"Lisandro is AMAZING! I was remiss in not writing a review on my initial service with
so allow me to back up and start there. It was mid-May 2014... I had" been out of town for work and when I returned my A/C was blowing lukewarm air. It was just starting to get really hot so I searched Angie's List and found
and saw that they had GREAT reviews. So... I gave Lisandro a call and he came out within a couple of hours and figured out that my outdoor compressor unit was DEAD! My house is 25 years old and so is the HVAC system so I assumed I'd have to replace the whole thing. But Lisandro presented an alternate solution. He suggested that he could locate a salvaged compressor unit that was only a few years old that would work with my system. My Dad was visiting from MI and was there when Lisandro gave me my options and he believed that the salvage unit would be a good option for me so I went ahead and said yes. Lisandro spent a day locating a unit that would work with my system and got it installed within a few days of my initial call. He was very responsive to my calls and emails, he was willing to explain what he was doing while he was doing it and he is just overall a really friendly and nice guy who KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING!!! He won't steer you wrong. The unit has been doing a fantastic job -- keeping me cool all summer long! Fast forward to October... again I return from work out of town and find that there is water damage on the wall under the main air handler unit in my garage. I email Lisandro late on a Friday afternoon with pictures of the damage and ask if he can come out and take a look at it early next week. It is cooling down so I decide that to prevent further damage I'll just turn the unit off and open up the windows. Lisandro responds within a few hours and says he will come out on the weekend if my schedule will permit that. Of course, I say yes. He gives me a one hour window and arrives within that time frame. He finds my issue immediately... a clogged drain and he fixes it w/in an hour for under $200!! Lisandro really cares about his customers. He will not give you any "corporate run-around" with a different technician for every job... you will get personalized service from a qualified professional!!

"We hired the company to install a new A/C unit, model ComfortMaker 2-15 SEER 3- ton heat pump, in the end of 2010. Problems surfaced immediately. First, we found out that the owner" of the company was in violation. The unit was installed without permit. We had a surprising inspection notice from the Orange County Division of Building Safety (apparently, an observant neighbor had alerted them). We are no experts, so we thought everything was done properly. Eventually, the required paperwork was completed. Ever since, we’ve had problems with various parts. Motors would fail, the A/C would suddenly stop cooling, so we had to call for repairs several times a year. We didn’t have so many problems with the old unit we had before. While some of the parts were under warranty, labor, of course, and service fees were not, so we ended up paying at least $150.00 for each visit. When the blower motor failed, for example, we had to pay $199.00 even though parts were under warranty. Over time, the money adds up. More recent events: The A/C stopped working a month ago, and I had to pay around $180.00. The problem was fixed. Just a few days ago, the unit stopped working again. We called
, who told us to leave a message on his voice mail. No further communication occurred. The next day, a technician simply showed up without even calling in advance to see if someone will be home. He said that a part was broken, so he had to go someplace and get it. He told me that the part is covered under warranty, but labor was not. He did not quote any specific price. (A different company that came later diagnosed that the module that controls the variable speed motor had failed.) At this point, I questioned him about why the units fail so often. I expressed a concern that we had been paying a lot for service fees. I have to stress that I did not say I refuse to pay. In fact, I explained that we’d rather communicate our concerns to the owner. Before the technician left, his last words were that he was coming back in “an hour and a half with the part.” I remember this because I asked about a clear time frame. I had to leave at a specific time. Hours passed. The technician never showed up. Nobody called. I
’t know what communication passed between the technician and
. It doesn’t matter, however, because when I finally called
to inquire about the part, he said that he had told his worker “to pack his tools and not come back.” I had complained about payment. Yes, I did voice a concern about that and the need for frequent repairs.
refused to listen to me, and he merely stated he would not serve our account any longer. Well, that was fine by us. At this point, we’d wasted enough time and money. What was particularly disconcerting was that neither
nor his worker even bothered to let me know that nobody would be showing up. I juggle work and other responsibilities, so time is most essential to me. Bottom line, we have had problems ever since they installed the unit. The lack of clear communication, questionable work ethic, and a complete lack of consideration for the client (showing up without notice, leaving us hot and humid without even a
phone call from the owner to check what’s really going on) are certainly not professional. I would not recommend Cooling Systems, Inc.

The furnaces are both good. They come with the same warranty. More importantly it is the installation process that is most important. Both of these furnaces need to be setup properly as they both tend to be particular if installed incorrectly.

