"The veterinarian herself is excellent. She is wonderful, kind and very compassionate. She answers every question I have ever had on email. She is very quick and" responsive in responding back to me. However, she can be a little pricey and can be on the high end. Her service, itself, is wonderful. She is great herself, but some of her staff members are friendly and some aren't.

"I had initially called a vet I found online nearby in Manayunk. Her website indicated the option for in-home visits. Unfortunately her solo practice is so busy that" she can no longer offer that option. However, the staff was kind enough to suggest a referral to Dr. . After a quick check online, I called to schedule an appointment. He called me back later the same day and was able to schedule me just a day or two later. His service is strictly in-home veterinary care, so it was perfect for my needs. I have 2 shelter rescue cats and they are near impossible to get into a carrier. As promised, Dr. called a few minutes before his arrival so I could enclose the 2 cats in a smaller space. On arrival, he gathered the required information (just as a vet would do in an office). We agreed to the 3 year rabies vaccine since the cats are so stressed out by a vet visit. He did not push "other shots" (very common at many vets, especially chains). He did instead confirm that they were indoor cats and risks for other disease are extremely low. Nor did he insist upon a 6-month or 12-month check-up (another common practice). Instead, after completing their exam, he just advised me to call if I needed any service before their next vaccination. They are both younger (ages 2 and 6) so that may be part of the reason he didn’t suggest annual check-ups. During the exams (each cat was in a separate room), I could hear him talking to the cats (just like I do). One was so stressed that Dr. had to use his net to contain him. In both cases, he managed the exam and shots. He truly is a classic veterinarian - professional and thorough in his exam. These are two of the nicest cats, but the challenge he must have faced seemed like an every day event for Dr. . highly recommend Dr. ! In addition to his professional services, his prices were extremely reasonable - less than what some folks pay when they go to a vet’s office!

Angie's Answers

?

Hi

The first answer is pretty thorough but I would like to add a few points.

First.. the type of food you are feeding your dog may be the key.  If you are using a food that is grain, rice or corn based in the first three ingredients, please change to a food that is meat or chicken based.  Many dogs are allergic to grain, rice, wheat and corn and these things are used as primary ingredients in many well known, name brand dog foods.  Secondly, all treats that have these ingredients should be cut out.  It takes weeks to months before a food change can show results so you must be patient.  Jumping from one food to another will be counter-productive.

Some dogs are so allergic to flea or other insect bites that one or two bites can cause a severe reaction.  Once the itching/scratching cycle begins, it is hard to stop it.  Benadryl is good but I suggest liquid form.  You can get it inexpensively at one of the dollar stores.  The pills take time to break down in the digestive system so you get better and faster results with the liquid. One tsp= 5cc and most dogs of average size can tolerate that much and more if the dog is a larger breed.

Allergy testing is very expensive and most dogs will test positive to some things.  That does not mean that the itching is coming from those things as many things in the environment can trigger positive test results.  Breaking the cycle of itching is primary and that can be done with prednisone ( short term and last resort after benadryl and bathing), allergy shots( same deal, last resort after easier methods).   This spring and summer have been particularly hard, weather-wise.

Good luck!

After you search for the company, you should get the "no results" page. Scroll down just a little bit, and you'll see a button and a link that say "Add this provider." Click on that to add them to the List! Thanks for the great question.
?
I'm really sorry! It looks like we made some site changes I hadn't noticed before and it made things just a little more confusing (for me, too!). We'll have to look into this to make it easier.
In the meantime, here's what you do:
1) Look for the Submit a Report button. It's yellow and on the right-hand side of the page.
2) Search for the animal cancer care clinic you're looking for. The search box should be inside a yellow bar.
3) You should see a list of potential matches, but on top of those, there should be "add a provider to the List" text in blue, which is where you'll click to get to the add page.

Let me know if you have any trouble. Sorry, again, for this being so confusing.

Today, one of the vets came to the house with one of their technicians to examine him and draw blood plus some urgent nail cutting. He gave them a bit of a struggle with all of his 16 pounds, but they managed to get blood from a very small in his leg. That is no task. I asked how often I can call to have ...More them come back and was told whenever I need them. I know a house call is an ordeal for any doctor today so I am very appreciative. A house call for any patient is a very kind thing and they are great for doing this.

