" I attended the second appointment with Dr
for the back conditions that my daughter was diagnosed with. At the first he recommended physical therapy to" strengthen her core, which we did for approximately 8 weeks. The physical therapist also said that her hips were weak, which could impact the core movement and back pain, so he worked on that too. Her back improved slightly, but that was the prediction from Dr
. When I informed him of what the physical therapist had said and what he was working on, Dr
actually laughed audibly at me and said, "Okaaayy?" The student working with him actually got wide eyed and seemed to acknowledge that his behavior was out of line. I was stunned silent and did not know what to say. He proceeded with the appointment and left the room to return after x-rays were taken. When he left the room, my daughter asked me why he laughed at me, to which I responded, "I'm not sure but it certainly was not very respectful." Upon his return, I decided I would bypass the disrespect and get as much information about my daughter's back as possible, knowing that I would not be returning. He gave us big words and details that obviously mean nothing to the average person, and then asked me if I had questions. My response was, "No, not at this time." When he asked my daughter if she had questions, she responded, "Yeah. Why did you laugh at my mom?" He kind of smirked and said, "I didn't laugh at your mom," and discounted what she had asked. I just put my hand on my daughter's knee signaling her to let it go, which she did. We left the appointment knowing that we would not be returning, despite his vast knowledge of orthopedics. This was unfortunately not the only experience like this with Dr
, however. My oldest daughter was also under his care for scoliosis years back and he was the same brief, egotistical self at that time. We only returned to him on the recommendation of our primary care physician and the fact that he is knowledgeable. I actually put his 'importance' ahead of my daughter's instinct about him - I will not make that mistake again. He was sure to list off all of the 'well-known' people he had fixed over the years and said he could put us in touch with one of them to ask questions, which we declined. I have no doubt that Dr
is a competent and knowledgeable doctor and that his technical skills are probably good, but his 'bedside' manner in this case left very much to be desired. I cannot have faith in a doctor who audibly laughs at a parent and belittles them, especially in front of their daughter. Although I left without any type of anger or incident, I thought I needed to make people aware of what had happened. My daughter's back issues are probably on the 'mild' side (as he put it) of things that he 'normally' deals with, but she is a person whom I love dearly and want the best for despite what he sees in his office. Maybe if your orthopedic issues are extreme or 'less mild' he might seem like a savior, but in this case, all it turned out to be was a high priced consultation which left me feeling stunned. If you are looking for a competent doctor whom will belittle you in front of your child, and one whom will be sure to point out that you are not an orthopedic doctor, he is the one for you. My family, however, will be searching for other competent doctors whom actually respect people.

"My son was born with a club foot and we were referred to Dr.
at
... being a new mom and having to go here with a 2 week old, I assumed" that everything would go fine, but i was wrong. After 8 weeks, my husband and I removing the casts each week (what am I paying them for if I have to do it), and almost my entire maternity leave, Dr.
said my sons foot looked good, didn't need surgery and the "brace" (yes in quotes there) would be just fine. I didn't feel comfortable with that and was thinking to get a 2nd opinion. On my way out, their "Office Manager" cornered me in front of other patients and loudly said that I had to make 50% payment for all services rendered before I was allowed back. I stated that I would not pay until my insurance paid and that it was not my problem you never asked for co-pays, I specifically asked every time I went in. I told them, you've received my portion of payment for the services rendered that the insurance has already paid. I would not pay the rest until after the insurance made their payments. I asked to speak to the doctor which she refused to go get her. I ended up getting 2 separate opinions (one from a doctor at UCLA that has done this for 25+ years) - both stated that my son needed additional casting, surgery, and the brace I had - they had never seen before in their lives. They also stated they were confused that Dr.
would state what she stated to me. So in the end, Dr.
costed me another $3000 to go to a new doctor for him to fix her mistakes (additional casting and surgery). His new doctor at UCLA is even cheaper that Dr.
's fee (go figure!). I turned them in to HIPPA for violating my son's medical information in front of all their other patients (which is a NO-NO). I contacted their HR department which they said they would look into it, but as soon as I said I turned them in to HIPPA, I never heard from them again. DO NOT GO TO
IN THOUSAND OAKS - Their office manager, Emeritt, is horrible. Dr.
apparently does not know what she is doing. Luckily I found a great orthopedics doctor that corrected the mistakes Dr.
did. My son is now 2 and you would never know. In the long run, it did cost me additional money but having the happiness and health of my son is worth it.

