"Many clothes dryers are replaced annually because users fail to keep the dryer vent ducts clean, especially the roof cap if you have one. This can cause LONGER DRYING" TIMES and OVER-WORKED HEATING ELEMENTS. This can cause elements and/or associated relays to default. Dryer repair can be fairly expensive; so people often just buy new ones.....NOT just a dryer, BUT often a matching washer too. They get very little trade in value for their set, so practically give away their washer and dryer - all because they did not keep the dryer vent clean. Then wise appliance resellers repair them and sell them to folks looking to save some money on a pair. OUR dryer vents through a wall duct an extension in the attic that goes to a roof vent. Our roof vent had collected several years of lint build up that could no longer get blown through the louvered slots. This backpressure of heated air seriously reduces the efficiency of your dryer and can create the situation I described. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR! Get your dryer vent duct and roof cap cleaned. If you plan to heed my advice, but don't really know who to call:
, 471-1017. Chase
, one of the most well mannered and thorough young men ever to do work for me. Chase is a local Fireman who purchased a retiring operator's business to supplement his income in support of his wife and 16 month old baby. His price was about the average that I've paid in the past, but he went far beyond my expectations by making sure my roof vent was also thoroughly cleaned. That was a tedious job, since no cleaner before him had been as responsible, as thorough. Twenty one years of lint build up because the louvers are small. The fix? Cut out certain louvers to allow better flow to the outside, then vacuum through the louvers. It was extremely tedious and required him to be on my 8/12 roof for 45 minutes. For all this extra work and a couple of minor repairs in the attic duct, he asked for a measly $25 extra dollars over his normal fee of $125. I had watched his effort and his diligence; so my conscience forced me to pay him $200 and felt good doing it. He showed up on time, worked steadily for two and a half hours, had all the proper equipment to do the job and did what no other service person had done before - he did it right and cleaned up THEIR mess. Well worth a $50 tip to me

"When I moved into my house almost two years ago I had someone clean the ducts. Their was rust in one boots. The previous owner had covered it up by putting a napkin" over it. Last summer I decided to get it fixed. I ended up needing two boots and my plenum needed to be fixed. I had
come out and give me an estimate. When he came he gave me a flyer that gives you the impression he coats not only the plenum but also the vents. He sent me the video of scanning with a quote $3335.00 before any discounts. He does give a military discount. A few people told me this sounded high. I thought if it saved me from putting vents in my ceiling right now then it would be worth. Plus I was really sold on cleaning out the vents since I have bad allergies. The day they came it was pretty hot. They had to shut off my a/c before starting the work. The machine is pretty loud.
seemed kind of scattered. I would tell him to do something or remind him of something we talked. Then I would have to remind him again. For instance he didn't put the covers to my vent on correctly. They are tight vents and he left on of the covers half off. Wouldn't be that big of a deal. Just annoying since the quote was so high. They finished their work and left. The a/c guy had come and turned on the a/c. The house wasn't cooling down. After a few hours I asked my neighbor to come over. I wanted to make sure it wasn't me. She said no it feel warm. I called
who then called the a/c guy. He didn't come out. He called and gave me a hard time. Made me feel like an idiot who broke my a/c. My a/c was working perfectly fine before they did any work. Again this is a hot day. I was pretty aggravated. Finally I called another a/c company. The came and did some stuff to the a/c and it was fixed. At the same time he looked at
work. He said that he could see the vents were still dirty. He actually found a candy bar wrapper!!!! He was shocked at the price I paid. He said he could have put in new vents in my ceiling for that price. I was shocked. And felt like a fool. I called
the next day and he agree to give me a refund. I went with
because of the Angie's list reviews. I do not think people really are getting what they paid for. If I had not had another a/c guy check the vents I would have thought all of that work was fine. Please be ware of this company. Have someone check their work.

Air Duct Cleaning & Air Quality

The air you breathe indoors can become more polluted than outdoor air because it's trapped inside, allowing contaminants to accumulate. Many HVAC companies offer air duct cleaning services, but there's no scientific proof that air duct cleaning improves air quality.

Is Air Duct Cleaning Worth it?

Although there's no scientific evidence proving that air duct cleaning improves air quality, experts agree that there is value in the service.

Yes Jupiter. It depends on the severity of the situation, is the mold encapsulated in the insulation. If yes, than replace [insulation] it with new. Is it on the casing of the heater? If yes, clean it with a mold neutralizing metal cleaner. It's not a matter of finding something or someone to clean or address the existing mold. It's a matter of finding a contractor to rectify what is causing the mold grow. It's coming from excessive moisture in the air-handler unit. I can say with 100% surety you’re dealing with poor airflow and/or incorrect equipment sizing! Either issue will cause excessive icing of the evaporator coil, which leads to excessive condensate water in the system. The condensate will eventually overflow the drain pan leaving stagnant water in the air-handler housing, which leads to mold growth. I would not let any contractor do any kind of temporary repair, add any device like a UV light or air-cleaning product until the aforementioned is corrected. I talk a lot about this in my videos and on my website. It is the result of improper system design from unqualified contractors. There is a reason why some guys cost more than others, and this is one reason why!

If the ducts are venting through a window I'm assuming the duct work is all easily accessible.  Lowe's and Home Depot sell a cleaning kit that uses an electric drill to spin the brush as it goes through the ductwork.  I've found it to work quite well and you can do it yourself.  It may take a few passes the first time to get everything out if it has been a while since it was last cleaned.  Just make sure you get all of the loose lint out after running the brush through from both ends and you're good to go.  Please note that if the line is not hard but rather a flex duct line you can easily puncture a whole in it with this kit and will do better to clean it by hand.

