Norfolk Electricians Reviews

F
" DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY.
The technicians lied and attempted to sign me up for a full system replacement ($7000) when only minor repairs were needed. Full story below.

I'll be as brief as possible, but you really need to hear some of the details within. All of this actually happened.
Our heat wasn't working, so we called
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked
& Sons because they were recommended by family. We have a dual-fuel system (electric heat pump supplemented by natural gas for emergency / extreme cold heating needs). The technician showed up promptly and conducted a full inspection and analysis of our system. It took him about 90 minutes to complete and seemed very thorough. When he was finished, I asked him what was needed to bring the system back online. I was told that all of the following issues were discovered:
- Excessive refrigerant leaks with refrigerant accumulated in the system
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked

- Numerous visible cracks in the heating coil posing a potentially fatal carbon monoxide threat
- A significant power mismatch between heat pump and furnace that resulted in major efficiency and lifespan issues
- Improper natural gas hose (flexible) leading to furnace
His recommendation:
- Could fix all components, but this would cost about $4000 and we'd still be left with a 10-yr-old system that would likely not last very long
- Instead, replace whole system with a standard single-stage 15 SEER 80% gas furnace (3 ton)
- Cost: $7702.20
He was quick to sign me up for financing (which I cleared through Wells
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked
) and then called in a 2nd
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked
& Sons technician to confirm his findings -- which he stated was their policy anytime they found issues associated with natural gas / carbon monoxide leaks. The 2nd technician showed up much later and proceeded up into my attic along with the 1st technician. Here is where things got strange

Unbeknownst to either tech, I quietly followed them up the ladder into my attic and remained out of sight while the 1st
tech (presumably) explained the situation. Only instead of speaking aloud about the problems he found, he began whispering very quietly. I could not hear what he was saying to the 2nd tech, but whatever it was, he definitely did not want anyone else in that house hearing what he said. If I had to guess, it was something along the lines of "hey, I've already got this guy set up and approved for a full system reinstallation -- he just has to sign the papers." Obviously this is my guess, but keep reading.
At this point, I quietly climbed back down the ladder and waited for them to finish their "work." After some time the 2nd tech came down and informed me that he had confirmed all of the 1st tech's findings and that he agreed with the full system installation recommendation, then went to his van while the 1st tech reassembled everything in the attic. I then followed the 2nd tech to his van where I found him on the phone and when he was done, I asked him plainly, "I followed you two up there to check out how things were going and I couldn't help but notice that your colleague was speaking to you very quietly about something. Do you mind telling me what you two were talking about that you apparently didn't want anyone else to hear?" I could tell that this was the last thing he expected to hear from a customer, and his answer was, "Did we really talk quietly about anything? Wow, you know, I just don't remember at all what it was about!" I assured him that I knew for a fact that they had indeed been whispering to each other, and that it had only occurred about 10 minutes prior, so I was surprised that he had already completely forgotten about a conversation he just had that was important enough to handle so discreetly.
Once I had both technicians in my living room after that, I thanked them for their time and told them that before I commit to anything as large as a full system reinstallation, I was going to get a 2nd opinion from an independent provider. They were visibly disappointed with this and intimated that they expected the next vendor to just undercut them by a few hundred dollars and take the business. I told them that if a second opinion confirmed all their findings, I'd be glad to keep my business with
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked
& Sons, but if they didn't -- or if their quote to fix it was significantly less, then I would have to think twice about that. They collected their things and left.
The next night, I had a technician from One-Hour come out and conduct another inspection. I did not tell him he was the 2nd opinion, I just wanted to see what he found. After his inspection, he found:
- No refrigerant leaks or refreigerant in the system
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked

- No cracks visible in the heating coil
- The heat exchanger was pulling air in properly
At that point, I told him what the M&S techs had found and he said he didn't see anything like that, but that he owuld bring in a 2nd opinion from his team to check. The 2nd tech arrived later and the 1st tech left -- they didn't even talk to each other because it's their policy not to bias their findings. We were then pleasantly surprised to find that the 2nd tech from One-Hour was an old friend of my wife's -- finally, someone we could trust.
He actually used a flexible snake-camera to take high-resolution detailed pictures of the heating coil from all
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked
inaccessible by a person alone (something M&S did not do -- they said the cracks were clearly visible) -- confirmed: zero cracks in heating coil. He also conducted a refrigerant leak test with an electronic detector -- confirmed: zero refrigerant leaks found. He reviewed the recommended fixes and strongly advised against a full system reinstallation, and couldn't understand why anyone would want to exchange a powerful dual-fuel system for a single-phase electric-only heat pump. He thought the problem could be fixed by rewiring the thermostat to correctly control the system.
We approved this work and he made the needed adjustments. The system immediately began working perfectly. Total cost came to $169. We haven't had any problems since, and have installed multiple carbon monoxide detectors around the house that haven't detected a thing.
DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY. They were prompt and courteous, but teamed up to defraud me and my family. They would have gladly signed me up to install a new, lower quality system for thousands of dollars instead of performing a
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked
fix. I dodged a bullet through the good fortune of having a family friend unexpectedly show up and expose
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked
& Sons' fraudulence, but I was just a signature away from putting myself another $7000 in debt to a lying, manipulative, uncaring company.