I will say that I am a York Certified comfort Expert. I have in the past been a Trane Dealer. I used to dislike York, but since Johnson Controls bought them, they have improved drastically. Since Ingersollrand bought Trane they have improved slightly, but I am not impressed.

The differences in both are as follows (these are both top of the line form theier manufacturers):

The Trane has a 95% Efficiency The York is 98% efficient.

The Trane has 2 stages of heating the York has 100 stages of heating.

Both systems have variable speed motors with different modes, Trane has Comfort R and York has ClimaTrak, both pretty much the same.  Setup of the dipswitches/jumpers are the most importnant and vary by system size and your climate.

The Trane has an external trap and is either upflow or downflow. The York is 4 way compatible with an internal trap.

The Trane has a nicer furnace cabinet, but most of the time the furnace is hidden and is irelevant.

Some Trane units are made in Monterey, Mexico. All York units are Made in Witchita, Kansas or Norman , Oklahoma. (some interanl components are made overseas in both units, but all Yorks are assembled in USA).

Depending on your installation companies relationship, then the support they get from the manufacturer differs. I have found that if you buy alot of Trane you get good service, if you do not, then service is not that great. The same may be said about York, but so far I have great support from York. York will work with the smaller companies more than Trane will (my opinion).  Again, I have sold, installed and repaired from both manufacturers so I have knowledge in both. I also used to dislike York. If you are in the trade, I invite you to look at the new York line of systems. You will may be impressed.

I think both products offer the best furnaces available, compared to other brands.  Depending on who installs it is most important as well as their relationship with the manufacturers.  Both good products.  I hope that helps.

No one can tell you what another contractor will charge. There is no one set price for heating and air-conditioning equipment installation. One of the major factors that affect your price is its size. No one can tell you what size equipment you’ll need without doing a load analysis on the home. That calculation essentially determines the insulation value of the home, i.e... What is the heat gain of the home, what are some other prevailing factors like room equipment, solar gain, or natural shading? You can compare prices between contractors to gauge what your cost would be between contractors, but this is a little tricky to do. Let me explain a little more. Let's say you get an installation quote of $5050.00 from contractor “A” who employs three technicians and operates two trucks. He also runs his operation from home. Contractor “B” charges $6200.00 to do the same job but has 10 employees and 5 trucks. He works out of a rental unit and offers his people a little bit better of a benefit package to recruit highly motivated workers. Everything else being equal (equipment size, SEER rating, furnace efficiency, brand name and additional material—other things that affect the price), is either one of these contractors defrauding you? No, their overhead is different. All these things play into a company’s labor rate. Just be aware of your expectations when it comes to performing any kind work in your home. If you want to pay an extremely low-inexpensive price below the average installation cost in your area then you are highly likely to get the quality of work that comes with that cost. Remember cheaper is not better!

?
Yes Jupiter. It depends on the severity of the situation, is the mold encapsulated in the insulation. If yes, than replace [insulation] it with new. Is it on the casing of the heater? If yes, clean it with a mold neutralizing metal cleaner. It's not a matter of finding something or someone to clean or address the existing mold. It's a matter of finding a contractor to rectify what is causing the mold grow. It's coming from excessive moisture in the air-handler unit. I can say with 100% surety you’re dealing with poor airflow and/or incorrect equipment sizing! Either issue will cause excessive icing of the evaporator coil, which leads to excessive condensate water in the system. The condensate will eventually overflow the drain pan leaving stagnant water in the air-handler housing, which leads to mold growth. I would not let any contractor do any kind of temporary repair, add any device like a UV light or air-cleaning product until the aforementioned is corrected. I talk a lot about this in my videos and on my website. It is the result of improper system design from unqualified contractors. There is a reason why some guys cost more than others, and this is one reason why!