Children often are diagnosed with illnesses and conditions that affect adults, but because of their special needs, they are often referred to pediatric specialists. Specialists in all areas can provide treatment plans to improve health and quality of life.

Pediatric orthopedics

When children injure their bones or joints, they need the services of a pediatric orthopedic doctor. These medical specialists have insight into how children's bones grow and change as they develop.

Sounds like you should be pursuing a disability claim.  Also, you could speak to your previous doctor frankly about your concerns.
Have they made orthotics for your shoes that distribute your weight better?

Whoops - I just realized that you may have been looking for Angie's List information on providers outside your home market. To see information on providers that aren't in your home Angie's List chapter, you can elect to pay a small addditional fee (generally about $15 to $20) to add another city's Angie's List to your existing memember.

I apologize for my delay. I apologize, but orthopedic surgeons fall under our Orthopedics category which is included in the Health list. Currently, you're enrolled in our Basic membership which only includes access to our Home list.

If you'd like to upgrade your membership to the Plus or Premium plan, we'll be happy to assist you with this search. If interested, give us a call at 1.888.944.5478 and we'll take care of this adjustment. Again, I do apologize for any misunderstanding.

Hi,

This is James W. with Member Care. Thanks for posting your question.

It looks like when you signed up online on 8/5/2014, that you accidentally joined our greater Portland chapter instead of our Salem/Corvallis chapter that your zip code falls under. I have transferred your subscription to that chapter, so you will now have access to the correct area.

I hope this information helps! Please let me know if I can assist further. You can respond to this thread or submit a new Answers post. You can also reach us at 1-866-783-2980. We're open weekdays from 8:00 am - 9:00 pm and Saturdays 8:00 am - 5:00 pm ET.

Thanks again!

was very nice, and informed. He is very good with kids. I think he's got a good speciality, and he's good at what he does. His staff, as well as the nurses, were also great. I would use him again if I needed to.

Carving hip sockets, tweaking joint alignment, real plates and screws in bone and tissue- I would have done it for her if I could have, but the results were fantastic! My daughter tolerated the surgery, body cast, and second surgery like a champ. (Boy did I NOT want to go through the second procedure, everything was working fine, but the metal has to come out and the bone grows around it if you wait too long). All along Dr Edeen and staff had follow ups, in house xrays where Mom or Dad can stand right beside them- which can make all the difference. She runs, jumps, plays twice as energetically as before. The staff always spoke to my daughter directly, explained what they would do (in house appointments had very little pain involved, may be scary to a child) let her pick cast color, band aids stickers etc. Bonus- she loved there waiting room, which is good as many appointment times run over (you may be there a bit longer than your scheduled time)- many special cases, disabilities etc.

Very long story short, Dr
Oklahoma City Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeons Provider Name Locked
knows what he is doing and his treatment was successful which I am ever thankful for. He was very highly recommended by our pediatrician which is why we went with him. Along the way we experienced what I feel were unnecessary stress and frustrations due to Dr
Oklahoma City Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeons Provider Name Locked
's bedside manner as well as his staff's interaction with us. Based on my research it seems that Dr
Oklahoma City Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeons Provider Name Locked
most often treats children/teens so I chalked up the lack of sensitivity and attention to communication detail to the fact that a small amount of his work is focused on newborns with new parents.

is the pediatric urologist that has been treating our grandson since November of 2011. He needed a medically-necessary circumcision. In addition, he has had other urinary infection and pain. She has been amazing in the diagnosis and treatment of his problems. In addition, she is available through email for certain things which is all the more amazing. She is the best!

It went very well. It was a reassurance. The treatment was successful. We found out that this wasn't as rare as we thought. They see it more in older kids that have been wrestling or playing football. We're satisfied with the services we're receiving.
