"I called in May (2 months ago) for an estimate on bathroom remodeling. They sent someone out (
) to take measurements and he said he would take it back to the project manager and get back to us an estimate of cost and time. 3 weeks ...more later we still didn't hear anything back. In the mean time they left several messages to try and set up a consultation. We were confused! So we called them back to find out why they were trying to set up a new customer consultation with us when we already had one and were waiting to hear back with the estimate. They apologized and said since the original consultation was with my husband they must've got their wires crossed an accidentally were trying to make an appt with me not knowing they spoke with my husband already, they said they would locate our estimate and call us back.... I thought it was strange they were trying to take on more project when they couldn't even complete an estimate/consultation, but Ok honest mistake right? Well 2 weeks later and still no one has called back. So I called them and spoke with a female receptionist (can't remember her name) and she was very apologetic and said they've had a lot of problems with
and they were in the process of transitioning staff. She would contact the project manager (I think
) and have them call me back with all of the information the next day.... Well here it is in
and have had no contact from them ever!! Terrible communication, terrible management, and terrible business!!!! "

"The floor is beautiful. Job went very well. Backsplash excellent. The extra touch up and finish work was done professionally and made it all pop together. Our Kitchen actually looks like a designer picture in a magazine.
saved ...more me from other not so reputable contractors. He is very good with stone, tile , Plaster, flooring. He can do it all witch makes for a more complete job and far less hastles from multiple contractors. His workers are also top notch with a good work ethic and very courteous. I have dealt with many contractors of all types and have restored several homes myself. I wish I had met
years ago. "

"Some people splurge on gourmet kitchens with built-in coffeemakers, wine
refrigerators, industrial-grade stoves, etc. What we splurged on in
our small, windowless kitchen was handmade tiles from Earth Song