?
The only thing of importance, is the hvac professional you choose to use. Alot of manufacturer's pieces are built relatively the same, and will last about the same amount of time. The thing that matters most is what you can not compare between companies, and that is the installation. Purchasing a system is not like purchasing a car, where no matter where you buy it, they are all the same. Each installation is different, and usually what you are paying for is the level of expertise, and quality of the installation, the company who will actual give you the warranty, and the comfort that you will receive. Manufacturers warranties disappear every day. They always have a loophole where they can get out of paying, but your local dealer wants to keep you happy for future work, and to protect his reputation in the communiy. Look up 4 year old Nordyne and Goodman warranty problems. Choose the HVAC professional first. It will cost you the least in the long run. I have had to totally redo plenty of installations that were just performed because of an uncomfortable customer, and a system that keeps breaking down. The equipment is only as good as it's installation, and over 70% are not installed correctly.
?
I think maybe you are confusing SEER, which is an efficiency-related rating (higher SEER means more effective use of the electric power used to compress the gas), and TONS rating, which is a measure of the total cooling power of the system. (Tons used to mean how many tons per hour of ice was used in evaporative cooling building systems - a Refrigeration or Cooling Ton equals 12,000 Btu/Hour of energy exchange. A BTU, which is another antique measure but still used, is the energy needed to change the temperature of a pound of water one degree fahrenheit. Unfortunately, because of varying humidity and evaporation, this is not readily related to house air heating or cooling without a lot of assumptions and some computations. Relating this to today's world - the Manuals BayAreaAc referred to account for all these energy conversions and determine an estimated cooling (or heating) requirement for your specific house. The type of construction, solar exposure, general climatic conditions such as average temperatures, humidity, and hottest and coldest normal ambient temperatures and desired inside temperture are all taken into account in the more sophisticated versions of the analysis, so there is no "standard", though a rough old rule of thumb was about 1 ton of cooling per 500SF of house. Obviously, this was a WAG only because it did not account for insulation, type of roofing, whether you live in Alaska or Miami, etc. The ACCA manuals do a very simplified form of evaluation to arrive at a "design", which generally will be adequate. OF course, highly precise calculations are not really needed because A/C units generally come in even ton ratings - so if you are at say 2.6 ton requirement you will be getting a 3-ton unit anyway. SEER ratings are not a direct measure of efficiency, but the relative difference between ratings gives you good idea of the unit's relative efficency in using electricity - so a 16 SEER should be about 19% more efficient (so roughly comparable lower electricity bill) than a comparably sized 13 SEER unit. 13 SEER is the lowest efficiency currently allowed to be built for general use, 19 SEER is about the highest efficiency made by pretty much all manufacturers, and about 25 SEER is the highest rated though very pricey shelf-item units, though special construction custom units can reach about 30 SEER. Note however, like any government sponsored rating, much of it is hooey when you get down to it - for instance, SEER ratings are figured based on 80 degree inside air temp and 82 degrees outside, when that is far from the normal case of mid to low seventies inside and high eighties or above outdoors. This makes the absolute SEER rating meaningless, but relative numbers still have meaning in comparing units. Note these efficiency ratings are for conventional air conditoners and heat pumps working in ambient air conditions. Ground sourced Geothermal or lake/river exchange cooling units, though initially more expensive in most cases, can greatly exceed the air-exchange unit efficiencies because they are exchanging heat with cold natural water rather than with a high-temperature outside air, and instead of continually compressing a gas are just circulating cold water. I worked on one geothermal cooling project which had almost infinite efficiency, which of course makes no sense - but the only power was for sensors and a control valve as the water flow was single-pass under gravity flow, so no power was used to circulate the water.

The Long Version
The air conditioner wasn't cooling the house properly. Air was blowing but it was getting
Orlando HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
. I noticed the fan on the condenser unit wasn't running and experimented with running the A/C for a while. I could get the fan to run but it wouldn't last. After running a while it would halt and then run only ten minutes at a time or not at all. The compressor still seemed to be running and was making noise though the fan was not running. I looked inside and noticed a dead lizard on some cables so I googled it and found some mentions of capacitor failure and so I was thinking maybe that was the problem. I couldn't access that area to do anything about it, though, since the unit cover is screwed on with those tiny flanged hex cap screws (I don't have the tool to unscrew that) and anyway I didn't want to mess with high voltage electrical stuff and stuff I wasn't that familiar with.
Inside everything was fine. In the past, maybe a year or two ago, I had a blockage in the drain pipe (basically rust from the evaporator coil clogging up the drain
Orlando HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
and activating a cut-off switch that shuts down the system: thermostat goes

