"plaster work was excellent, the floor was terrible. The price also increased twice and it was hard to get a straight answer. The floor had to be redone, and the start date was hard to pin down.

"Absolutely Terrible. He came in quoting me 250-300 dollars to seat a toilet and install a vanity for my bathroom. He came in and absolutely did not want to be there. He said I bought" all wrong things and needed to return them. He left within 20 minutes and didn't do a thing. I ended up installing everything myself in 3 hours. Worst
I have ever seen.

" I can't say enough positive things about Mr.
. He did a superb job restoring the grout on my floors. " and even filled in a couple of spots on tiles that were chipped, and now they look almost as good as new. He clearly takes pride in his work, and deservedly so. He is also an extremely neat workman; I had nothing to clean up after he'd gone. He is thoroughly professional, and happens to be a very nice person as well. I already plan to have him work on another project, and will hire him for future projects. don't hesitate to hire him!

OK - terminology issue here. The "shower pan" is a collection liner than underlies the shower floor itself, and is designed (if built and plumbed right) to trap any leakage from the shower floor and route it to the same floor drain pipe. Example image here, copper in this case -

http://indigochreblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/img_0835.jpg

It sounds like your are saying the shower floor or base unit failed - likely a fiberglass or plastic shower, which commonly fail due to incomplete support under them. This can be repaired if fiberglass, but is not usually done unless just microcracking, as it is hard to find an expert - usually you have to have a car body fiberglass specialist or a surfboard repair expert do it, and the color will not match perfectly unless you get a new gelcoat over the entire base unit. Cost about $300-500, ASSUMING the material can be repaired - true fiberglass can, thermoplastic can sometimes be welded but anyone's guess how long it will last without cracking again, plastics like PVC can rarely be fixed so they will hold someone standing on them. Any sort of repair is likely to crack again, because you have done nothing to remove the cause of the cracking which is standing on a base that is not fully supported over its full extent. Some cheepo or desperate plumbers try injecting non-pressuring type expanding foam underneath to improve the support - this does a great job of supporting it but unfortunately supports mold, so starts stinking in short order as a rule.

The normal fix is to remove and replace it, because once it is out there is no sense in putting a damaged one back in for the small increment in cost. Removing it means taking the shower wall liners or the bottom row or two of tile out so you can get the new base unit into place (because they overlap it), then replacing them. So, the $3000 range indicated is indicative of this type of job, which typically runs from a very low of around $1500-2000 for an identical base unit, to more typically $3-5,000 depending on whether a shower enclosure or tile walls. Of course, when the new one is put in, it is CRITICAL that it be fully supported - this means rubbing plumbers rouge or similar marking substance on the bottom, test fitting it, and then lifting it out and checking that all the stiffener ribs and support pads made contact with the pan, and making adjusments as necessary until it has full contact, then standing in it and rocking back and forth to check for any points not making full contat and fixing them.

The $10,000 plus numbers you got must have been for entire shower replacement down to the joists and studs, and the $30,000 range number would be typical for a full bathroom remodel with new shower or shower/tub and doors and surround, wall finishes, vanity, sink, toilet, and flooring and door.

I am not sure a general handyman is the right person for the skylight.  We fix quite a few skylights that were installed by handymen and that could be the problem at its origination.  You will want a roofer for that.

As long as you are splitting the trades at that point, might as well get a flooring contractor to look at the floor once you have figured out the skylight repair/replacement equation.

responded promptly to emails and it was relatively easy setting up the work time, which I appreciated. However, he seemed quite irritable and was unfriendly when he initially arrived at my home ten minutes early on the day of the job. I had asked him to bring a ladder in advance since there was none available and I knew he would need one; he had expressed his frustration about this. I had failed to mention that I have no elevator and my apartment building is a walk up; this also annoyed him and he was sure to let me know. But, regardless, he did a great job installing two window shades, one in my bathroom and one in my kitchen. The wood surfaces were not straight and the window-frame
New York Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
complicated, but he did a really wonderful job and it was done in 45 minutes. He did not complete the two other jobs he came for; one was installing a shelf in the bathroom and the other was fixing a leaky faucet in the kitchen. I had relayed to him before he came that the walls were very thin in the bathroom and it may be difficult to install the shelf. He spent a while trying install the shelf, but it did not work. He left holes in my wall that he covered up with "
New York Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
" saying that if I ever wanted to paint one would never be able to tell that they were there. I wasn't going to paint as I had just wallpapered the bathroom. He later noted that I could put a piece of wood over a part of the wall and then put the shelf on top of it. He looked at the faucet in the kitchen and soon established what the problem was, but did not have the part to fix it saying the faucet was very old and there was no way he could have known to bring that particular part. He then started to explain how I could fix these two problems myself. I was told he had a 2 hour/$200 minimum and paid in cash. Since he had not been at my place for more than one and a half hour, he asked if there was anything else I needed done, I said no there was not and he left.

