I was so impressed. This store really went out of its way! I was talking to the man who delivered my table - again about finishing it. He told me my table would need resealing yearly, or every other year at least, so keep it dry. I wasn't thrilled at that idea. Then he said he has his grandfather's table today and that it is as good as new. His grandfather coated it with 8 layers of marine varnish. Eight! We talked and decided that since my picnic table isn't going a boat that's going to be out in the salty
, maybe 4 coats would be plenty. That's a lot of work - sanding and applying all that - but it's a one time deal and the table will be good to go forever. I hadn't known about the annual sealing until he told me and the marine varnish will save me from having to do that. It was fun hearing his stories about his years with that picnic table, too. It's a very down home, family run business and they have been in business more than 40 years. I can't say enough good things about them!

It went ok, but not great. It was hard to determine what carpet I needed/wanted. All the carpet seemed very expensive - this was for a rental house - I did not need great carpeting. One salesman finally said "all these are 30% off" and steered me toward some more reasonably priced carpet. The process to get the install scheduled was odd. I selected the carpet. Then they send someone out to measure. Then I had to go BACK to the store to pay for it. Are you kidding me? No over the phone or online option to pay? A trip to the store just to sign paper and give them a credit card. Hello
Portland Lumber Stores Provider Name Locked
, 1988 called and wants it's point of sale process back. It seems like there were a few other phone calls in there as well - the process was overly complicated and involved far too many phone calls. It would have been far easier to go to a carpet store, pick carpet, have them come out and measure, and call it done. And it really wasn't any less expensive at Lowe's. The install was scheduled, they arrived on time, and did a nice job. It looked good when they were done. Grading them down for the awkward sales and scheduling process.

Portland Lumber Stores Provider Name Locked
is very convenient for me. I didn't interact with the employees too much. We pretty much found everything ourselves because it was so easy to find everything. The aisles are labeled very well so the customer can find what they need with ease. The employees that did talk to us were friendly, too.

The local one that I deal with is very responsive, I bought an electrical panel from them and the main breaker was broken, and they were good to exchange the product for us without any hassle.

We are doing several remodel projects and are frequent customers of
Portland Lumber Stores Provider Name Locked
. They are always well-staffed and immediately ask if they can help when you walk into the store. For a smaller hardware store, they have a surprisingly good selection of items. I like that I can get in and out of the store relatively quickly.

Everyone in this friendly neighborhood store really goes the extra mile to be helpful and answer questions. (especially from novices) They take the time to listen and help you locate items on the shelves. It is a great neighborhood resource and I prefer to spend my money locally rather than the bigger chain hardware stores. They are always very welcoming to children in their store too!

Took some time to get estimate due to sub-contractors schedule. Estimate was high but selected this firm because I was not able to supervise & observe job in person and wanted to go with a firm that would stand behind the work. Work was slow to start and materials were left at job site for some time - this is a rental house and the tenant called me concerned that materials could walk away since they were just left along side the street. Installation was satisfactory with one exception - the gate latch was installed such that you had to reach over the gate when exiting from the yard; the tenant is short and couldn't get out. Called
Portland Lumber Stores Provider Name Locked
and asked to have sub-contractor take care of this - took too long to fix this problem.

I was in despair. The painters were expected within hours and I never thought there would be a problem matching the paint.

's painting associate was at a loss until he remembered that
Portland Lumber Stores Provider Name Locked
, also a paint associate, had a good eye for color and called her in. She set right to work, confiding that her skill as a photographer has developed her eye for color. Approaching the task methodically
Portland Lumber Stores Provider Name Locked
teased out the formula for the color which allowed me to return for two more gallons when we ran out. I do not know what I would have done if

had not worked her magic but I am very glad I did not have to find out.

For the last three years I have lived in the area, this
Portland Lumber Stores Provider Name Locked
store in the Pearl has been an incredible resource. All of the staff are kind and helpful, and have steered me clear of problems well ahead of finding them myself half way through a home project. I highly recommend them for just about any small- to mid-sized home project.