) and I fixed that problem by pouring some bleach in the drain
Orlando HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
(should have used vinegar but oh well). So, I had familiarity enough to know that wasn't the problem here: the thermostat was still on and the system was still trying to cool, it was just failing. I had hoped that I could have someone come out and look at the condenser unit since that's where I thought the problem was and because my house was rather messy and I hadn't had a
Orlando HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
to clean it since I had been out of town.
I had to call several companies on Angie's List before I could get a response and sometimes the companies wanted to run a credit check or charge me ~$90 just to come out (i.e. pay first). I wasn't very happy with the responsiveness, phone tag, and that sort of power tactic. However, I eventually found a company that was more pleasant to deal with and it would cost $79 but they weren't bullying me about paying up front or doing a credit check, so I gave them a shot.
The first company (*NOT* the one I'm reviewing, just background) came out and the guy right away wanted to come inside my house. I was sort of annoyed with this since I had told the girl on the phone that the problem was with the unit outside and didn't want anyone to come into my messy house. But whatever if he can fix the problem in the end, that's all that matters, right? So, he did a rather thorough diagnostic of everything inside and outside (as far as I could tell). There are lots of probes and multimeter type devices, very much an electrical focus as opposed to a mechanical inspection, which, why not, I sort of figured my problem might be electrical. This technician did puncture a hole or two in the plaster shaft above the air handler/blower and I thought that was a bit weird to do without asking first but probably it's not a big deal (small hole).
Unfortunately, the air conditioner worked fine for as long as he was there and none of his diagnostics could detect any sort of problem. I asked about the lizard and was told that could not be the problem and that the capacitor looked fine. The refrigerant looked fine. No problems. The temperature delta between intake and output was right, the house was cooling.
Then, after he left and I had paid my $79, the house got down to around 83/84 (from 89+) and then slowly started getting
Orlando HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
again, similar to the day when it first failed. I quickly suspected the fan since it was my initial theory and since he really didn't check the fan itself just the wiring and capacitor. Sure enough, the fan on the outside condenser unit was not running in tandem with the inside unit. I figured they should always be running together just sort of common sense. I did still hear a noise outside that I thought must have been the compressor unit. This does no good if it's just going to blow hot air and I read online that having the compressor run without the fan running to cool it off can fry the compressor and I didn't want to rack up more expenses than necessary here so I decided to turn it all off and just suffer the heat until I finally got the problem solved.
So, I decided to try a second company (the one being reviewed here),
Orlando HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
. I didn't want to pay for emergency repair to have them out ASAP and opted to suffer the heat for three or four days. So, it's hard to say on Responsiveness or Punctual because I could have paid to have them come right away. I think "A" is appropriate since they did answer the phone right away and could have sent someone basically as soon as I wanted, I was just okay with waiting a few days. I don't recommend that for people at risk of heat stroke.
In a lot of ways the service performed was very similar to the first company. The technician wanted to come inside first and do all the same sort of electrical probes and diagnostics. I wanted to say "don't bother" and explain about the prior technician but I didn't want to bias it so I just went with it. He asked at one point (I think when he saw the hole in the plaster) if I had it "tuned up" before and technically I hadn't, it was a diagnostic before, so I said no. I didn't want to bias it. The diagnostic was a bit different but mostly similar from what I could tell. The differences were that this technician tested some additional piece on the blower itself, didn't need to spend as much time inside, and wasn't able to diagnose the refrigerant charge (for legitimate reasons of humidity - conditions were different) with 100% certainty. Also, he re-used the hole in the plaster, plugging it when done.
So, in a way this diagnosis also failed to find the problem, but I was insistent this time about the fan halting and explained it in enough detail that he said he could either do a quick fix of lubricating the fan bearings/bushings (which may not be a permanent solution) or replace the fan motor, but he'd let it be up to me. I was relatively confident from having gone through the whole diagnostic process before and having the fan fail later in the day, so I said to go ahead and replace the fan motor. Yes, it was expensive, but that was what needed to be done, in my opinion. The cost of the diagnostic would go toward the cost of the motor so that was nice.
The fan motor was tough to get off but the technician had enough tools and tenacity to get it off. He remarked that it seemed wrong when taking it off - too hot or something. I'm not sure we'll ever really know what exactly was wrong with it, but I have a nice new one now. There are some wires that the new one has that had to be looped around the fan grate/shield (?) and the screws were a bit long and so it looks a little goofy from what it's probably supposed to look like, but it works and I don't really care that much about the aesthetics of my unit so long as it works. Maybe it's a minor risk that a landscape technician might somehow clip one of the exposed wires if he's careless, but I'm not too worried about that.
The result is that my system now works, now that the fan motor was replaced. I was wrong about the lizard and the capacitor, but I was right that it was the outside unit, and specifically the fan, that was the problem. I had been thinking it might also have been refrigerant but it looks like that wasn't the problem and it definitely was the fan.
The diagnostics were unfortunately not good enough to determine the problem. I sort of wish the companies would have taken my suggestions more seriously from the outset, but I can't complain too much because in an effort not to bias them too much I wasn't very insistent at first and let them do all the tests just in case. It was also a learning experience for me and I can't claim to have known the exact problem from the outset. The more the tests ruled out, the more confident I became, and so it was really a process of elimination. I can't even say the second company was better than the first because the diagnostic process was so similar in both cases and in both cases didn't quite find the problem. The difference was that I was more insistent the second time because I had gone through the process once before. The technicians were very knowledgeable in both cases and explained some details that I didn't have straight. For example, the fan does not run *completely* simultaneously with the inside unit and can take a while to kick on, so it's possible that some of my checking of it was just not accounting for a natural delay. Also, at least for my unit, I would probably not have fried my compressor even without the fan running because there is a shut-off mechanism once it reaches a certain temperature (unless that mechanism also fails). So, I was probably more careful than I needed to be in turning off the system when the fan wasn't running (though it does no good to blow hot air so it didn't matter either way).
I think if my problem had been more normal, the diagnostics would have picked it up (lots of times it is the capacitor or the drain line). However, you should know that the normal (industry standard?) diagnostic process is not 100% thorough and may sometimes rely on accurate and relevant information from the customers. Even though I couldn't prove anything was wrong while they were there, I had to take a
Orlando HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
of faith and say "please fix this part that I think is bad". This is a good problem to have, by the way. The opposite problem is when people sell you things you don't need, replace what isn't broken, and so forth. There was none of that here. If anything, they were scientific and very

