"The installer cut a live plumbing pipe when trying to remove the existing vanity. This resulted in flooding my bathroom, the bathroom floor, the hallway floor," the kitchen ceiling and the kitchen floor. The vanity was also installed completely wrong -- glue hanging off the sink, shims sticking out from the legs, the walls were damaged and he left the bathroom in a complete mess. Now, I have to start all over, get a new vanity, a new contractor and a new headache... not to mention the fact that the entire house is now a mess thanks to
, too. I have since filed a claim with
insurance. Unfortunately, the offered claim is not enough to fix the damages sustained. They have refunded the cost of the install and the vanity, but have left me with many more problems than I started out with. And, without the funds to be able to fix them. The only response I am able to get (to date) from the adjuster is to: accept the settlement or escalate the claim to my home owner's insurance. I hired
because their in-store team assured me that they screened their contractors and that they stood by their workers if anything went wrong. That has not been my experience. Once I wrap up this claim, I will never shop at or hire
for any home improvement needs. It actually would have been easier to deal with a contractor directly; then you wouldn't be bullied by a huge corporation's insurance department. I'm really disappointed by this whole situation. I feel like they have taken advantage of me. They are trying to keep the cost of the claim low -- without any regard to how much it is going to cost me to make the repairs. Then, they are going to litigate and recoup costs back from the contractor's independent insurance. Essentially, they are trying to make a profit at my expense. It's bad business. They hired the contractor; they should be doing what they can to help me fix my home. If you are a single woman trying to find contractors to do work in your home, don't go to
. Stick to independent reviews on Angie's List. Even if something goes wrong, at least you're not dealing with a billion dollar company's insurance machine...

"id IThe diswasher I was interested in apparently was discontinued. I told Marven that I had seen mention of that fact on the internet. He felt he could still" find one for me. Over the space of 3 weeks I attempted to reach Marven by phone to find out the status. Not one of my phone calls was returned. I went into the store and was told that he had called me that morning to tell me that he could not get the dishwasher but that the company had made a replacement. I was going away for two weeks and said I would be in touch when I returned to find out if indeed there was a replacement. Marven was aware that I did not have a functioning dishwasher and wanted one as soon as possible. When I returned I again called the store and again after three more unanswered phone calls to find out the status I went in to the store and requested my deposit back. He did return my deposit said he was sorry it didn't work out. I find that a return call would have been only common decency. I will not recommend this store to any one else and I will make sure that every one in my condo building will be aware of the lack of courtesy I experienced.

Small Appliance Repair

Small appliances play a big role in our daily lives. When shopping for microwave ovens, vacuums, toasters, mixers and more, choose appliances that fit your need and budget. When it comes to repairs, compare the cost of fixing to the cost of replacing the item.

Personal opinion but I will not buy another front load washing machine again.  They simply do not clean clothes as well as the old agitator style washers do.  In the summer when I am hot and sweaty I have to wash shirts at least twice, sometimes up to four times to get the stink out.  Also, while they may save water per load washed, they run a lot longer.  My old washing machine took about 20 minutes to wash a load of clothes.  The front loader takes about an hour.  What it saves on water it more than makes up for in electricity I'm sure running three times as long.  Our front loader has not leaked but it doesn't do the job for my clothes.  Maybe someone sitting in an office all day has fewer problems having to rewash clothes.

As for appliance brand recommendations I have no particular favorites.  They all seem to be disposable these days, often costing as much to repair as to replace.  Samsung has made some good appliances as of late I've heard a lot of good reviews about from customers.  I've got a customer who bought a Kenmore refrigerator when they built the house.  The ice maker has gone out and the replacement part isn't any better since it's a known defect according to the appliance repairman they had look at it.  It was just past the warranty so they didn't pay for another part to be installed that was going to fail again.  Since Kenmore is made by other companies I'm sure they aren't the only one with this problem.  We live in a disposable society.  I look at how well it works, the warranty and cost and weigh the last two of those after kicking out the ones with bad reviews on that model.

Depends a lot on your current configuration. Rough numbers, $4-7,000 for the generator including autostart and automatic load transfer circuit box and master breakers (usually all come on the generator).

Installation (with pad already inplace and gas hookup - about $500-1000.

Electrical about $800 minimum, to maybe $2500. The $800 will get you a simple transfer switch installation but if you want some household circuits to run on the generator but others not, depending on how your current wiring is run, can run to $2000 to pull existing circuits to a new panel.

