responded promptly (within 2 hours) of message left (after hours) to come and evaluate two chimneys in our newly purchased home in Fox Chapel. According to prior homeowner neither fp had been used in 14 years - and reportedly both had been "sealed shut".
scheduled an appointment with us 2 days after our call/request. He arrived on time, evaluated each of the fireplaces and offered his assessment of each. We then asked for his opinion on re-connecting the fireplace that once had a gas line for use with as gas/wood burning fp vs installing gas logs vs. installing fireplace insert. After much discussion, we made a trip to see the gas logs that he suggested.
was kind enough to speak with the salesperson at the fireplace show room to provide his assessment of the situation and explain what he recommended based on what we wanted. We opted to go with the gas log set.
then called the following Monday (4 days later) and completed the work that Thursday (one week start to finish).
He and an assistant unsealed each of the rusted, closed chimneys, cleaned both, installed new damper in each of the chimneys, repaired mortar in each of fireplaces, and painted the gas log fireplace with black paint - vastly improving the looks and making each operational again. He reconnected the gas line that had been dismantled (in the garage/basement), installed the gas log set that we discussed, demonstrated it's use, demonstrated how to use each damper, reviewed safety issues (a few times) including showing me three different places to turn off gas line, and brought Carbon Monoxide
in throughout to ensure that no CO2 was escaping. He then urged us to get a CO detector for safety precaution. The other fireplace was cleaned, repaired and readied for wood burning. He then showed me the dampers open vs closed from the outside view - and checked/showed me that the chimney was properly drafting.
The sealed fireplaces were much more difficult to unseal that he had expected - causing him a few additional hours of work. He also agreed to take off an old glass door from one of the fireplaces - despite each of these things requiring more time, the proposed amount did not change. He stood by his proposal which was greatly appreciated.
Excellent work. He and his assistant were knowledgeable, professional, timely and took great care to use covers for the floor, removing their shoes and using 409 to clean any remaining prints. They were very respectful of our home. I can't say enough about the care and service that
provided. I recommend him highly and without reservation.

Everything went very well. I called on Monday for an inspection of my chimney, which I had not used since moving to my new home. I got an appointment two days later. The men (father and son team) showed up on time and inspected my chimney ($59). They noticed that there was a long piece of wood across the top of the fireplace opening on the inside of the fireplace, which was a safety hazard. They put concrete over the wood. They also found twigs at the top of the chimney, indicating birds may have been there. They cleaned the twigs and put a cap on the chimney. The total cost for all the work was $300. They also told me that some of the bricks and concrete were loose at the top of the chimney and gave me an estimate for that work, which can't be done until the spring.
They also showed me how to use chimney. They were very nice, professional, knowledgeable, and reasonably priced.

The company did not follow through on completing the work for which we had contracted.
To pick up where I left off in "what did the provider do?", I would note the following: Several more weeks passed, at which point I received another call from the owner, asserting that he had come to my home and made telephone calls to me to arrange for the work to
be done. He acknowledged that he did not leave a message when he called (and he did not leave a card when he allegedly came to the home). I found this odd and I found no evidence that he had called my home. We finally set up the work to be performed on 25 January 2014. The weather forecast for that day was poor, so I called the company the day before the work was to be done, asked that I receive a call confirming that he would not be coming on the 25th, and asking that we set up another date to have it performed. I did not ever hear from him again. I subsequently notified the company that it is obvious that there is no desire on its part to perform the work and that I do not want this company to do it. I thought someone might contact me with an apology and to admit that this job proposal was botched, but no one could be bothered. I have now wasted valuable time, losing a season in getting this repair performed. I do not understand why a company would waste my time and not be interested in performing an expensive, lucrative job.

