"We called and was given a quote of $148 for the first hour and then $40 for every quarter hour after that. We were told there was a minimum of one hour. Two guys arrived and identified the frozen pipe. They used our hair dryer to start defrosting the pipe. After forty minutes they decided to open the back of the sink wall and almost instantly the pipe defrosted. Done in less than an hour they then presented us with a bill for $240, which they said included their "travel time." There had never been a mention of travel time. Further, their offices are no more than ten minutes or so from our house. We had assumed that while they were just sitting there using our hair dryer that since we were stuck paying them for an hour anyway that this was fine. But, instead, they not only charged us $100 more than we were expecting they unnecessarily broke a hole under our sink.
When we questioned the two guys who were there about the charges they admitted others have complained to the boss about the travel time that the boss insists he tells people about but does not.
I would highly recommend, if you have the misfortune of dealing with the owner, getting everything in writing in advance of the visit. We couldn't even get a proper invoice. Just a hand run credit card receipt.
"I called a few weeks back and scheduled and appointment for a Monday (9AM - 12Noon window), and no one ever showed.
I called the next day only to be told that my appointment had never been put on the schedule, and no one there would take responsibility for the screw up. They said I'd have to wait another week, with which I, regretfully, agreed.
My new appointment date was Tuesday (again, 9AM - 12Noon window), and I called first thing to confirm that someone was on their way. Shockingly, I was told that they were backed up because of the weather. Mind you, the snowstorm that they were blaming for the delay had only just started that morning and there was maybe half an inch, at most, by that point. I was also told that they weren't supposed to be taking on "private customers", which seemed to amount to them telling me I should take a long walk.
I was told to call back in a few hours for a status update, which I did, and which

to them telling me that they weren't going to make it on my scheduled day -this was the only time I spoke to them and considered the response reasonable. The snowstorm, while not severe, was still a worthwhile excuse.
However, I just called to find out when I might expect them, and was told my appointment had been rescheduled for Monday. No one thought to call to let me know, or to verify that this was even possible.
I cancelled my appointment, as I'd already begun looking elsewhere.
I'm trying to keep this review as professional as I can muster. Blood is boiling.

listened to what the problem was and fixed it. Once the faucet was replaced I commented that the water flow seemed weak and that it had been weak even before the faucet broke. He agreed and he discussed the possible causes including the old rusty valves or the building's pipes. I probably will get the valves replaced in the near future, but he never exerted any pressure. In fact he said, that since it's working now I should try to see if it was the building's fault. He gave an estimate for the valve replacement.

First when they heard about the problem they referred us to someone qualified to make the required repair, a chimney and boiler cleaning company. and after the work was done and Con-Ed wanted to speak to a plumber they communicated with Con-Ed and submitted the paperwork on our behalf, without any payment commitment. And when Con-Ed insisted that a plumber come and turn-off all the valves in the building. They came immediately per con-eds instructions, showed me their labor cost schedule before starting the work, quickly and efficiently did the job. When they encountered problems they looked for an efficient and fast solution. They charged me $600 which was very reasonable for the amount of time it took. They then spent the next several days dealing with Con-ed and submitted all the required forms. Any other company could have easily taken advantage of our situation. They did not. In fact they went out of their way to help and spent much more time on helping us than the $600 I paid them.
I am always nervous when I hire a plumber. As a building manager plumbing problems are my biggest fear. But now that I know the folks at
