"Overall, the job was of a very high quality and reflects the toil and taxation (pun intended) of the contractor and owner. Much thought and care was poured into each and every detail of this renovation, from sconce to shutter screw. Project began with a consultation and estimate and took roughly four months to complete, sensible for the scale of work. One early regret was not having ironed out each and every minute detail (fixtures, products, etc.) at the very beginning of the project. This delayed some things and occasionally caused between owner and contractor.
Perhaps the contractor's biggest asset besides his experience is that he works on one job at a time; he focused completely on my project, unlike most contractors of today. The job progressed relatively smoothly with the few usual snags of such a large scale (of an ironically small space) renovation. All issues were resolved in the end and the result is truly magnificent. A few things that said contractor could have improved upon were flexibility on design/product selection (which in the end, he was, but sometimes discussions prolonged the project) and a better scheduled/stricter payment plan as part of the contract. As previously mentioned, a full agreement on product/design selection from the beginning would have benefited both parties as resolving these issues during the process extended the completion date and often added unforeseen costs.
In sum, I would reiterate the words "truly magnificent," though even this phrase cannot begin to describe the of the completed space. The contractor's ideas and experience with old brownstones coupled with the owner's creativity created a singular place in Manhattan that is beyond simply a living space...it is an organic environment that resurrects the age upon which its design is based and, right down to each and every carefully chosen doorknob, showcases the owner and contractor's hard work, dedication, inspiration, and most of all: vision."

"Discovered from a on Angie's List as my deadbolt lock and bottom lock broke. I reached out to on Thursday to get an estimate of what the cost of the repair might be. He asked that I send along photos of the front and back of the door, locks in question and dimensions of the door via email. In follow-up with via phone, I mentioned I needed to have the door repaired imminently and he was able to fit me in later that day. He arrived at the time he promised, evaluated the repairs and offered me a fair estimate that undercut the cost of the two other locksmiths I outreached to the day before substantially. He repaired both the deadbolt and bottom lock and gave me a reasonable price for a third lock on the front of the door that I was considering replacing, too. He did his work efficiently and cleanly. He even brushed up the debris from the door lock and applied WD40. was friendly, courteous and most importantly responsive! I would definitely use him again and highly recommend him to others. There is a reason he is at the top of the Angie's List ranking and now I know why."

"I've done 3 renovations and found that any renovation, large or small, is stressful. There is no getting around it. What sets and his team apart from others is that they know it can be stressful, that the client will be stressed out that things go wrong that are not the fault of the contractor, and they work with you to alleviate the stress. They suggested work-arounds, alternatives, schedule changes, a lot of things--whenever problems arose, and on those rare occasions when they made a mistake, quickly took responsibility and made it right at no cost.
and his team of workmen are excellent. He provided an initial bid in a timely fashion, and worked with me to come up with a price that was within my budget but still accomplished the task. He began when he said he would, and proceeded according to schedule. When he found unexpected problems, we worked them out agreeably. He was very agreeable to revisions as we went along, and charged reasonably for the changes I wanted. He was always available when necessary, by email, phone, or if necessary in person. He regularly appeared on the job to supervise the work, although his team was so good that little supervision was necessary.
His team was very professional, having had a lot of experience doing work of this type. The work took place right underneath the unit I live in, so I know it was not overly noisy. On the rare occasions that I wasn't satisfied with some of the work, he quickly redid it to my liking and did not charge me for this additional work. He involved me in decision making as much as I wanted to be involved. Some things I left to him and his judgment; others I accompanied HIM to Home Depot or other vendors to select cabinets, etc.
I am extremely satisfied with the work that his company did. If I have another project of any kind, would be the only person I would contact and be assured that he would give me a fair price. I wouldn't even have others bid a future job because with I would know that his price was a good price, and he would do the work very well and on schedule."

"I'm really happy. The track lighting installation was complicated because of my ceilings and badly sized/placed electrical boxes, which I expected in advance and it took quite awhile to do. I also had a 120 exceedingly heavy aquarium that needed shims to level it out because of very uneven wood floors. I had shims ready, but he brought some that were even better. It required much checking and adjusting as it had to be perfectly symmetrical on all corners to avoid undue pressure or twisting on the glass. And he cut a hole in my interior bathroom door and put a cat flap in for me. He worked hard the entire day and then some. He's good natured, keeps going until he gets the job done and is neat and clean. He wanted to make sure I was happy and got enough done on my list of things to do. Well, I was very happy. I've been saving up all my other things around the house and just waiting for my vanity light to arrive so that I can have him back for another day. I'm really pleased and wouldn't hesitate in recommending him or hiring him again."

"He is phenomenal and he has a wicked sense of humor. He never fakes anything and he won?t do something that he doesn?t know how to do. He is very fast and he takes a great deal of pride in being efficient. He is very clean and he always leaves the place at least as nice as it was when he came. There is probably something that he can?t do but I haven?t found it yet."

"This is my first time buying an apartment and while I did not "gut" the space, it turned out that I had more to do in the apartment as I noticed while living here the first month or two, interviewing contractors (the only thing done by previous owner was installing new bathroom). I was sold on , president Shoback, after speaking/interviewing a number of other contractors. I found on Angie's list and was impressed that he called me back (yes, there are a number of people who start out not even returning calls or showing up when promised!). met with me, listened to my ideas and offered his own or suggestions for what I was trying to achieve. This included advice on what was not needed or could be done in a more cost efficient way. He also steered me toward affordable, high quality options I knew nothing about, in selecting cabinets and some other material choices. It is not easy doing renovation work in Manhattan, working around coop work hours/rules and other challenges in the city. However, and team worked well with staff and got the job in a reasonable time. His team is highly skilled and pleasant. The result? I am completely satisfied with my "new" new apartment. People who have seen the before and and after have commented on how terrific the place looks, accenting space and view. And, throughout this all, stayed very attentive to the work and to me. He returned my calls and messages and communicated regularly. So, I was also very satisfied with 's professionalism and service. I highly recommend !"

"The head of is . He is also the chief laborer for the entire job. 's work is of the highest quality. And he is also a perfectionist.
If an existing iron gate or grill had to be removed during an installation, the gate or grill was re-installed afterwards. The interior wood trim and framing was beautifully finished."

" responded quickly to our initial enquiry over email, was able to come and see what needed to be done within 72 hours. He came back equipped with everything he needed and took great care making sure that the lines of the doors were straight and as flush as possible. He worked quickly, professionally, and left the work areas cleaner than he found it. His prices are reasonable, and to boot, he's a really nice person. All in all, a fantastic experience and we would definitely call him again if anything else needed repairing."

" and have been outstanding. They are very professional. They swept the floor while they were working and after they was done. They are priced reasonably as well. I can't get over how nice they both were. They deserve to be noted. "

"Very competitive price. A year later, when the caulking began to leak, they came back and fixed the leak, free of charge, no complaints. The installation was efficient. When estimating, they came early, gave realistic expectations and advice. I recommend them to all my friends, and look forward to using them again!"
