As a locksmith, what are some of the services you provide?

Robert Kerr: "We rekey locks, change and provide new keys, and service and repair automobile locks."

Greg Kowal: "We do security for businesses and residences. We do hardware installation, lock changes and safe work."

Jim Step: "We do residential and commercial work, open safes and cars, rekey locks and do master key systems."

Are there any types of jobs you won't do?

Kerr: "We won't do window locks."

Kowal: "We don't do vehicles."

Step: "We don't do electrical work."

How do you charge for the job?

Kerr: "We charge a service call and by the cylinder."

Kowal: "We have a flat service fee."

Step: "We just charge a flat rate."

What's the average fee for customers locked out of their house, their car or their safe?

Kerr: "A house lockout would be about $65. A car would be anywhere from $60 up, depending on the vehicle and the difficulty. Safe work is usually done by the hour, and the price varies."

Kowal: "Houses are usually between $68 and $75. Safes depend on the type of safe. It can run anywhere from $40 to $400."

Step: "Homes and cars are usually between $55 and $85. Safes range from $75 to $1,000, depending on what type of safe it is."

Are you licensed, bonded and insured?

Kerr: "Yes."

Kowal: "Definitely."

Step: "Yes."

Before you start a job, do you require some type of identification?

Kerr: "We do on lockouts, and we tell them that over the phone."

Kowal: "If it's a home or business lockout, we always check for a driver's license with a correct address. If it's suspicious in any way, we would decline the job."

Step: "For lockouts, yes. For rekeying and things like that where people are already in the house, generally no."