I have read some of the reviews on
New York Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
's work and they are by large positive and I understand why. He seems like a great guy who is serious about the work he does and usually gets things done. I am sorry to have written such a mixed review, but I really feel the job in my apartment could have been handled differently if there would have been some more questions about the jobs themselves in advance to properly prepare. I felt frustrated about having to pay $200 for a job that was not completed, regardless of the fact that I in part also understood why (the walls in the bathroom are really super-thin and very difficult to hang things on, but, I thought, since a cabinet and shelf had previously been successfully mounted on it by a friend, it might work regardless). I went back to
New York Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
's listing of services on Angie's list to check about the two hour minimum and did not find it. I then went back and looked over our email correspondence and saw that indeed he had said there was a two hour minimum and cash only. Again, the Angie's listing mentions nothing about a time minimum and it looks like check and pay
New York Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
are acceptable payment methods. Perhaps post the cash only and 2 hour minimum requirement in the Angie's listing itself? And, again, most importantly, I wish
New York Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
would have asked me more detailed questions about the work that needed to be done in advance so he could have come better prepared and perhaps could have fixed at least the faucet. There was really no need explaining to me what I should do in order to fix the two things he failed to repair. If I wanted to fix it myself I wouldn't have hired him.

it is awful. the original cost was based on him leveling my floor which I thought needed to be done evidently it did not and putting in a new floor he ruined my wooden lfloor with is messy work. he left me with electric sockets hanging out and unusable he did the same behind my refrigerator which was supposedly built in . the hole to move pipes is not properly covered. he took me to a cabinet place that has a F rating at BBB. and he never showed up on time or at all. He also gave the cabinet maker the incorect dimensions they showed me a text message. he worked 3 full days in six months I kept a calandar of his work. He would come for 2 hours and leave maybe once a week The latest thing is that he did my bathroom 6 months ago and he installed my brand new toilet incorrectly. I had to pay $250+ to have it installed corectly and he had ruined the finish with his tools on the matching toilet seat. I had a contractor come and look at it months ago and kept asking him to fix it which he never did but I had to when it started a leak.I had asked him to seal the grout in the bathroom and he told me it was beneith him so now my bathroom shower wall has different colored grout. took him 6months to reseal a leak in the shower door he installed he never calls you back and does not care how much of my time he wastes, especially waiting for him to show up I was being very nice and gave him the fiirst payment before xmas as I knew he had kids. he did not start until march 2014 he asked for 250 to pay his workman and i gave him 500 so he would have some money I hve been more than nice to him all along and he has reall not performed his part at all oh and he got me to pay $600 to rmove the garbage frm my bathroom I have been toled i was taken for a ride on that as it was only tiles and toilet and sink that was it i would not recomend him at all and would like part of my money back as he never completed the tasks

My experience with HHHHome Repairs was a positive one. I was impressed with their accommodation for my last minute request, speed, and efficiency. I called at 9 am with a desperate request for a quick closet removal and the project was painlessly finished later that night.
I was in contact with the coordinating contractor,
New York Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
, through text, email, and phone calls. When I needed him to provide my building management with his certificate of liability, he did so quickly and professionally.
The workers were great as well. Although they arrived later than expected, they were polite, kind, and efficient when it came to the job!
I will use HHHHome Repairs in the future should I have another project and recommend them to anyone who has a project

was very helpful determining a solution for carpentry work around two radiators. First was a "kicker" radiator that extended through a wall. He built a box will back ventilation and also completed sheetrock/plaster/painting. He also installed base moulding around a runtal radiator that rests on top of a wall. Next,
New York Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
installed ski racks in a wall that had a circuit breaker box on the other side. He was careful and thorough to make sure nothing inside the wall was damaged and also used his own screws as the ones provided with the racks were very short. Lastly, he installed weather stripping at two entries and hung pictures making sure all was secure. I found
New York Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
to be skilled and professional with all of the work. I would definitely call him for additional work.