First let me say that while they have always been ridiculously expensive, in spite of that, I used to love this place. Most of the staff are really nice and accommodating, There are a group of vets who themselves, have different ways of handling animals. We, along w/many of their other customers, used to always see Dr. , who ...More was amazing w/both us as nervous pet parents, as well as with our pets. He never rushed you and took time to answer all questions, always making sure you understood your options. He was worth the price of admission right there and he was the main reason we continued to pay the outrageous charges and why we stayed clients for so many years. My cat's have only gone when needed, but my dog went routinely for wellness care and medical issues. When Dr. left, we knew things were changing but our dog was older and used to SHVH so we stayed on--we then dealt w/Dr. MCCrork, who was a fine dr. and continued to be our vet up until our dog had to be put down after having a diagnosis of cancer a few months before. We weren't planning on getting another for a while but a month later, a scruffy, little, young stray dog stole our heart. We took him for a check up and shots and to discuss plans to neuter him later that month. It turned out that Dr. McCrork had now left the practice and now we saw another of their vets. We didn't care for her from the start, and the dog didn't like her much either. Also, as others have mentioned in their reviews, you seem to deal more w/the techs then the vet themselves, even though you are paying premium prices to be there. They gave him his baby shots and told us they would send an estimate along for the neuter and removal of a baby tooth that didn't drop down. When I got the estimate, it was in excess of $1,600! I immediately called and spoke w/someone to find out how they can justify over $1,600 for a neuter and baby tooth removal ($1000 of it was just the neuter) especially now that several of their good drs. had left (and another long time one, Dr. , was above to leave at this same time). The girl couldn't answer me so I asked to have the owner call me to discuss as I was a long time client and wanted to clarify this estimate. No one ever called me back. I decided that starting fresh w/our new dog was a reason to also start fresh w/a new vet office I could trust and who wouldn't overcharge for everything. We read fabulous reviews about Companion Pet Hospital, who are even closer to our home, so we called to get an estimate from them. Imagine my surprise when they, who had not already made $$ on my dog yet as SHVH just had, came back w/an estimate that was almost $1000 less, and that included also removing a loose dewclaw on my dog's paw. We decided to try them and have never looked back. They are wonderful w/our dog, the cost is reasonable and the location is just as close as SHVH. There was no longer a reason to stay w/ , which is sad because we used to really like them. Something obviously happened in the last few years for so many of their top vets to leave...it's a shame, because while I feel like I should already own a wing of their hospital by now w/the business we gave them in the past, I would have continued to pay the inflated prices had the service continued to somewhat justify the cost.

Moral of the story? doesn't care about your cats, they only care about your money. You bring in little carriers full of cash as far as they're concerned. Never taking either of my cats back here, I just can't trust them. Even before this incident, I had already stopped bringing them. If you're smart, you will too.

My wife and I run a pet rat rescue, and we had an emergency situation with one of the rescue rats that our regular vet couldn't help us with. We were referred to Dr at House Paws and she took care of the situation quickly, taking a lot of stress off my wife and I!

Extremely dedicated and they go out of their way to help you. They're outstanding and they really take good care of the animals. They carry the most advance treatments for our cats. They have way more effective treatments that you can find at pet store retailers.

. This was an excellent choice for both my BFF and myself. is my 10 yr old Rottweiler, who does not enjoy car rides at all. They are both friendly and professional, everything taking place in our home, making the visit comfortable and anxiety free. We're very appreciative to have found them.

The veterinarian was present during the entire exam, not just a vet tech. The two of them worked quickly and were very kind and friendly to my cats. After checking them out, and giving two unhappy cats a rabies shot, the vet chatted with me about how I could help my one cat weight.
The only problem I had was the wait ...More to be seen. I made an appointment for 10:30, showed up early, and still waited an hour. I only found out on my way out, through another person in the waiting room, that there had been an emergency that morning and all the appointments were late. Please inform clients when they arrive, it'll save aggravation during the wait.

I was a resident of Center City Philadelphia and used them often. Service was good and the doctors were good with the animals. Use to travel for my job and they would let me bring my dog in for boarding on off hours so I could take a flight out of town. Very good at sending reminders for checkups and vaccinations. They did everything from spaying/neutering, ...More chipping yearly checkups etc. Unfortunately, I no longer live in that part of town so I do not use them currently.
