Minor car crash? Don’t just assume everything’s OK

To ensure a wreck doesn’t ruin your car's long-term health, keep an eye out for these symptoms that may indicate mechanical problems.

Will my car insurance rate increase after I file a claim?

Every situation and every car insurance company is different, but learning how claims affect your insurance rates can help you prepare financially.

Do you have to use the body shop the insurance company recommends?

No, you don't have to use the body shop that the insurance company recommended. The choice is yours — by law, in the majority of cases. Yet a question remains: Will you get a quality repair?

"Perfectly professional from start to finish. This was the second car we took to
Pittsburgh Auto Repair Provider Name Locked
in the past 2 months. Work was scheduled to be done within 2 weeks of the quote, and the car was completed on time. His estimate was the best (providing the most quality work for the price) and the finished product looks great! When I need any auto body services in the future, I will definitely return to

Pittsburgh Auto Repair Provider Name Locked
was able to meet me same day I called at his shop for a quote. I knew his price was competitive, however looked at 2 other shops just to be sure (one was recommended by the other driver's insurance co - who was paying for some of the repairs) both of the other estimates were higher. Scheduled with
Pittsburgh Auto Repair Provider Name Locked
for repair the following week. Car was done on time, and looks amazing. Secretary
Pittsburgh Auto Repair Provider Name Locked
was prompt and efficient. Such a good experience that we brought our other car to him 2 weeks later for some repairs.

"This was a 10 year old car that I had owned for one year. It showed no signs of major rust at the time of purchase. After a
Pittsburgh Auto Repair Provider Name Locked
winter, the right rocker panel was showing significant rust, and if left untouched, would have doomed my car after another winter, as had happened to my previous car.
I sent the car to
Pittsburgh Auto Repair Provider Name Locked
's to get work done in order to pass inspection. They were unable to locate a panel from usual factory and junkyard sources for my not very common small SUV.
Pittsburgh Auto Repair Provider Name Locked
told me he would figure out what to do. It took almost a month, but he eventually found someone to fabricate a part. Then
Pittsburgh Auto Repair Provider Name Locked
's crew installed it and painted it, such that after two years, I can't tell that it was patched.
When I finally got the car back, I found out that the seat belts on the passenger side were not working, likely clogged with sand used during the repair work. It took another day to have those installed, and when I paid the bill, they gave a discount since I was without the car so long.

"There was major and minor damage on every side and the front bumper was just hanging off. He did a fabulous job at a fair price."

"When it was finished and I went to pick it up I noticed they had put almost 100 miles on my car while in it was their possession! My car is a collector car and I only drive it a few times out of the year. Someone could have been joyriding in my car and I have to wonder if the clutch was damaged.

To date they have no explanation who took my car. Incompetent or untrustworthy?

I always note the odometer when I leave my cars with someone. It makes me wonder how often this happens and people don't notice. Pictures of odometer at drop-off and pick-up: http://s258.photobucket.com/albums/hh247/JMJM1986/NSX%20Milage/?action=view&current=nsxmilage.jpg

"I had bent my right front fender driving out of my garage. 2006 Subaru has 89,000 miles on it; I intend to keep it another 5 years or so. The passenger door rubbed against the fender every time I opened of closed it. I had used this body shop once, years ago, with very satisfactory results. I checked this list for current reports, took my car there.

came out of the shop to examine it. He said he could take his

, pull the

out, and forget I was ever there. Curious, I asked the cost for a real fix. Buy a (use) replacement fender, install, paint, etc. About $500. I opted for the free fix, gave him $10. He said he could do a better job in the shop, pulled the car in, and spent about 7 minutes pulling out the

, reattaching the fender skirt, making sure everything lined up well with no contact. He reassured me that while the paint was scuffed where the door had rubbed on the fender, the primer was still intact. Clear nail polish, a black sharpie, and it will look, if not as good as new, at least completely satisfactory to my not too critical eye. I had told the young Mr.

what
Pittsburgh Auto Repair Provider Name Locked
had suggested doing; he said they try to do right by their customers. They definitely did right by me.

"The work was very well done, on budget and on time. I felt that the charge for the repairs was fair and reasonable. My only reservation is that I had to schedule the work several weeks in advance because the shop was busy, as it often is. That's good because it shows that they have a good reputation and people are well satisfied with their work. However, it may be a problem for someone who needs a repair done quickly in order to get their car back on the road."

"The service is amazing they deal with all of the insurance claim issues quickly. They also rent cars on th spot so there is no hassle of trying to find a place to rent. If they do not have cars available they set you up with a discounted rate from Enterprise who will pick you up. They kept me informed often on the progress with the insurance as well as the work on the car. The car was done when they said it would be and it looked brand new.

I have gone there for all of my auto repair needs since that time. This includes routine maintence and inspections.
They are a family owned business who is always involved with helping to improve the community also.

I highly recommend them!!

"My car had been been dinged up and needed repair. I called and was able to be seen within the hour. He compared the insurance company estimate with what he would need to do the job. I left the car and was able to go about my business until the car was ready. Overall, he was able to save me some money compared to the insurance estimate, was very prompt, and extremely transparent the entire process. I am very pleased."

"This was a wonderful experience.
Pittsburgh Auto Repair Provider Name Locked
is the recommended auto center by my insurance company. My car was fixed quickly, and repairs were reasonable. As I was found not liable by my insurer, I was reimbursed for services rendered, but I thought the price (although a little high) seemed fair and justified for the amount of labor involved in dismantling my car and re-painting the parts that they were able to re-use. I would definitely recommend them for sensitive auto-body work, as they matched my color (silver) very well, which apparently is a very difficult task. they did a good job of blending to make my car like new again. If they continue to treat their customers as well as they treated me, I see them staying in business for a long time. Professional, punctual, and family owned/ operated. I did find a little glitch upon examining my car before driving it off the lot. Someone must have bumped my car overnight in the lot after it had been serviced, but
Pittsburgh Auto Repair Provider Name Locked
promptly pulled my car back into the shop and quickly buffed out the scratches. Good as new! Note to self: Always examine your car before driving it off the lot, and don't be afraid to bring anything to their attention. They will be glad to fix it!
