"They were very professional and their pricing was the best price I got. The discount I got was better than any other company. When they showed up for the job, they" were prompt and they finished the job on time! They also were very good at handling on site issues. The only thing I wish they would do better is cleaning up after they were done or finding a more environment friendly way of doing the job. Our whole house was full of dust after the job was done and we had to do major deep cleaning, wall and window washing to get rid of the dust. However, its not a big deal and we managed to clean every thing after it was over.

-Hanan H.

"I would like to first preface the fact that I am very critical when it comes to analyzing any work for which I have to pay, as I am on a fixed income and retired." Initially, when I read a few of their reviews, I commented jokingly that some of those people writing the reviews were either paid or family members. Well..... from the first day
and his crew began the work, until its' completion, I was amazingly pleased.
explained, in detail, how he was going to implement the work I needed done. And, I felt him to be honest and patient as he offered suggestions to fit my needs and pockets, without cutting back on the quality .
and his crew were professional, pleasant and accommodating in everyway, as they implemented everything according to the plan and schedule.
, I want to thank you and your crew again for such an excellent job. You deserve to be commended for your hard work and maintaining high standards. And, Angie's List, I can't thank you enough for providing me the opportunity to access such a great contractor.

It’s easy to do, but forgetting your crawl space can have plenty of negative consequences for the rest of your home from poor air quality to high energy bills.

Angie's Answers

Mold in a basement is a common problem. My company helps people with this every day. Some of the answers you received were helpful but not all the information is correct. First, you need to eliminate the two main ingrediants that mold needs to survive. The first one is water intrusion. This is a must. I am assuming you have no water intrusion as you make no mention. The second componant that needs to be eliminated is moisture. Moisture is also humidity. Basements need to be kept airtight in the summer months. Some folks have posted that you need air flow in your basement. Nothing could be furthur from the truth. When you open any windows for example, not one micron of air goes out of the basement, Warm humid air is sucked into the basement. Houses suck air into the basement and it meets the cool surfaces and skyrockets humidity. The windows must be kept closed and a dehumidification device installed to ensure humidity stays below 60% humidity. The dehumidifier should be energy star rated and purchasing a seperate humidity guage is a must to monitor the unit's progress. We like to keep our customer's basements at 50% humidity. This eliminates the smell that is active mold spore growth. Once the water and humidity is brought under control. Remove the organic materials that have mold on them. Walls, sheetrock and studs that have been affected. Follow the advice of previous posts as you must ensure that you do not affect the rest of the home. Once removed, install new walls using as much inorganic material as possible. We also install vapor barrier over the walls and seal the floors to stopwater vapor transmission into the basement. Poly plastic is not a acceptable vapor barrier. It is not "zero-perm" and will still allow moisture transmission. It will also crack and break into pieces over the years. A PVC liner rated "zero-perm" is the correct product in this application. Depending how large the basement is and if it is sectioned off will determine the dehumidifier strength. We use the Santa Fe line of dehidifiers as they are super energy efficiant and work like a dehumidifier on steriods. I hope this helps and I wish you the best in Basement Health!

Where is the home located, what is the exterior wall construction and type, how is the space heated?

It could be a whole host of different scenarios that would generate that result.  It is nearly impossible to tell but I would say that most basement moisture problems are a result of bulk moisture intrusion or condensation issues.

Given the deep and hard winter this year, it could be a condensation issue that hadn't previously been shown.

Basement Waterproofing reviews in Pittsburgh

They came out promptly and not only looked at this area but other areas In our basement to be sure there were no other problem areas. They did find one in the laundry room that may be caused by a faulty downspout. I am now contacting another contractor to look at that issue. I must give credit to all three people I dealt with: 1). Stu - the sales person who was my initial contact, 2)
Pittsburgh Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
Pittsburgh Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
- the field people who came out to do the work. They did not mind my questions at all, and were happy to explain the process. I like to learn as much as I can about any contracting work that is being done to educate myself. That way if anything similar happens again, I understand it and know who to call, it also helps me to then refer a contractor to my friends if they have a similar issue. I can explain to them what the contractor found in our house to help them make a decision on what they need to do and who This was a one day job and they did everything to my satisfaction. My basement smells fresher and cleaner. I have confidence I can move on to the next phase of this project knowing we are not covering up a problem that could fester behind the new walls we put up. Thank you

Well they appear to have done a good job with the wall straightening and they did appear to of installed the rebar and slurry every 32 inch in the bowed wall. But I was at work, so I can't say for sure. But there is patch work on the cement deck every 32 inch or so, it appears they did do this. But when I came home the last day from work I looked for an opening for the drain and I didn't see one. I called the company.
Pittsburgh Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
said they expected to be paid but I wasn't home. She asked if I wanted to pay by credit card, I said ok. So we charged the full amount. My mistake I should not have paid until all issue were resolved. I asked if someone could come up and explain how the French drain works because I don't see an opening for the water to come out.
Pittsburgh Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
, said she would have the owner or the head engineer call that night after 4:30, no one called. I had to call the next day and asked to arrange to have someone come out and explain things to me,
Pittsburgh Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
said we normally don't do this. She said she would have the owner out on Monday. I then went outside and dug into where the drain should be, the shallowest spot where I wouldn't have to dig down much, and I did not see a drain. So I called the credit card company and asked to cancel the charge. Since the charge was still pending, the girl said she could call "
Pittsburgh Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
" and ask to have the charge removed. So she called an she got

on the line.

could not authorize removing the charge. But after that call she must of spoke to the owner,
Pittsburgh Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
called me to say a crew would be out the next day, Saturday, and they will dig up or do whatever to make things right. It turns out the crew made a mistake and did not install the French drain. They did remedy the situation and install the drain as they were supposed to have done. When doing the work they were not going to put gravel in, when I was expecting them to do that. So I had to tell them no I want the gravel. So they had to go get gravel. I hope this will last, I think its ok now.