"All workers on the job were courteous, trustworthy, and respectful of our home and pets.
Butler provided a good estimate of cost and adjusted as necessary for additional work. Chip was friendly and open with what days/hours he would be working, and he laid down tarps and cleaned up the work area each day on the job before leaving. ...more
provided suggestions and recommendations to assist with design decisions. Responsiveness to emails, text messages, and calls was prompt.
Communication and organization between workers regarding the design could be improved. It helps to have a binder of the estimates, drawings of the design, and details on the fixtures and materials on-hand. It also helped to answer questions and adjust design when needed while the work was in progress. The project did extend past the initial estimated end date, but we were in no rush. We are extremely happy with the quality of work performed and the offer to return to fix any issues that we notice after they completed.
We would recommend
for a remodel project and will probably use them again for any major project we're not confident that we can do ourselves. "
arrived at 8:30am and worked quietly and professionally every day for 2 weeks. They took about a 45 minute lunch and cleaned up their mess and left every day by 4:00. I felt they went above and beyond when taking care of some wall repairs. They even corrected some mistakes other contractors had made at no additional ...more charge. I will use them again next year when we remodel our basement and laundry room. "
to complete and I did write that work was completed as I didn't review his last job at my place (wasn't an angie's list member then). Work however was not complete this time.
originally through my Kitchen contractor ...more when I rennovated my kitchen just over 2 years ago. He charged me only for the labor as I had all the materials purchased and available prior to his arrival. He placed
hardwood floors (hickory) in my kitchen and dining room and did a tile back splash in the kitchen. (travertine). Approx sq ftr of floor was about 250 and approx sq ft of backsplash was 50. Total cost for that job was just about 1200 dollars. He was punctual. He was considerate of my furniture and carpet in the house. He was great at communicating. After that job I even recommneded him to one of my coworkers who use him for some tiling and some flooring.
When I started to consider a bathroom remodel it made perfect sense to go with someone I had used in the past and who I trusted and who I knew used the right products and did things the right way. (i.e. no shortcuts).
out to my house prior to the start of any work on the bathroom. He came 7 days after I called him. He arrived promptly at 10am on 3/6/14 as we had agreed. I showed him some samples of the tile I wanted to use and he took some measurements. He gave me a ballpark of price for labor that day so we agreed to move forward. We again agreed that I would have all materials available and that he would provide me with a list. I told him that I was not in any rush to get things started but that if he was available then I would start. I was doing the demo and all the plumbing myself and he was going to hang the cement board and do the tile/finishing work. He said and I quote "I am pretty light the next couple of weeks, so go ahead and start; let me know when you are getting closer to being done so we can set up a day but I am fairly flexible."
I proceeded to start the demo on 3/7/14. I sent him an e-mail on 3/10/14 saying that I would have everything ready for him to go (i.e. bathroom ready and material at the house) by 3/13 and that if he could get started 3/13 and 3/14 that would be great. He mentioned he was not availble that day and so I suggested 3/17 and 3/18 as start days but he was "closing on a property' so couldn't do that either. So on 3/17 I sent him an email with the following dates of availability:
>Mon 3/17/14: All day
>Tues 3/18/14: All day
>Wed 3/19/14: Morning only
>Thurs 3/20/14: Could make all day work but only if we have enough of a head's up (like finalizing today); and the emphasis here is that I might be able to make this day work; not sure yet.
>Fri 3/21/14: All day
>Sat 3/22/14: Morning only
>Sun 3/23/14: All day
>Mon 3/24/14: All day
>Tues 3/25/14: Morning only
>Fri 3/28/14: All day
>Sat 3/29/14: All day
on 3/17/14 later in the evening his exact response via e-mail was:
"Sorry for geting back to you so late, it has been one ofthose days. This week looks to be very crasy. All of the dates for next week will work for me. I may be able to get in to start over the weekend but I will need to see how my week plays out. I can let you know in a day or so about the weekend."
Since i had worked with him before and knew he did quality work and was going to do so at a reasonable price I continued to tolerate this as he kept pushing me back. For him to start on 3/24 that would mean that my bathroom was ready for the tile and finishing work for nearly 2 weeks before he would get started.
I then proceed to call him on 3/19, 3/20 and 3/21 and left voicemails. He did return the call on 3/19 and said he would need to get back to me about the weekend of 3/22 and 3/23 but that he could defintely start on 3/24.
THat was the last I heard from him. My last message that I left was 3/22 and I simply asked him that if he was planning on working my place on 3/24 that I would need him to call me by 5pm that day otherwise I was going to find a different person to complete the work.
I have no issues with contractors who are so busy with other jobs that they don't have time for my job. I also realize that my job was likely a relatively small job and that other larger jobs are more improtant for his company's bottom line. I just don't appreciate being lied to and strung along. I included details with the dates and the quotes from the e-mails just to provide proof of my struggles. The Open and honest communication i had come to know with
from the Kitchen product seemed like it was there for the bathroom project but quickly disappeared. I never did sign a contract with him but with my experienc with him I didn't think I had to until he started the work. As he did last time he didn't even want a penny until the project was complete so I didn't
I did initially tell him I wasn't in a hurry to complete the project, which was true . . . until I had a bathroom ripped apart. When he said he had a relatively open schedule I started the demo. I hafve been without our main bathroom for about 3 weeks now and it has been almost 2 weeks since it has been ready to be tiled. THat is when I grew impatient and demanded action.
I called a differtent person on 3/22. He came that day for an estimate and started 3/24. Look for his review (Travoto Construction and Remodeling) upon completion of the work . . . whcih should be no later than 3/ 27/14. "
initially came out to my home the men were extremely friendly. They helped me clear all of the furniture out of the room that was being cleaned (I was juggling my infant son) and brought their machine into my home. Upon beginning they realized the machine was broken. They cleaned up the water that they had put down on the ...more floor, put my furniture back and were very apologetic. They said if I would allow them to come back they would only charge me for half of the square footage. I agreed to allow them to come back at the discounted rate. The next day I got a call from
saying they had an opening at 1:30. They asked if I'd like it. I said yes. They got here at 4:30. I moved all of the furniture to save time. Once they got here they cleaned the floors (got my carpets totally soaked in the process, they did suck up the water at the end however). I called
and explained to her that the previous guys had offered me 1/2 price for the inconvenience, she told me to tell the guys working and they wrote it on my invoice. I then signed the invoice. I received a bill from them today detailing a small discount but no where near what I was promised. I called
and an extremely rude man told me that it was a mistake. After explaining that they inconvenienced me many times on many levels, and furthermore I SIGNED an invoice stating the discount, he responds "fine" and hangs up. Wow. Awesome
