New York Drapery Cleaners Reviews
Having never dealt with drapes before, I was a real babe in the woods on this project, but relieved to find someone who felt comfortable taking it on.
The project was finished sooner than I expected. They came on May 2nd to re-hang the drapes. It was such a relief to get them hung in the new apartment, that I was pleased to see they fit the window. It was a little upsetting to see that the lining hung slightly below the drapes themselves, but I figured this was the fault of cleaners -- that there had been some shrinkage. This wasn't a problem, though, as there's furniture that goes in front of the drapes anyway. And then, I had to go out of town shortly after the work had been done, and I was told that
When my husband came home, he was pleased to see the drapes hanging, but upset that they no longer closed. (I later learned that this was because of the wider window.) But, the tracks on the ceiling had been placed so that even when the drapes were pulled in as far as they could go, they weren't even. Main problem, though, was that the sheers had not been put back, which meant there was no way to block the neighbors view of our living room! (The contract had specified that sheers would be re-hung.)
Upon my return to New
Main person told me that the drapes were not quite wide enough to close all the way, which was fair. He then re-attached one of the ceiling tracks to that the drapes could at least be pulled in evenly. I then showed him the rod I'd bought to hang the sheers. I'd bought a shorter one -- that extended to only 84" (?) even though our window width was 95". (I figured that it would be okay to use the shorter length, as the drapes covered more than 12" on each side -- so they didn't have to be hung at the outside range.) He didn't seem to understand what I was suggestiing, and instead -- very cleverly, but grumpily -- extended the old rods, using a cut-off portion of my new rod. Fine. At least we have sheers hanging so that our neighbors don't have a 24-hour view...
But, the men who came out seemed to arrive with attitude that we, the customers, were just stupid. Hard to explain, but my husband especially felt they were very dismissive of us, and seemed to indicate that our dissatisfaction was ridiculous. But they did the job quickly, and then seemed to expect a tip. Although my husband is usually very generous, he was so annoyed with their attitude that he deliberately didn't give them anything.
The main person then tried to charge us an extra $45, which seemed foolish to me. He called
So, at least our drapes now look fine. The cord for pulling them was never reinstalled, so they have to be done manually, but at least we have drapes with sheers. I was told by friends that we were lucky to get service like this, so guess we can't complain. It upsets me to give a less-than-stellar review, but I feel it's only fair to prospective users of United.
