"Owner,
, scheduled an appointment with us to review and discuss the basement flooding issues we were experiencing with our home. He was" extremely thorough in explaining the entire process which could be done from within the interior of the house. He quoted us a price which we found to be reasonable given the work to be done. The time-frame estimate was two days.
and his team completed the entire job in a day and a half. None of the mess came into the home and everything was cleaned up, inside and out, by the time they left. A relatively shallow trench[roughly 10-12"] was dug along the full length of the outer wall(twin house) and across the front wall. A drainage system was established consisting, in part, of a superflow silt filter, Ft. vapor
, 3000psi cement fiber, 1" micro drain and
sump pump. There has been no flooding since this installation. Paradigm provides a life-time warranty which is transferrable to the next owner. I would not hesitate to recommend
. Their professionalism and skills were equally matched by their courtesy and friendly demeanor. Mr. and Mrs.

It’s easy to do, but forgetting your crawl space can have plenty of negative consequences for the rest of your home from poor air quality to high energy bills.

Basement Waterproofing

If your basement floods, two critical questions need quick answers. First, where did the water come from. and second, how much will the basement flooding cost to fix? Here's what you need to know.

Angie's Answers

?
Mold in a basement is a common problem. My company helps people with this every day. Some of the answers you received were helpful but not all the information is correct. First, you need to eliminate the two main ingrediants that mold needs to survive. The first one is water intrusion. This is a must. I am assuming you have no water intrusion as you make no mention. The second componant that needs to be eliminated is moisture. Moisture is also humidity. Basements need to be kept airtight in the summer months. Some folks have posted that you need air flow in your basement. Nothing could be furthur from the truth. When you open any windows for example, not one micron of air goes out of the basement, Warm humid air is sucked into the basement. Houses suck air into the basement and it meets the cool surfaces and skyrockets humidity. The windows must be kept closed and a dehumidification device installed to ensure humidity stays below 60% humidity. The dehumidifier should be energy star rated and purchasing a seperate humidity guage is a must to monitor the unit's progress. We like to keep our customer's basements at 50% humidity. This eliminates the smell that is active mold spore growth. Once the water and humidity is brought under control. Remove the organic materials that have mold on them. Walls, sheetrock and studs that have been affected. Follow the advice of previous posts as you must ensure that you do not affect the rest of the home. Once removed, install new walls using as much inorganic material as possible. We also install vapor barrier over the walls and seal the floors to stopwater vapor transmission into the basement. Poly plastic is not a acceptable vapor barrier. It is not "zero-perm" and will still allow moisture transmission. It will also crack and break into pieces over the years. A PVC liner rated "zero-perm" is the correct product in this application. Depending how large the basement is and if it is sectioned off will determine the dehumidifier strength. We use the Santa Fe line of dehidifiers as they are super energy efficiant and work like a dehumidifier on steriods. I hope this helps and I wish you the best in Basement Health!
?

Where is the home located, what is the exterior wall construction and type, how is the space heated?

It could be a whole host of different scenarios that would generate that result.  It is nearly impossible to tell but I would say that most basement moisture problems are a result of bulk moisture intrusion or condensation issues.

Given the deep and hard winter this year, it could be a condensation issue that hadn't previously been shown.

The President and Vice President of the company showed up for the bid and stayed for the entire process once chosen. They explained all my options, what was required for each and how much each will cost. They cleaned out the basement debris, smoothed out the crumbling walls, treated all damp areas, installed a French drain system and pump, and also replaced the outdated broiler and thermostat. I did not have to do anything except unlock the door and write a check. They handled all the permits, trash removal and clean up. Work was completed on time and on budget. No surprises. I was very impressed with their professionalism and work ethic.

