"Partial Master Bath Remodel: Remove and rebuild shower and toilet area of a master bathroom due to leaks discovered under both; as well as repairing problems caused" by a previous owner’s poor workmanship. This was a project that we were planning on doing in the near future, but became a necessity before we could save up the funds to do the entire job like we had planned. Called
to inquire if they were interested in looking at my project. First contact was with
Medrzycki, who seemed genuinely excited and interested in performing the work. Appointment was made to inspect the job; and he arrived at the time and date promised, on time; along with his project manager. They were both very attentive and listened to all of my plans, as well as some of the out of the ordinary ideas that I had. They were honest enough to agree, as well as disagree, with some of my plans while adding their own suggestions; and not just yes man salesman trying to get a job.
did not have any issues with doing any aspects of the project, both complete and partial; allowing me to do some of the finish work myself, as well as supply any items that I wished. Their quote was delivered on time as promised. Work and prices were quoted with extreme detail and incrementally. This really aided in both adding and subtracting parts of the work, being able to adjust the exactly what work was to be performed by them and myself; and especially during the project, when the unforeseeable issues inevitably crop up. Several changes and adjustments were made to the quote prior to the project being awarded. All changes were completed and emailed within 24 hours, and were all welcomed with graciousness. Work was started on time. Crews papered off all floor areas in the work area as well as all of their access routes; and sealed off entry ways for dust and noise issues. All personnel were polite, professional, and courteous; even asking permission to listen to a radio while working. Breaks were almost nonexistent, even to the point of me forcing them to stop and making them lunch on two occasions. When not needed on this project, project manager still stopped by several times per day to check progress and assist with any new issues. The inevitable unforeseen construction, electrical, and plumbing problems that were found as walls are opened up, were completed on a time and materials basis; all done at extremely reasonable prices. These charges were always discussed prior to work being performed, and were emailed the next day after they were completed. Project was completed to my satisfaction.

"I paid them in full and there are still things that have not been to my satisfaction. They had a very poor attention to detail and very poor attention to customer" satisfaction in handling this matter. Bottom line is that payment was made in full as of 9/30/14 with work having been started in August. It is now 12/19/14 and there are still two items of detail to be completed. Each conversation with the company has them stating "our guy will contact you to schedule", but then we still have to call back since no effort has been made to schedule. Also to note, is that we have never refused to be available or offer access to the house for workers to come. Just looking to have the project fully completed as agreed upon. I know no one that would hire a contractor service and feel that five months is an acceptable time frame to complete a bathroom!

?

This part of Don's answer follows my thoughts exactly:

"You want to deal with a professional person that is selling you a bath that was not working as a cashier a few months ago."

Do you go to the gracery store and ask for someone to cook your steak?  Of course not.  So why would you go to a building supply store and ask for someone to remodel your bathroom?  Rarely will you see a legitimate contractor take jobs from a retailer.  Why?  Because they don't pay much.  Speed is the most important thing to them, along with getting it done cheap so they can maximize profit.  About 10 years ago I worked on a few contracted structures (sheds, garages, etc.) from Home Depot.  They contracted to another company who then contracted people to build them.  At that time they paid a flat $250 for a contractor to pick up the supplies, build the structure on site, paint it, and use their own tools.  By the time the cost of a helper, fuel, tools, etc. was factored in there was nothing left for the contractor.  Anyway, the point I'm making is that the guy who will eventually show up to do the work will be so far down the line that everyone else has already taken the profits (Home Depot, ReBath, possibly someone else, and finally the guy working) that he probably isn't going to care what kind of job he does for you, quality or not.  He likely won't have much experience due to a high turnover rate and any experience he does have will probably be limited to his teachings at that job.  He probably can't answer any building code questions or identify other hazards once things are taken apart and he certainly won't do anything he doesn't have to while it is apart.

Another problem I've heard of repeatedly is that if (when) there is a problem there is always someone else you need to speak to.  You might have to talk to 4 or 5 different people before you can even get to someone that can address the problem.  Now multiply that due to having (at least) two separate companies involoved.  "You need to call ReBath."  "No, you need to call Home Depot."

You hire a general contractor for a reason.  We learn, understand, and keep up on building codes.  We are the one point of contact for all questions and issues on a project.  There is no manager in some other store, state, etc. to call.  You contract a GC and deal directly with that GC, or a site supervisor in some cases.  There isn't a huge chain of command to get through to reach the main decision maker for the business.  In a bathroom remodel you need someone who can do the plumbing, repair and/or move any electrical, install tile/flooring, drywall and paint, trim carpentry, and someone to coordinate all of that.  Sometimes you can find a qualified contractor to do all of those things and sometimes he will sub-contract out certain components (especially due to licensing laws) but you will always have that one definitive person to go to for any questions or issues.  A salesman in a store doesn't visit your home throughout the project to check on the status.  Even if he did, he likely wouldn't now what he is looking at.  The same goes for a retail manager.

Hire someone who specializes in taking care of your home.  Hire based on reputation & knowledge/experience.  You are right that not every customer can be happy so an occassional bad review can be found on just about any business.  Read the reviews, not the grades (they are always biased).  Look to see if the contractor attempted to rectify the problem, not ignore it.  Lastly, unless you want cheap, sloppy work and a whole heap of other troubles, don't hire based on a low price.

Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.
?
What I always ask my customers regarding this question when remodeling bathrooms is how good they will be about maintaining and cleaning the new bathroom, especially when the old bathroom is obviously neglected.  If you are one of those people who wipes the glass down after a shower and cleans your bathroom every week or two you really don't need to spend the extra money.  If you are at the other end of the spectrum and clean it when it finally bothers you enough it may not be a bad investment.  I've had customer tell me they can tell a difference compared to their old glass without it and others say it made no difference at all.

Your basic rights and protections under law are probably outlined by your state and city's laws. In most states, the easiest way to look up your basic rights and privelges as a consumer would be to visit your state's attorney general website - you can usually find lots of great tips to protect yourself as a consumer there, too. Here's the National Association of Attorneys General's national listing, which includes a link to each state's attorney general website: http://www.naag.org/current-attorneys-general.php

Beyond those basic rights under the law, your expectations of a contractor during, on and after the completion of a job should be explicitly outlined in the estimate and contract. Although it can be a pain in the butt, ALWAYS read the estimate and/or contract before sign it! I cannot stress this enough - frequently the cause of someone's negative experiences with a contractor can be traced back to too few details in the contract.

We've covered contracts, and what you should expect to see in them, here: http://www.angieslist.com/contractor/signing-a-contract.htm

Good luck!

were really great in helping me finish my bathroom renovation. It was a little difficult for me to take the financial plunge, as they normally do business with full bathroom renovations and the coupon for $50 was more for folks spending way more than I was anticipating to spend. However, even though I had already done half the renovating myself, they were flexible to work with me and find a way to make the coupon and their services fit my needs. They commuted from outside of

is patient and a great electrician, among other trades, and they have a great team that works with them. Its honestly the most I have ever spent on anything for my house but I know that their prices were sound, they had financing options available for me, and they really worked with me make sure I felt like I got my money's worth! Thanks so much to both of them and I hope the commute was worth it on their end, too!

The process was great. I had gone to different showrooms just to look, and maybe buy. But none of the other places reached out to me. I browsed at items and then left. At the

On the day of the appointment I called to let them that my partner, the actual owner of record for the property, was not going to be available because she wasn't feeling. I told them that I would be meeting with their rep and discuss the project with them. I was promptly informed that if she wasn't going to be available that they were going to meet with me because is was the company's policy that ALL property owners and decision makers be present for the meeting. Despite my protestations I was told that this was company policy and not subject to discussion. I cancelled out and figured that was it.
A few days later some guy called me and I told him I would be delighted to meet with him; but, she was still not feeling well and she trusted me to get all the pertinent information and ask questions. They say their quotes are good for 30 days so I didn't see where this would be a problem. I was once again told that it was company not to make any presentations unless all property owners and decision makers were present at the meeting. I questioned that policy with a number of reasonable scenarios; but he persisted with the same company policy spiel.
Today I received another call from the same guy to see how my partner was doing and if we could make an appointment. I said that would be fine; but, the situation hadn't changed and I would be the only person meeting with him. Despite my arguments to the contrary he stuck to the same company line about everyone who had a hand in the decision making needed to be present. I told him, in no uncertain terms, that if that was the way they did business to not call me again. At that I hung up.

is knowledgeable, friendly, humorous and extremely diligent. As important, he is very responsive. Most often he would answer my calls himself, if not he would get back to me in minutes. There was never a time over the two months of the most recent renovation that I didn't know exactly what was happening and when. The most recent renovation ran into several problems, none of which were caused by

. Nonetheless,
New Orleans Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
not only adapted to the problems, including rearranging his whole schedule, but helped solve other vendors' problems. Moreover, he did much of the additional work caused by these problems for free or for very reasonable additional charges. Throughout, he never lost his good humor and professionalism. The quality of his work was excellent. If anything was not exactly the way my wife and I wanted it he would cheerfully adjust to our satisfaction. Since

New Orleans Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked

New Orleans Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
is very honest and straight forward, he doesn't beat you down with details in his estimate or try to set you up for costly change orders, he treats such things flexibly and fairly, which I cannot say for other contractors we initially contacted. All of the others, particularly the larger ones, provide a very detailed estimate that seems impressive at first glance. Then when you read it you notice a lot highly technical and precise descriptions of the work that the estimate covers. Now that we have done two renovations it is clear to me that those descriptions are set up for change orders. I had no knowledge of what those descriptions meant, sheet rock finish is sheet rock finish, right? No, the finish the estimate is based on is one that will be unacceptable so the one you want will cost more. This is throughout the estimate. None of that with
New Orleans Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
. He is very clear with you about these things and tells you in advance so you can get an accurate estimate. All-in-all, my highest recommendation for

Was preparing to gut and renovate bathroom. Went to Planation Marble to get prices. The two female employees that I encountered could not have been any more rude or unresponsive. I looked over the showroom and was never even acknowledged. One employee seemed to have a nasty cold and continued to sneeze, snort, and cough while I was in the showroom. The other employee would only answer my questions with one word or minimal answers. Seemed like I was bothering them, so I left.