Ten years ago after I purchased my home another chimney sweep told me there was a crack in my flue and that in order to use the fireplace I would need a liner. The cost he quoted was $3,000. At that time I chose to wait and did not use the fireplace; one of the reasons I bought the house in the first place. On February 2 Mr. Dziho and his crew came to inspect my chimney and told me all I needed was a new damper and a cleaning. After inspecting the fireplace, Mr. Dziho inspected my furnace and water heater. The furnace is not vented through the chimney but the water heater is. Upon further inspection they found that the water heater was not fully vented, which could lead to carbon monoxide being leaked into my home. On February 9 Mr. Dziho returned and fully vented my water heater through the chimney. Both times Mr. Dziho and his crew were courteous and professional. They did exactly what they said they would do and left my house spotless. I love using my fireplace and would definitely use their services again. BTW I received a $20 discount for being an Angie's List member.

We recently moved into a new house and wanted to make sure the fireplace was usable, chimney was ok, etc.
He came out the day after I called and looked at our fireplace as well as another chimney outside the kitchen. He checked out the fireplace and then went into the basement to look at an old gas line that has been run into the fireplace in the past. Overall it was exactly what I was looking for - someone to look at everything and tell me about any potential problems. He was able to point out how everything was being used and how it had been used in the past (former

Couldn't have been more friendly or informative and the $69 standard fee was reasonable for the trip out in my opinion.

We'd been meaning to light some fires as things got chilly in the winter, but we bought our house in the spring and it hadn't been occupied for a while before that, so we did not know the state of the chimney.
We called
Pittsburgh Chimney Sweeps Provider Name Locked
so we could get the chimney cleaned for sure and possibly repaired if there were any issues. They set an appointment for the next day, which was a pleasant surprise.
They came over, inspected things (which were fine but dirty, thankfully), laid down drop cloths, cleaned the chimney and explained to us how to open and close it when we lit fires. They didn't leave behind a mess, were prompt and courteous.
All in all, satisfied with the job for the price and we will likely use them again next time we need a cleaning.

All went very well. I had no problem setting up the appointment for several days after my call and they arrived right when they said they would. I did ask on the phone if they needed to come out and give me an estimate first and they said no the cost would be $169.00. They did a nice job and they had to put some bricks under the crate to rise it up a little to get a better flow of air into the damper I asked if there was a charge for the bricks - they said no. But when it came to pay the bill, the cost was $179.00 (although I did get $20 off for mentioning Angie's list), because they said this was my first time using them. They did not mention that when I called to set up the appointment that the fee was higher if you had not used them before. I have a feeling I did pay for those bricks. But overall, I would recommend them. There was no cleanup on my end which was great, and it only took them a short time to complete.

I first met
Pittsburgh Chimney Sweeps Provider Name Locked
when I needed a second opinion on a chimney inspection I had performed prior to the sale of my house. The hack who first inspected the chimney recommended $3000 in repairs, with a dire warning that my house would burn down if I looked at the fireplace wrong. This after 12 years of substantial use of said fireplace.

came out for the second opinion and explained in great detail how the first inspector was most interested in separating me from my money, and assured me that although not a perfect flu, it was in no

of starting a fire. And the house past inspection after the sale. I have gone back to

ever since. I now have three fireplaces and when he inspects them he only does the work necessary, sweeping only those that need it.

We purchased our home this past summer and even though the home inspector said everything looked good he suggested to have someone certified inspect it. I scheduled an appointment with them based on others Angie's List reviews.
Pittsburgh Chimney Sweeps Provider Name Locked
and his partner showed up a couple minutes before 8:00 am (the scheduled appointment time) and got right to work after introducing himself. The inspection and cleaning took no more than 30 minutes and the left our home clean. They removed their shoes at the door and took care to respect our home.
The price was what they quoted ($90 to inspect and $160 if it needed cleaned as well) which I felt was appropriate for the service provided. After the service was complete,

took time to give us suggestions on how to maintain the fireplace and chimney, and overall was professional and friendly. Overall this was a great experience and we will definitely use

Communication with the provider is very easy, and they were responsive. They came a couple of days after our first call to look at the work to be done, adjusting to my own schedule requirements. I set up the job mid-week and a couple of days later they showed up on time and did the job. I needed a flue pipe for venting a water heater, and the job looks solid, even as the chimney is not in prime condition. Overall it was a very positive experience.
