"I bought an old home in west philadelphia at the end of December and was quickly faced with uncomfortable drafts and high utility bills once" winter hit. Honestly, I could barely keep the place warm. I scheduled a visit with , and could not have asked for a more productive experience. He arrived on time and walked through all five floors of the house with me, pointing out areas that could be improved. The list was long, but emphasized which fixes would give me the best returns for my money. He obviously knows his stuff. I like to have as much information as possible, so I had the blower door test and infrared imaging done. I'd recommend both. The following week sent me a detailed summary of everything we discussed, and I have been slowly tackling one project at a time since then. Thanks!

-Jeff R.

"The team from was very professional and responsive to my concerns. I worked closely with to define the scope of" the work. is attentive to detail -- his commitment to customer service was apparent in his flexibility and willingness to do everything necessary to make sure my experience was a good one. The team that removed the sheetrock left my house as clean as they found it -- I dreaded the mess and was surprised to find them vacuuming and using a wet Swiffer to clean up at the end of the day. subcontracts the insulation work, which is overseen by one of their own employees. The insulators did an awesome job of applying the foam between the joists. The job is messy and I would have liked them to have done a better job of draping plastic over the walls and floors. BUT, when I complained to about the residue that was left (it wasn't much, but enough for me not to want to do it myself), sent out a crew to clean up and also add additional foam to a couple of areas on the lower level that had not been part of the original scope of work. I am completely satisfied with the work that was done, and I cannot get over the difference the insulation makes. I have a four-story house and, prior to the insulation, there was a noticeable change in temperature as you went up the stairs to the top floor. The room I use as an office was too uncomfortable to work in during the summer and the air conditioning had little effect. The top floor is now completely comfortable and I am looking forward to lower heating and cooling bills. I would recommend without reservation.

Energy Efficiency Audits

One thing homeowners can do to save on energy costs is to have a home energy audit conducted. This will reveal where drafts are entering from outdoors and where insulation is ineffective. Energy auditors can also recommend upgrades in appliances to save energy.

Many homeowners experience energy loss in their homes due to gaps around windows and doors and a lack of insulation — a home energy audit can pinpoint the source

A home energy audit can help you assess how much energy your home consumes. An audit can also show you ways to improve efficiency.

Auditors typically use a variety of high-tech equipment such as blower doors which measure air infiltration; infrared cameras that scan to identify poorly insulated areas; and surface thermometers to find leaks and drafts.

Home Energy Audit reviews in Philadelphia

They did a fabulous evaluation of energy saving solutions. After the audit (which took approximately 3 hours), we were provided with an extremely detailed review of suggested upgrades and changes for our home.
Frankly, were we younger and intended to stay in this house, we would have purchased their entire package (which included new heating/air, ...More insulation, solar, etc).

Over the past few years Angie's List has grown to be a tremendous resource for my family and I in locating competent and reliable contractors. Which is why writing this review is difficult. Our adventure began in mid August of this year. After receiving a telephone call from the our audit was scheduled and all appeared fine. ...More On the date of the audit, two gentlemen arrived on time and extremely pleasant and polite. After a brief tour of the house, they identified a few questionable areas. And after a brief discussion, they proceeded. A few questions were asked in regards to actual dates of our window installations and the age of our furnace and central air conditioning unit. At the time I didn't pay it no mind. I have to admit I was a little baffled because I was under the impression that as illustrated in their promotional material a thermal gun would be used at some point to determine the efficiency of our windows and not just by the date of the installation. The only significant thing I recall them doing was the door blower test. After about an hour, they were packed and on there way. Up unto this point my opinion was mixed. It wasn't what I had imagined but it was what happened next that solidified my opinion and this review. About 2 weeks later I received a telephone call to sit down and discuss the findings. On this visit, my wife and I cancelled a family function in order to go over the results of there findings. Our hope was to collectively go over the results in hopes of having any work done prior to the change in seasons. However the focus of this discussion was on a few financial resources that are available to fund whatever work was needed. Mind you at this point we hadn't seen or discussed what work was actually needed. During the meeting we found out that a report had not been generated and that the representative didn't even have a copy to show us. After receiving numerous apologies we ended the meeting until a report could be generated and we had adequate time to review it. After waiting over a month, we finally received the report via email. It was just as we predicted. A new heating unit was recommended among other things. I was shocked! Not really. To sum it up, it cost me $75 to find out that my 15 year old heating unit would be more energy efficient if it were replaced. No kidding! Thanks but no thanks! The few suggestions they made were of projects I already had planned prior to their initial visit. A few more weeks past and we received another telephone call. At this point we had had enough and asked not to be contacted again. Back to square one.

The audit took several hours and was done very professionally. The technician explained questions we had during the course of his examination, as well as showing us some major issues.
Additionally, a very, very complete report was generated and discussed with us at a second appointment.
We did not have the suggested work done - simply because ...More we are planning to move to a 55+ community, and the ROI for several of the items was not immediate enough to benefit us (replacement for old heating/cooling system, etc). However, I truly wish we had spoken to them 10 years ago, as we would have hired them instantly.
Both my husband and I were very impressed with their presentation, as well as the techician. For those of you staying in your homes for the foreseeable future, we would heartily recommend this company!