This was a very thorough walk through of the way my house was built, and addressed several drainage opportunities I could take advantage of with minimal work around the foundation. The Keystone Team was exceptionally knowledgeable about the issue I was dealing with, and how I did not have to worry, given the way the house was constructed. They could have easily made a lot of money off me given my concerns.
- Gabriel S.

I had high hopes for this experience, and was sorely disappointed.
First, the cost of the new concrete floor increased by 13% - the reason, as it was explained to me, was that the floor and the pipes and drains were unlevel. The house is over 100 years old, so it is surprising to me that this would have been unexpected.
Secondly, I had scheduled this job 3 months prior to the actual installation. I needed to arrange for the furnace and hot water heater to be removed from the basement before they started, which I did. I spoke with the company about minimizing the amount of time I would have to go without the hot water heater, since the job was scheduled for three days. At that point, I learned that the job was 4 days, but we worked out a way to keep the amount of time without hot water to one night, by them installing a quick-drying pad for it.
On the first day of work, I get a message at 2:40pm to call back because there is a problem. I called back at 3, but no one answered and I left a message and told them to try email, too. I got an email that said to call at 3:47, and I called back at 4, and again at 4:12. We made arrangements to meet at 7 at my home to go over the problem. We met, when I learned about the unlevel floor/pipes/drains and the additional cost, and that the steps to my basement had been supported by chunks of concrete (unbeknownst to me), and when the crew removed the supports and continued using the stairs, the stairs broke off in one big piece.
At 9pm, I got an email saying that the crew had been scheduled elsewhere, and they would try to see if they could get someone to at least come put in the pad for the hot water heater. When I heard back the next morning at 10, I learned that the owner did not know that we were meeting at 7pm, nor did she know that there was a hot water heater in the basement (I'm not aware of most houses having a hot water heater elsewhere!). Therefore, the job was delayed until the next day, end of story. So all the time I had spent arranging and coordinating so that I would only be without hot water for only one night was wasted. (I have a 3 year old whose favorite activities are dirt and sand, so this was very important to me.) No accommodation or recompense was offered, although the owner grudgingly said she'd pay $100 for a hotel after I asked. I didn't have time to pack up my son in the middle of the week and take him to a hotel, and so I didn't use that option.
Lastly, without asking, the crew removed the steps that had broken from my property, and when I called to find out why, the first response was to insist that the steps were broken before they started. Lucky for me, they had not been trashed, and they did return them to me. No recompense for breaking the "broken" stairs, either. (For the record, there was a lot of stuff in the basement prior to this job, and I had to get it all removed. All that stuff was removed without the stairs breaking off.)
I really wanted to be able to recommend this company, as I even have a friend who is looking for someone to do a basement. Unfortunately, I can't recommend them.

spent a lot of time describing the solution and telling us how it would remedy our water problem. He was consultative and did not try to oversell. I appreciated his honesty and the professionalism. The installation crew was just as impressive. They were prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, and completed the work within 2 days. They cleaned everything before leaving. I am very pleased with everything. I have already recommended to another family member. Kudos to the entire

After our initial call.
Pittsburgh Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
met my husband at a convenient time and gave a quote in a few days. We were able to schedule within a few weeks. His installers showed up on time, they were polite, clean and informative. They finished in @4 days and cleaned up very well considering the amount of dust that was generated.
After the install was completed, they discussed maintenance of the unit and any other issue that could pop up. When it has rained hard, we can hear it working.

We'd had an internal french drain installed in our 1940's house in1992 along 2 walls. The drains both worked fine until the back drain just quit working. The company who did the initial installation had gone out of business so we called for estimates from 3 companies to see what it would take to dry up our basement. The first company alerted us to the fact that this same wall was beginning to bow and had cracked about 4 feet up from the ground.

was the second bid we received and he was up front and honest with us about the damage. The first and third bids we had gotten really tried to scare us, and if nothing else that really turned us against them. Because of some other home repairs that cropped up, we had to schedule with

later than we wanted, but his crew came on the day expected - on time (in fact a few minutes early) and took three days to do the work and clean up. We haven't had rain yet to test out the new system, I will update later, but if going on professionalism and fairness, I'd say this company is a

The project went very well. First, I requested the estimate one year ago and then had to postpone the project. Mr.

was the project foreman. He could not have been more skilled and professional.

the project like he was working on his own home. Communication with the team was very good. When problems arose, they contacted us immediately. The main problem was during the excavation the crew hit an area of solid rock that could not be removed.
Pittsburgh Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
alerted me to the problem. I discussed alternatives with Mr.

and Mr.
Pittsburgh Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
and they were able to modify the route for the drains to work around the problem. A second problem was in one area, a larger area needed to be excavated, creating a need for more gravel. Extra gravel was provided at cost. At each stage of the project,
Pittsburgh Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
walked around the property with me to make sure that things were back the way they should be. This was a big project. Two excavators moved through our property for two weeks. The lawn will need to be replaced. During the estimating process though, I was informed of what to expect and at the end of the project the property looked like what I expected. I am very pleased with how things went and would confidently recommend this company.