There are varying opinions on the type of cleaning to have done on your air ducts.  My opinion is that it varies based on the type of duct work you have.  If you have solid material (typically metal) ducting you can have use a company that uses a brush to scrape the system clean.  If you have flexible plastic or foil ducts the solvent cleaners are generally a safer bet since the brushes often tear holes in the soft material and/or pull joints loose.  It really depends on what type on ducting you have.  You're ducts will collect all kinds of dirt, skin cells and allergens over time so if you see dicoloration around your vents it is probably time to get them checked and cleaned.

Also, don't stop at the duct work.  Don't forget your annual system check up by a licensed HVAC technician.  They'll make sure your system is running at peak performance, keeping it running efficiently and with as little impact as possible on your electric bill.  You can often save the cost of the annual tune up in the electricity cost saved.  If you have a natural gas system a bi-annual check and cleaning of the HVAC unit may be advisable to save electricity and gas.

if you have exhausted all of your choices I would call and put a complain in with the BBB then go to the DA and put a complain with them.  Then get a good lawyer and sue them for all you can get.

the answers in this on this page are all correct but you are using a bandaide to to cure the infection have a trust hvac tech open your system to see where the dust is coming from you more than likely have an impacted coil that need to acid wash to bring it back to oringinal anything left from the fire is still inbeded in that coil. just remember after that job to keep your filters clean change once a month in the summer and every two months in the winter.

Air Duct Cleaning reviews in Oklahoma City

I started out with a groupon to have my air ducts serviced. While he was here he went ahead and took a look at my crawl space after we discussed the problems I was having with cooling the house which is why I wanted the ducts cleaned. He found debris in the ducts suggesting some problems and originally thought it would require some repairs and that I should have a moisture

installed under the house.
He showed up and when he went deeper under the house, found the mold so they treated the mold to remove it. Then treated the wood to prevent it in the future. Added a moisture

to the underside of the house. Fixed the ducts including reattaching places that had come apart, resealing them with tape and then rewrapping them. All this was done in less than a day and they even came a day early.
The overall price wound up being more of an ouch than I was expecting but nothing out of line with what was done.

UPDATE 8/6/13
Update: After having constant air conditioning problems still, a provider I used from Angie's List determined that I had a collapsed air duct in one area and then a collapsed return as well ...these are things that were supposed to have been repaired by
Oklahoma City Air Duct Cleaners Provider Name Locked
when they did the work. This leads me to believe that they didn't do everything they said they were going to do so I will not use them again and I would not recommend them to anyone either. I feel I was taken advantage of and overcharged for the services they did do and I should be issued a partial refund for the work I am having to get done that was supposedly done last year. Very disappointed.

He seemed honest, but I thought the price of cleaning the dryer vent which was the same price as the chimney, was pretty high. He also was messy with the dryer vent lint- he blew out into the back yard and didn't bother to pick it up. The trash can in the basement where the dryer is, was on the floor and I don't know why he couldn't have picked that up either.

I would recommend

. I had seen their add on TV and they were at a neighbors, whom I know is very picky, thats why I hired them. They were very professional and friendly. They completed the work in a timely manner and cleaned-up after themselves.

were nice people. I felt they were honest about the pricing. The work done was good. I am well satisfied with the results.

I am very upset with
Oklahoma City Air Duct Cleaners Provider Name Locked
. I resent the fact that they tried to charge us extra to repair the damage they caused when cleaning the air vents. Additionally, they attempted to do other work that wasn't needed. I would discourage anyone from hiring them.

My experience with this company was exceptional. I am an American Home Shieid home warranty customer, and I requested
Oklahoma City Air Duct Cleaners Provider Name Locked
OK specifically based on previous work they had performed for me. The owner,
Oklahoma City Air Duct Cleaners Provider Name Locked
, arranged for immediate installation due to the extreme heat conditions. The crew was young, but experienced and efficient. All three workers were courteous and neat. It took approximately 5 hours to complete the job, after which they swept and cleaned their work area, and removed the old units and work debris. I had no issues with my home warranty reimbursement, and was pleased with the choices I had of the products. I highly recommend this company.

From the moment ADVANCED AIR SPECIALIST came to my home, I was grateful beyond words for their honesty and integrity.
The first day they came, they explained that the thermostat was out and the cooling switch would allow the furnace to kick on, but then would immediately kick it off (of course my home warranty insurance service company would have to replace the unit and I'm sure that's why they gave me NO indication that there was a problem either visit). They ordered the necessary parts and came back the next day. After replacing the parts, they took a peek in the attic and discovered my new nightmare. He said that the moment he stuck his head in, he could see the condition of the ductwork.
He apologized all over himself for not looking the day before and I assured him that there was no way he could've known. They came back again the next day and within 3 hours I had all new duct work and a new system (

). Their efficiency was absolutely amazing.
They even reduced the price of the HVAC by the $1000 I paid for the duct work. Who does that anymore? THIS COMPANY!
Integrity still exists..

- Barbara D A.

Everything went well. We setup a time to have them come out to do the video, the owner showed up right on time and did exactly what he said he would do. After doing the video, we scheduled the cleaning for a week later and again he was on time and did a great job cleaning all of our vents. We can definitely breath easier now! Although the cost was a little more than I expected, I am happy with their work and would definitely recommend them if you need duct cleaning.