To start, we received a well laid out contract write up and eager to start the job ASAP. Once a deposit was made the job got started. I will give them credit in that the job started well in that the demolition and excavation of the backyard was efficient – the guys working worked hard and seemed to be good at the required manual labor in order to prep the backyard. This work by no means was easy given we live in the city and the excavation required the workers to dig down at least a foot over a 300 square foot area and carry all of the contents through the house.
After the excavation the installation of the patio began. On 9/30, delivery of pavers came and were the wrong pavers, and were clearly labeled as such. This error was initially blamed it on the supplier. After immediately contacting the contractor, they came over with a paver that was not a paver that we agreed to in the contract and laid it next to the incorrect paver. The contractor asked us to tell him which one was which in an effort to intentionally deceive us into thinking that the wrong pavers were similar to the ones requested. This was the first red flag. We were offered $250 to keep the incorrect pavers - we said they needed to be replaced. The next day, they admitted they made their first mistake.
The contractor agreed to return and exchange for the correct pavers which they claimed was done on this day and all of the “correct” pavers were put into the back yard. When arriving home it was obvious that not all of the pavers were
returned and that there was now a mix of the new correct pavers and still a significant amount of the old incorrect pavers. When we told the contractor, they said that they should have all been exchanged and there is a possibility that there are a few that got mixed and we missed. I am not sure how that would happen considering the pavers were all on the
Philadelphia Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
out front. They repeated again that they could still not tell the difference between the incorrect pavers and the correct ones. Picture was sent (see the picture included) comparing the two and the acknowledged they could now see the difference. The contractor
finally agreed after back and forth pictures and texts that they compounded the first mistake and intentionally did not return all of the pavers.
Fast forward to 10/3/14 – Several guys were brought onto the job to finish the job in a timeframe that was too short to do an adequate job. When arriving home they were just sweeping the gatordust and about to leave. We had to point out several things not done. It seemed as though the workers were more interested in leaving than doing a good job. The workers were clearly not qualified to be doing this type of work, which was acknowledged by the supervisor later on. The supervisor did not see “final” product and requested that his worker collect the final payment. We paid at this point – huge mistake obviously. I would not pay these guys a final payment until you are 100% completely satisfied (if that is possible).
The next day after completion, it rained at night and we emailed the contractor about flaws. There were 4 large areas of puddling due to no leveling, no tamping, and clearly improper grading. Several of the stones were not level with each other and had the appearance of settling and unevenness. The contractor admitted that no tamping was done and told us that “In regards to some of the movement, usually with very small pavers we have to rerun over them with a rubber tamper to make sure that they are completely level but these should have been large enough that it wouldn't be necessary. That was my mistake”
The contractor blamed the puddling on one of the workers “It was only because we were slightly delayed bc of switching out the pavers that we put a second guy on the job to help X
Philadelphia Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
the pavers. It's clear that X will not be laying pavers for us in the future as the areas that have to be redone were the areas that he did. He is great when it comes to our water management
systems, concrete work, and little things like tearing out your yard so that we could install the pavers in the first place but like everybody, he has his talents and his flaws.” I am not sure how (1) it is acceptable for someone that doesn’t know what they are doing to be on the job and (2) to tell the customer this and blame it on them.
Nothing was done until 10/13/14 (10 days after finishing), when a worker shows up and repairs 1 of the 4 puddle spots and nothing else. Within the repaired piece was one of the incorrect original pavers. When communicated to the supervisor that not everything was done, he noted that he hasn’t spoken to the worker and that he “just cant believe this, we have done so many of these patios and have never had to return” and that “this is becoming a nightmare”. Another week passed by with little to no responsiveness and finally agreed that workers would come back on Sunday October 19.
No one shows up Sunday morning and no response until we texted the supervisor to which he responded that they would not be coming because the homeowner on the job from the morning “added on a bunch of stupid little things during the walkthrough and with only two guys there they are going to be caught up the rest of the day”. No one
showed up that day.

