When we questioned the two guys who were there about the charges they admitted others have complained to the boss about the travel time that the boss insists he tells people about but does not.
I would highly recommend, if you have the misfortune of dealing with the owner, getting everything in writing in advance of the visit. We couldn't even get a proper invoice. Just a hand run credit card receipt.
I called the next day only to be told that my appointment had never been put on the schedule, and no one there would take responsibility for the screw up. They said I'd have to wait another week, with which I, regretfully, agreed.
My new appointment date was Tuesday (again, 9AM - 12Noon window), and I called first thing to confirm that someone was on their way. Shockingly, I was told that they were backed up because of the weather. Mind you, the snowstorm that they were blaming for the delay had only just started that morning and there was maybe half an inch, at most, by that point. I was also told that they weren't supposed to be taking on "private customers", which seemed to amount to them telling me I should take a long walk.

However, I just called to find out when I might expect them, and was told my appointment had been rescheduled for Monday. No one thought to call to let me know, or to verify that this was even possible.
I cancelled my appointment, as I'd already begun looking elsewhere.

First when they heard about the problem they referred us to someone qualified to make the required repair, a chimney and boiler cleaning company. and after the work was done and Con-Ed wanted to speak to a plumber they communicated with Con-Ed and submitted the paperwork on our behalf, without any payment commitment. And when Con-Ed insisted that a plumber come and turn-off all the valves in the building. They came immediately per con-eds instructions, showed me their labor cost schedule before starting the work, quickly and efficiently did the job. When they encountered problems they looked for an efficient and fast solution. They charged me $600 which was very reasonable for the amount of time it took. They then spent the next several days dealing with Con-ed and submitted all the required forms. Any other company could have easily taken advantage of our situation. They did not. In fact they went out of their way to help and spent much more time on helping us than the $600 I paid them.
I am always nervous when I hire a plumber. As a building manager plumbing problems are my biggest fear. But now that I know the folks at