The installer explained what could be done to install proper insulation which would have cost more than I had to spend and would have made a bigger mess so I passed. I really appreciated the professionalism and honesty of these people. The work they did do was excellent and professionally done and I think will help me feel more comfortable during the winter.

was our contact at Unique. Everyone I came into contact with from Unique was incredibly courteous, professional, and more than competent, but the gold star for patience definitely goes to ! We are first-time homeowners who bought a house with a boiler from 1957 and an aging hot water heater. We knew ...More they were going to need replacing, but we wanted to do it on our terms rather than wait for them to give out and have to make a decision quickly. And boy, did we not decide quickly. worked with us to go over every tiny detail of understanding how our home's air/heat/hot water systems worked, as well as what every possible option (solar/geothermal/condensing boilers/modulating boilers/air sealing/insulating) was for making our home more energy efficient and comfortable. It took us 10 months of hemming and hawing before we went with what I imagine was 's almost instant understanding of our needs and our budget, but he and his team were nothing but patient, professional, and courteous the whole time. came back a few times, with different sub-contractors or members of his team, to look with us at different aspects of the job and different ways we could do it (the attic insulation was something we thought a lot about) and each person he brought in was just as smart and kind and patient.
When we did move forward the Unique team faced a broken-down truck on installation day, but called us first thing in the morning to let us know was was going on. They even sent someone ahead so that we would have the comfort of speaking in person to a member of their team before we had to leave for work, and they STILL managed to get the job done on time. Our basement was left clean and without a hair out of place, and everything works like a charm.
We got other bids, and they were a little lower, but when I compared the wholesale equipment prices online it was easy to see why. (They might be a bit more expensive than other providers, but I think the quality of the equipment, the skill, and the service merit this.) I don't know a lot about heating and cooling equipment, but my guess is that Unique installs equipment they trust in the same way they clearly hire people they trust.
Also, gave us great advice about how different options we were considering would (or wouldn't) pay off over time in terms of energy savings. Unlike some other companies we considered, their financial analysis was sound. We saw some bad money math in this process, and it was math that always made the installing company's equipment look really inexpensive over time, but Unique never engaged in that kind of poor number-crunching and was honest about what was worthwhile and why. also informed us about some of the low-interest loans that are available for certain kinds of energy-efficient home projects, and worked to make sure that our project would meet those requirements.
I did a lot of reading about 'green' installation and energy-efficiency, and everything that Unique and discussed with us matched up with what I was reading online and in Fine Homebuilding magazine about industry best practices. It was clear than Unique had a deep understanding of building science and wasn't just a 'greenwashing' type of business. They have all the certifications those places recommend, and they've trained different people throughout their business in a way that shows they're interested in really using the knowledge to make smart decisions, not just in having a bunch of letters after their names on business cards.
We went with Unique in the end because we were confident that they were knowledgeable and more than competent, and because they were honest and pleasant to work with, and we knew we wanted our ongoing relationship to be with them. I worked with a lot of contractors in my past work and can say that it's clear that and the Unique team are at the very top of the list. I really can't recommend them highly enough. Go with Unique, you won't be sorry!

I had purchased the coupon for $79.00
Someone came out and went thru my house and told me my appliances were not energy efficient (washer, dryer, frig and range)
I was looking for information not so much on appliances as the condition of my home
Someone contacted me and came out to talk about the insulation of my home
I contracted ...More with for sprayed in insulation and we agreed upon a date and I was given the credit by the bank ($4000.00)
On insulation day the company sent out two (2) trucks and four (4) installers The installer informed me that my house could
not take sprayed in insulation as there was not enough space between the ceiling of the house and the roof
BUT I was still charged $250.00
Here is my question Was I charged this $250.00 because their people came out BUT were unable to do any work
It took me so long to get back to you as I have been in the hospital for several weeks (doing much better now)
Should I have been charged that $250.00 because technically they did No Work
Should I be refunded this $250.00
Looking forward to hearing from you

****Updated Review*****
They refunded my $250 dollars and I am very happy with the service now.

The representative came out to conduct what was supposed to be, what I was told, a 3 - 4 hour energy audit. He ended up staying about 2 hours, which me to believe that perhaps corners were being cut???? I'm not sure. While he spent some time in our attic, crawl spaces, and basement, and seemed to do a good analysis ...More in those parts of the house, he seemed to neglect other obvious places, i.e. the drafty doors, windows, and floor. When a second representative did a follow-up visit with the final audit report, there were several errors, omissions, and price miscalculations. The 2nd representative was completely apologetic, and said that he normally prepared reports for audits that he personally conducted, rather than presenting a report for an audit that someone else conducted. He was sorry that he couldn't speak directly to the discrepancies. This was highly unfortunate as the seems to be a reputable company, but the final report was sloppy at best. Similarly, recommendations were clearly linked to follow up services with the , and some of the prices seemed on the high side (i.e. for replacement windows). While everyone I dealt with was very nice, I felt slightly disappointed with the services overall.

The guys were very professional and thorough. They ran several tests on the house and its systems. After a couple of weeks, they returned with a report on energy efficient upgrades. They were not pushy about selling services in any way. In fact, they covered the cost of 'fixing' my water heater when they forgot to turn it back on after a test.