The problem is that all circuits that are going to be on the generator, unless you are planning to carry the entire household load, have to go to a separate circuit breaker panel which is fed off the automatic transfer switch, so they get power from either the power company or the generator, depending on which is providing power at the moment. That means the circuits running off either source have to be disconnected from your current breaker box, extended (commonly) over to the new box, and hooked up. All other circuits stay on your current breaker box, to run only off the public power when it is on. If the generator is large enough capactiy for your entire house load of course it costs more, but this circuit termination point moving is not needed, so electrical work drops way off to basically a connection box with the transfer switch.

A couple of words of advice - pay attention to weather protection, fire barrier between the unit and the house (including issues of overhead decks that can catch fire), automatic fire shutoff/suppression, and trickle charging from house power to generator battery. Also read CAREFULLY your power comopany rules on generator installation (commonly requires their signoff), any code restrictions on generators and noise in your area, and if your insurance rate will go up. (It definitely does if you have a fuel tank, I don't know if it does with natural gas-fired generators.)

Welcome to the world of Google ! Google this search phrase - dual fuel downdraft convection oven range

You will find a number of brands that make dual-fuel ranges with convection oven - Jenn-air of course, and GE, Bosch, Kitchenaid, Maytag, LG, Samsung, Wolf, Frigidaire, Thermador, Viking all sellin the US. Almost all major brands make this a dual-fuel convection oven range - find model(s) you like, then start checking with local vendors to see who sells them locally - the big home improvement box stores and Sears, Best Buy for starts.

However, the bad news - according to an article I found, only Jenn-Air still makes downdraft stovetops, although I did find one blog notation about a person buying a European Viking with downdraft. Basically the fan capability in downdraft ranges is just not enough to capture the odors and grease and steam coming off a cooktop, so the other brands all dripped it and recommend an over-stove powered vent hood. Most downdraft units had about a 1/10HP fan that pulled about 300 cfm - the same as a modern bathroom fan,, when to actually cause a reverse (downward) airflow over a range requires more like 1000 cfm or more causing a downward airflow of about 10-20 mph - which would make for a little private windstorm around your stove. People also found they did not like the reduced oven size to accomodate the fan unit.

Thermador and Dacor and probably others make behind the range vent units that stick up a foot or two and pull some of the fumes from the rangetop, though reviews say their performance is iffy and basically only affects the rear burners.

My recommendation - go with an overhead vent hood and eliminate the greasy buildup and high humidity in the kitchen that go with downdraft ranges - you will also pay about half a much as for a Jenn-Air downdraft unit.

I happened to find
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
via Craigslist (selling the nicely reconditioned washers & dryers he has in stock,) and came across
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
C's glowing Yelp review when I did my research.
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
was absolutely right -
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
was prompt, professional, and his products are great! I paid $410 including delivery for a reconditioned washer and dryer for my house, and couldn't be happier. He guarantees his reconditioned items for three months, and he seems very good at what he does overall. Give him a call if you're looking for a way to skip the laundromat on a budget - you'll be thrilled! :-D

I went to
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
in early August 2014 to pick out a washer and dryer. One of the sales associates assisted me immediately. I stated that I was only interested in the GE line of washers and dryers. He showed me all of the various models that were available, researched a model that I previously had to show me a similar model since it was no longer made. Associate recommended that I wait a couple of weeks before purchasing because he thought that there would be additional rebates available if I waited. I waited the 2 weeks and sure enough I received an additional $200 in rebates. I scheduled the delivery and they were able to accomodate me when I called and requested a delivery date change to the next day. Everything was delivered in the window specified. The delivery guys even went above and beyond to get the washer and dryer into my basement. They had to remove 2 doors in order to get the washer and dryer in and then put the doors back ensuring that they both worked appropriately. They then called to find out the time that the gas connect service man would be arriving. The gas connect service man was running behind schedule but called before his window was closed to alert me to the delay. After he connected the gas to the dryer he took the time to answer some questions and showed me where my gas shut off valve was.
Overall great service from the store associates, to the delivery guys, and to the service men.