in recommendations.
Good experience overall. Learned a lot. Would hire again. Tech was friendly and professional.

My air conditioning decided to die two months out of warranty in the middle of August on a weekend. My husband and I were in a rough spot and had resorted to using stand and ceiling fans. Temp in our home was approaching 90 for several days. Our regular handyman referred us to
Orlando HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
. I was very impressed with this company. They even called us on a Saturday to get information from us. By Monday evening we had cool air. Options were explained. All charges were transparent. They worked very hard so we only had to replace the outside unit, while other a/c places said we needed both. They were open with the model number of the equipment and I was able to research to make sure I was getting a fair deal - We were! I can't say enough good things about

They arrived on time and finished up as expected. There was one glitch that their inspector noticed before he came to start up the system. However, he called another technician in to help him and they stayed until the problem was corrected and the A/C was running. They knew it was hot and didn't want me to have to spend the night in the heat while waiting for someone to come out the following day. I was very impressed with everyone from the sales rep to the technicians performing the job and would not hesitate to recommend them. We comparison-shopped for prices with three companies and although their price was approx $150 higher, we felt we were getting a better A/C unit (Carrier vs

Our experience with

He also promptly answered all our questions as we compared all our choices. We also talked with 3 other contractors, and ultimately decided

system with variable speed air handler and wifi connected thermostat for downstairs, and a 2 ton (same configuration) for upstairs.
We made the decision on Friday, and had the systems installed the following Tuesday. The first member of the crew arrived at 7AM, right on time. The rest of the crew was there before 8.

When they were done, everywhere they were, inside and out, was completely cleaned, and both systems were working great. we've had the new units for a month now, and we are very happy with them. The compressors and fans are so quiet, we can't even tell when the systems are running. And they do so much better at controlling the humidity in the house that we feel much more comfortable. I've even set the thermostat a little higher, and it still feels comfortable.

Orlando HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
has a good reputation, but good luck getting them to come to your house. I paid $199 for the Residential Maintenance Agreement which includes "priority" on service calls and 10% discount. We have not gotten either. On three separate repair calls in the past two months, they have simply lost our information. In other words, we called and placed a request for service but never heard back again. This past time, I called after one week and was promised to be contacted by end of day, but nothing. Unfortunately, they started some repairs on our a/c unit, but have left us hanging. To get a new service company in at this time, means even more money and time after we have already invested close to $1,000 in repairs w/
Orlando HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
. Their senior service technicians are very knowledgeable and extremely nice people, but seemed to be overworked and this is part of what I believe leads to unfinished repairs. As with any a/c service company, if you get a junior person, they don't have a clue as to what is wrong and that accounts for two visits and wasted time and money. Based on our experiences, I would not call
Orlando HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
to initiate future repairs and that includes plumbing with which we also had a bad experience.
