So every year they'd increase the contract price, way more than the price of inflation, property tax, or even my cable bill! Once I finally figured this out, I figured I'd hire them to add the valve. So I called them up to discuss some options, only to have the front office person totally shut me down. Refused to let me talk to anyone about this, insisting I pay for a $150 estimate visit.
I was complaining about this to a friend, who suggested Angie's List. Well, I was pleasantly surprised to find no shills, real reviews, and found an excellent plumber to do the work. And who did a free estimate, and pointed out several missing pieces to my heating system, including a zone control manifold. In other words, he knew his stuff.
I had an odd request for him - my brownstone was lacking zone control valves, and the back of the house, closer to the boiler, was always 5-10 degrees
He even spied a badly soldered joint which was leaking every so slightly, which could have turned into a geyser in a couple of years. So we had our plan, and I ordered the parts online.
When it came to the day of the job, he was there a bit early, with his assistant. They executed the job very professionally, cleaned up after themselves, got the work done in less than the estimated time, and I had the system back online early afternoon so the tenants had heat that night.
Once they wrapped up, he went through all the repairs with me, making sure everything was done. Even gave me some suggestions on some boiler maintenance I could do myself, and a vent opener my erstwhile heating contractor told me I could leave off, that he said could save me a bundle if I replace, which I'm doing this summer.
I went back and checked everything about a month later and found no leaks or anything. He did excellent work.
I'm not sure I'll have to take advantage of his warrantee or any followup, so I can't evaluate
Two days later, I texted him and asked why he didn't show up or notify me. He said he lost his phone. Not professional.
We think we're the best, and we can prove it.
