Portland General Surgeons Reviews

"I was referred to Dr.
Portland General Surgeons Provider Name Locked
by my regular physician. They told me he was one of the best in the area. The issue was testicular cancer. I met with him on a Monday, he had me do some blood work, Xrays, and CAT scans to
Portland General Surgeons Provider Name Locked
out another variety of cancer that could have been causing my tumor. Then, after those results came back negative, he said the next thing we needed to do was get an orchiectomy done, to remove the testical and tumor. So two days later I was in surgery.

Normally, from what I understand, this is a relatively

surgical procedure and the patient normally goes home the same day. But in my case, we had some complications. My heart stopped the second that the surgery began. From what I'm told by all the nurses, Dr.
Portland General Surgeons Provider Name Locked
instantly jumped over on top of me and began performing chest compressions (CPR) to get my heart going again. And he did! He got it pumping again and they were able to stabilize me and continue surgery. He continued on and successfully removed the tumor, etc. Turns out the cardiac arrest was probably just due to low blood pressure mixed with a little sensitivity to the general anesthesia. But they placed me in ICU for the night and next day, just to run some tests and make sure I didn't also have a heart issue that needed to be addressed.

Overall, it was a very good experience. Dr.
Portland General Surgeons Provider Name Locked
saved my life in two ways that day! And for that, I couldn't be more thankful. Thanks to his immediate action, I was revived quickly and the follow up care was exactly what I needed.

Personally, I would rate Dr.
Portland General Surgeons Provider Name Locked
a 7/10. More professional, direct and straight to the point than friendly and caring. But I can't fault him too much for that. I don't go to the doctor to make friends. I go to get a medical procedure done, and done well. And in that, he did everything just perfect. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone for care related to his specialty. I got the sense that he really knows what he is doing.

"Dr. Aliabadi was able to convince my mother that now she had to think about herself. She was a calming, stable force who single handedly was able to give us all confidence in the procedure. The team she assembled gave my mother such comfort in a difficult time, as she was wheeled into the operating room, the anesthesiologist asked what kind of music she liked, my mother indicated a favorite song of my fathers - the sound of that song was her last memory before surgery. My mother talks about hearing that music to this day. I am happy to report the surgery was a success and my mother is enjoying her grandchildren as well as her beautiful garden. Of all of the doctors she has dealt with during this process, Dr. Aliabadi is the one that she comments on the most, with gratitude and true respect."

"I was diagnosed with anemia 3 times throughout adulthood ... first, when I was rejected as a blood donor at 22 y/o & hadn't a clue what that meant. Iron supplements didn't resolve the problem. At age 61, I've had 3 endoscopies & 3 colonoscopies. Finally, my gastroenterologist found

lesions in my esophagus. These are a known cause of iron deficiency anemia and are easy to overlook during an endoscopy. The surgeon that my gastroenterologist referred me to doesn't actually do this type of surgery (it's very specialized, I guess) and he referred me to Dr.
Portland General Surgeons Provider Name Locked
, describing him as the "local expert" in this field of medicine. High praise for someone who is only 37 y/o! Per the Legacy Health website, "Dr.
Portland General Surgeons Provider Name Locked
is a general surgeon with special training in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery. After residency at OHSU, he spent two additional years in advanced specialty training devoted solely to Laparoscopic Surgery. His interests are primarily in esophageal, general gastrointestinal, and solid organ surgery." Upbeat & patient, he seemed very sincere in the time & attention he devoted to my questions (I always have lots of questions & he actually seemed to welcome them!). I never felt rushed during our pre-surgery & follow-up appts. The laparoscopic surgery itself left me with 5 small incisions in my abdomen (?) ... the largest being less than an inch long ... that did not even require stitches ... just some sort of tape that I was able to remove in a few days. Pain after surgery was less than you might expect & easily controlled with medication for a short time. Complete recovery to being able to eat a normal diet has been about 2 months for me, but it was absolutely worth it. I lost 20 lbs & my relationship with food has changed in a good way. Am trying to maintain that with smaller portions (salad plate instead of dinner plate), eating slowly & chewing thoroughly. Have noticed a surge in energy & clearer thinking. I will know more specifics with blood tests for iron in early

. The only downside was that his assistant was unreliable as far as returning phone calls & didn't follow through with requesting a formulary exception from my insurance to reimburse me for my pain medication.

"He was an intern, but he was the one I would see. He listens and is very thorough and does not rush. Explains alternatives, and various options and gives advice. Easy to approach and explains everything well."

"She is warm, loving, professional, and extremely knowledgable. She does very good work and is very knowledgable in her field. I would recommend her and use her again."

"He takes his time with you, but he is usually running late because he is taking his time with his other patient and answering all their questions. He is very professional and a nice guy."

"I would say the surgery was a success. The disc was shaved off and the pressure was relieved. I have healed well after the fact, but I had another complication. I have a bone spur at the same point in my back between two vertebrae. I asked him to removed and he said he would since he would be in there already. When surgery came, he told me, the patient still groggy from anesthesia, that he removed, but admitted to my husband when questioned in the waiting room that he didn't know what he was talking about - he hadn't done anything for that. The doctor's bedside manner was lacking, and once he took the staples out of my back he did not want to see me again. There was no follow up and I had to call back later and ask if there was the possibility of physical therapy. He is an older man who has been doing this a long time and I believe it has become too routine. He may be a skilled surgeon, but at the end of the day this patient wanted more than that."
