Philadelphia Waterproofing Contractors Reviews
To sum it up, no 1" drain around the hot water heater, no drain pipe for the AC unit and I had to pay a plumber to hook up the laundry sink and check to make sure the washer connections were correct. No one came by to check on the work or offer to make an adjustment due to some work being removed however on the second copy of the work order it shows that the drain around the hot water heater being completed that is a direct misstatement.
He came out on a Friday and said he would have a quote to my email by Monday. Monday came and I checked my box all day and no quote. I emailed by appointment setting contact and no answer. I couldn't find
Either way there was no way I was going to go with a company who made disclaimers about their finished product in the quote process. And no way I would use a company I have to track down to get my quote that was promised.
Let's start with the sales guy. i pointed out that I had seen several competitor products and that one of them used a pipe that had a visible element that edged the wall. I flat out told him that I didn't like the visible part of the system. he replied the used a rounded pipe that was completely buried. Which is true, BUT he failed to mention that they instead used an ugly black plastic liner that edged the wall. An extremely visible and ugly black band now runs along the entire perimeter of my basement. I understand that it is needed to work with their system, but I was purposely deceived that there would be NO VISIBLE ELEMENTS. True, the pipe isn't visible, but it wasn't the invisible system the salesman implied by not speaking up.
To be fair at this point, I can say that they readily worked on the price with me to stay in my budget and added the french drains I wanted to go around the powder room area and the stairs and water heater. I have had water issues with these areas in the past, so I appreciated they were willing to compromise and directly address them.
Next came the install. The team that came out generally worked very hard. It was really very impressive how much they could do. My heaviest complaints were the HOW. For starteers the punctuality was HORRIBLE. They said they would be out at 9. Most days they arrived around 10. One day it was 11:30. Another it was 8. No calls to tell me. They either showed or didn't. i was also told it would take 5 days. Well day one was "prep" which took about an hour. But on day 5, they started to wrap after a very long day at 8pm and planned to return again the next day. Well, I had made arrangements with work for FIVE DAYS, not six. So they ended up tromping back down and working until it was totally done. About 9:30pm.
They did mention that normally the homeowner isn't present when they work. That the homeowner just leaves them a key, but I live in Philly and don't trust strangers in my home.
Next, be aware that the contract has a serious "cover their tail" clause in it for them. They CUT MY WALLS IN HALF for the powder room. We had discussed how to install the system around the powder room at some length. And they clim they tried to install the system as we described, but it didn't work. So instead they sliced the walls in half. And when i complained that wasn't what we discussed, they pointed to the clause that basically said they can do whatever they want to get the system in.
Well, finally the system was in and they wanted to schedule a final "follow up" inspection. We set a day and time. They didn't show. When I finally called to ask where they were, i was informed that they had changed my time. Without telling me. We set a new day/time which I then had to cancel. So of course they show up anyway even though I canceled with 72 hours notice.
Well, they never called back to do the follow up and now the system is leaking a noxious sewer gas smell.
The punchline? They kept asking "What can we do to make you happy?" When I suggested several things, they were all NO.
Reduce price/refund my money? - NO
Replace elements you destroyed? - they said yes, but it never happened
Give me a price on doing epoxy? - Never came
Can you come on Sunday? - NO
They just don't give a rats's tushy as long as the check clears.
The guy that showed up, took a look at my garage for about 1 minute, and then said the job would be about $6000. He said something about digging up around the perimeter and installing some stuff to let water have some place to go. Nothing in writing. This was not an estimate. This was a waste of time. I got the impression that this guy had someplace he would rather be and that I was inconveniencing him with an attempt to give him business.
While his off-the-cuff number was higher than I imagined for a solution to my problem, I really couldn't consider it anyhow since I have no idea exactly what I would be paying for - especially since at the end he said, "I'm not even sure that would solve the problem." Before leaving, he made some crack to the effect that people like me are stupid for buying a big old house like mine. Mind you, my house is in great condition. It's my 130-year old carriage house that has dampness. A waste of both my time and my wife's time.