"This contractor was friendly, he showed up on time, he cleaned up his mess, and he minimzed the damage to the drywall by coring drilling and plugging. All I had to do is mud and sand the plugs before I painted the room. The $99 coupon for labor on Aggies list was a great price. And he was in and out in under two hours. It would have taken me a lot more time to do the work myself so it was well worth the money. I would hire him again.

"He was very professional and knowledgeable about his trade. He went above and beyond the requirements of the Big Deal I'd purchased. I will most definitely use him again for any electrical problem I encounter, and he has my highest recommendation.

"I needed 2 lengths of CAT5 cable pulled from a central closet to the exterior wall at the back of the house for the installation of additional security cameras. Although deal details excluded exterior installations, the electrician agreed in advance to perform the work since I did not require the actual installation of the cameras. The electrician and his helper completed the work well within the 2 and half hour estimate and I know that one of the cable pulls was not easy. I definitely would consider using him again for future projects and would recommend to friends.

"Mr.
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked
was cordial and apologized for coming early without calling first (but that was OK since I was home anyway). I did have to call him back to increase the sensitivity of the exterior lights. I also asked him to check out a problem I was having w/flickering lights inside the house that I thought a different electrician had fixed previously--but it re-ocurred. Mr.
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked
scheduled another appointment at a reduced hourly rate. He arrived several hours early, but I was glad because the flickering was making me nervous. He readjusted the exterior lights. He also found a problem with the connection barely touching in the panel box and fixed it. But unfortunately, the problem reoccurred. We scheduled another appointment, and after further investigation, he found the power coming to the house was fluctuating and I needed to call Dominion Power. Dominion Power finally found the problem and fixed it. Thanks to Mr.
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked
for leading me in the right direction!

"My experience in evaluating contractors: My experience in remodels doing electrical myself (5,000 square foot house entirely) and working with electricians is very extensive: I’ve completely done electrical on six major homes over the years. Thus, I have dealt with numerous paint contractors.
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked
is one of the best I’ve ever worked with.
Scope of Project: Notably, I hired every contractor remotely from San
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked
prior to moving out to
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked
. Using Angie’s List and Better Business Bureau, I searched and evaluated numerous electricians. The job entailed installing four new fans, kitchen under counter lights, 20 new recessed halogen spot lights, track lights, new circuits, GFI circuits, moving outlets, etc.
Bid Preparation: Getting estimates from a far, I had prepared an extremely detailed, line by line item list of every step that needed to be done. My real estate agent had keys to our condo and coordinated pick-up and return for inspection and estimates by contractors. I had identified every electrical item that would need to be purchased, specifying part number, location (spots / switches, etc). Each electrician got an identical email from me with no changes, thus ensuring comparability. I was searching for the best workers, at reasonable costs, and a good personality fit - most important. Numerous emails and phone call exchanges with these folks over two weeks it took to find the right painter. I chose
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked
as we determined approximate time frame he and his crew could begin. I had contract sent / signed, and initial deposits made for the work.
Professionalism: He is very, very professional, super experienced in all facets of electrical work, helpful with suggestions and ideas. He is very reasonably priced (on the lower end but important, not the low end - you get what you pay for). Most important, he is attentive, very responsive (always a phone call response back to me generally within an hour and always within the day). I knew within the first day or two I had the right man for the job and needn’t worry about a thing. Not only was he an expert, he has an excellent way of dealing with other sub-contractors working their jobs (during the time frame he was there), who genuinely liked working with him, coordinating with them, their schedules, to keep things flowing smoothly.
Work ethic. He is extremely detail conscious, everything needed to be perfect by him, always opted for the best look, never cut corners, even if cut into his profits. Always cleaning up everything at the end of the day, removing tools. Remodels, especially old homes, always run into problems not anticipated and not part of the original contract. Important: home owners always come up with new ideas, the job expands, change orders, etc. Therefore, I knew from my extensive remodeling experience I could run over budget. I can assure you that
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked
was always more than fair with me, not a
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked
counter, while incurring additional work that needed to be done.
Job Done: The condo lighting is absolutely beautiful (I‘m an artist, lots of paintings hanging on walls), on time done to perfection at a reasonable cost, with an excellent working relationship, hassle free co-operative manner thanks to
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked
and
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked
.
Summary: Having done five extensive home re-models, working with all the trades and at least 100 contractors, I CAN TRUTHFULLY SAY HE IS VERY GOOD. His work is top notch. HIS PRICES ARE VERY REASONABLE. His work ethic superb and honesty commendable.

"Over the course of time, squirrels had chewed thru the insulation on a number of wires coming into my attic thru a conduit/hole in the facia board. I had moved some old wood from the area of the hole, and caused an arc.
Mr,
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked
came to the house within about 30 min of my call, inspected both the area where the wires had been chewed, and had his assistant tape them until they can return and place a junction box outside in the vicinity of the conduit.
Felt very confident with the work Mr.
Norfolk Electricians Provider Name Locked
did; would hire him again without hesitation.