The next day, workers returned to fix the remaining points which were listed on an email and given the workers when they arrived. One of the workers being the same worker that the supervisor previously told me was not experienced and caused the problem in the first place. The workers were there for a short time and left. We stopped home at lunch and the repaired
areas were even worse than before. Not only that, but the workers had to break certain pavers to lift them out and replaced them with plain concrete bricks which were totally different that the contracted ones. We communicated this to the supervisor and he noted that they must be out to lunch and they would return. Nobody returned. After no response, we asked when someone would return and were told that our contact had a family emergency and we were given the cell phone number of one of the workers to call him at this point. We called the worker and got no answer
Fast forward to 10/22, we got no response or contact from anyone so we reached out and were told that they had to take the rest of the week off to attend to personal matters. At that point we agreed that we would regroup Monday.
Monday 10/27 came with no response or contact from the company. We reached out to see when someone would be coming and were told that there was another setback and they were with the police as they were broken into and robbed. We were also told that they hired two new masons to replace some unreliable individuals which would come later that week. We never saw any new masons, only the same people throughout this job.
Tuesday 10/28 – No response from the company until we reached out and were told that they could come Thursday and that the burglary has really “screwed this week up and managed to continue my s***** month streak”.
Thursday came and we took a half day off from work to meet them at 1:30 as agreed. 2:30 came around and nobody came so I reached out to the supervisor who noted he was in a meeting that they should be there soon. 3:00 pm came and I called the worker as there was no luck with the supervisor. He said that it was already 3 and his day was over and he won’t be coming. He also was not aware of all that needed to be done. This was communicated to the supervisor who did not respond until the next morning and said they could come Saturday.
It rained Saturday so we reached out to reschedule to which we got the response “My uncle is taking over your project because clearly I’m incapable of getting it fixed correctly”
Several days passed with phone calls/texts/emails not being answered, until finally we used a different number to the workers cell phone (not the supervisor or the supervisor’s uncle) which he finally answered and said he could come out Friday November 7th. i called the worker that morning and he answered the phone and had me wait due to having a call on his other line. I never heard back from him and no one showed up.
A few days later, we receive an email from the original supervisor
(never heard from his uncle) that they would be able to come out on
Wednesday November 12th. I took off from work again on this day and they
noted they would be there between 11 and 12. The worker showed up at
2pm and ran out of time to finish the job.
When asked when they would come
out the noted that they “honestly
Philadelphia Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
’t know, we have seriously fallen
behind due to lack of manpower and management”. A call was also placed
to the worker who noted that he was ready to go and was just waiting on
materials and direction from the supervisor.
At this point we noted that the threshold to the door and the adjoining
floor were now sinking due to inadequate support when the concrete that
was there was removed and replaced with pavers which were at a lower
grade. This caused a gaping hole and sinking floor along the width of
the back door. We communicated this to the workers and supervisor who
said they could fix this.
On 11/22 (now about two months after the job was “finished”), a worker shows up to finish the job. When he left he pointed out
to us that he did not have all of the proper tools to finish leveling
out certain parts of the patio and repair the door threshold. This was
communicated to the supervisor with no response.
I realize I made many mistakes from a customer perspective, but the
professionalism, management, and expertise on this particular job were
not what we expected. I want to be fair so am strictly communicating the
facts that occurred in my experience, including photos of the work
product.

My wife and I really like this company. The sales guys who came out to scope it out and provide the estimate was super-nice, very relaxed, and professional. And we also really liked the young guys on all the crews that worked on the job. They were all so polite and pleasant, and I felt totally comfortable having them in my home. And what counts most of all is that they did a really good job. They were both fast and meticulous, as unlikely as that may seem. They obviously cared very much about properly attending to details and it shows in the final result. The only small thing that they could improve was communication between crews. They had to do some switching in crew members (understandable because this was a small job spread across parts of several days) and sales guys and the crew leaders could have done a better job in explaining what was needed to be done at the various stages. But they all communicated so well with me that this really was not an issue at all. All in all, a very impressive job by a very reputable company.

Great, They were on time, wore things over their shoes, laid down clothes to cover my floor and rugs. Shopvac and cleaned everything didn't even know they were here. Very professional and they were very nice. Didn't stop working from the time they got her. I can feel the difference in my house the very next day I came down. I set my heat on 67 and when I came down in morning it was 39 degrees outside but my house was 70 inside. I am very pleased.

The owner of
Philadelphia Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
came by to give me an estimate and to look at all the damages and location of the flooding. He was very professional and on time, we walked through the basement as he pointed out all of the spots where the water was coming from. The way the job was broken down to me I felt as like I knew what I was doing. I would recommend this company again. My whole basement was waterproofed and they added 2 sump pumps

Water was overflowing in the basement due to a clog near the mail line (close to the street). I called
Philadelphia Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
and they dispatched a tech right away. I called at 6pm, the tech arrived around 7pm. The service was completed in about an hour. He ran the cables down the line to clear the clog and also inspect the pipes with a very High-Tech camera.
Philadelphia Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
was very professional and explained everything in details. I will definitely use this company in the future if I come across this issue again.

Salesman (actually, a supervisor) was very knowledgeable and informative. He explained in detail the reasoning behind the
Philadelphia Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
approach to water management and the reason behind the choices which would be made during the job. The work was very quickly and professionally performed with no issues whatsoever. The basement was left swept and dry, and all work was done in less than one day.
The best part is that the basement no longer has any water infiltration, and the dehumidifier can finally catch up. All in all it was an excellent job, even if it cost more than we initially budgeted. I do believe we got what we paid for.