My refrigerator conked out and I needed a new one pronto. Fortunately it was 4th of
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
weekend so there were many sales. Once I decided what I wanted it was easy to shop around for the best deal. I had never shopped at
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
before and would have overlooked them except I was finding it difficult to get a quick delivery of the refrigerator model I wanted. I keyed in my choices online and their shopping cart deducted an additional $50 from the price of the refrigerator making them even more competitive than Best Buy.
I called the store to find when I could take delivery and
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
told me Wednesday which was earlier than Home Depot and Best Buy. When I got to the store the numbers were higher. I showed
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
printouts from their shopping cart and entered the numbers in a new shopping cart transaction on my iPad to show how the shopping cart automatically deducted the additional discount. I want to point out that
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
seemed very new and he was struggling with the store's information systems.
When I got home I came across many negative reviews of
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
service and started to second-guess my decision to buy from them. The negative reviews suggested that they had problems with delivery and service.
They promised to call the night before to tell me the delivery window. I did not receive any phone contact that night and grew concerned. I called the Installation Department the next morning and discovered that they were unable to reach me because they had transposed two digits of my phone number. I was told the items were on two different trucks. The refrigerator, which only needed to be plugged in was delivered separately from the microwave and dishwasher which were with the contractor.
About 20 minutes after my phone call, the contractor called to confirm his window and give instructions to empty the cabinet under the sink ahead of time to access the plumbing.
The refrigerator delivery arrived first. The two delivery men were friendly, professional and courteous. They removed the old unit, and removed the door of the new unit so it could fit through my entrance. They brought it in, removed packaging, hooked it up and reattached the door.
The contractor called two more times to keep me advised of his progress. Although running behind, his arrival was still within his window. He, too, was courteous and professional. It took approximately 90 minutes to deliver and install the two items. He also removed the packaging and cleaned up after himself.
I was very pleased with the installation service I received and the pricing offered. I would shop there again and recommend them, but now I've also learned to go online first and arm myself with printouts from the shopping cart and scrutinize numbers carefully.

When our 30-year-old washing machine broke, I went right to Angie's List and found
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
. All I knew was that I wanted an energy-efficient machine, I would have to get a smaller-than-average size because of the sharp corners and narrow basement doorway, and I wanted to spend as little time as possible trying to figure out which machine to buy.
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
was excellent. I called and told them the dimensions of the doorway and they recommended a couple of machines. Delivered and hauled the old machine away as efficiently and professionally as could be, even going so far as to break the old machine apart when it didn't fit up the narrow basement stairs. The price of the machine, because of its unusual size and energy efficiency, was high, but
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
' price was no higher than any other that I found on the internet, and the pleasant experience that I had with them and the driver/deliverymen was worth any minor extra cost. Will definitely call them again when my dryer breaks!

The staff, from the office manager
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
to the owner
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
and his 2 colleagues effected a prompt inspection, resolution plan and reasonable estimate for their work. They executed the project promptly and efficiently. They even added color pigment to the concrete to match the existing color of my deck at no additional cost and cleaned up like they were never there! Their professionalism and knowledge of my job and toward me was commensurate. Most of all.... NO LEAKING! I would recommend them in a heart beat!

They delivered a damaged
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
. They deliberately took it out of their scratch and
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
warehouse. The game they run is they deliver a damaged
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
then tell you they will discount the
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
that they deliver. So we sent it back and then it took them forever to get a real new one out to us. Then, in dealing with the bill they must have confused us with somebody else because they charged us for somebody else's purchase; the bill had somebody else's credit card on it. They also tacked about $90 bucks on our card because they confused our bill with someone else. We finally got it resolved and that was it; we are not going to use them anymore. After this was over we found a website that lists all the complaints about this company. I will not use them again in the future.

As a landlord, I've been using these guys for years.
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
is a great place to get a cheap refurbished used refrigerator or
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
. You can usually find something good there for around $100 to $120. I believe that price includes delivery to a first floor location. For every floor above the 1st floor (if there's no elevator) it's an extra ten bucks. They will also take your old appliance away. I have 10 units and they all have stoves and refrigerators from
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
. They tend to last a good long time for used refurbished appliances -- maybe 5 or 6 years on average. This is so much cheaper than paying ridiculous prices for brand new appliances, plus costly service plans, plus a $60 service fee even though you have the plan. The appliances look pretty good, too -- sometimes there's a ding or a little stain in the finish, but they are passable. I don't think
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
does much repair work in people's homes, but for bargain sales they are the best! Ask for
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
-- she's nice.

After the big box places told us that there was no way to get a gas dryer through the narrow entrance to our West Philly basement, we started to look at smaller stores (why didn't we do this in the first place?!). We went to
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
, where the saleswoman took one look at us and said, "Your door is too small to fit a dryer, right?"
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
sells Speed Queens, which are designed to be disassembled, moved in, and then reassembled. It was an easy decision, especially as
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
was able to get our dryer in on Tuesday after a late Thursday afternoon order. It seems that if I had not required the dis/reassembly, it would have arrived the next day! I was kept up-to-date on the status of the order. The delivery and removal went off without a major problem, though they couldn't hook up the dryer to the vent because my old vent tubing was plastic, and hence *way* out of code (it would have been nice if they had checked with me beforehand about that, though they *did* check with me about having a proper gas shut-off valve installed). I was able to easily purchase and install a new metal vent tubing myself the next day; the company might consider keeping a spare tube in their truck for this eventuality. Even so, I would definitely use
Philadelphia Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
again.
