The office was in the basement of a house. The waiting room was tiny and crowded. The place was not terribly clean. The employee's microwave and fridge were in the waiting room. There were patients sitting in chairs in front of the reception window and I had to stand in the doorway to talk to the receptionist.
The PA who took my vital signs etc. had someone with him whom he introduced as a medical student. He was showing her very basic things, such as how to take a pulse and how to count respirations. I doubt if she was a medical student. I think it is more likely she was training to be a PA. The phone kept ringing in the examination room . The PA answered the phone in the middle of giving me a spirometry test.
Dr. Ghumman then saw me. He talked to me and examined me. I had difficulty understanding his accent. I live and work in Queens. I talk with people with accents all the time and don't usually have any problem understanding them.
The doctor said I have some signs of sleep apnea and should have a pulmonary function test and a sleep study. I told him that I already had an appointment for a pulmonary function test at my primary care doctor's office. My HMO usually wants testing done in network if possible. He didn't really respond to that.
I asked him about articles I had read that many people don't stick with CPAP machines. He said some patients feel like a new person and love the CPAP machine while others whose sleep apnea was not that bad don't stick with the machine.
I was given an appointment for a pulmonary function test the next day and sleep study the following week. The PA emphasized that if I did not keep the sleep study appointment and did not call to cancel I would be charged $100.
I was shown one of the sleep study rooms. The room was cramped with a pulmonary function testing booth, a bed and several filing cabinets. The air conditioning was noisy. I did not think I would sleep very well in that room.
After thinking about my experience I called the next day and cancelled my appointment for the pulmonary function test and sleep study. The place seemed unprofessional and I don't have a lot of confidence in them. I don't want to waste my HMO's money.

The overall experience at this sleep clinic was excellent. The first night sleep diagnostic there was a strong candle or some perfumey scent in the air, so I subsequently called to ask if they could remove this before my next sleepover and explained I am allergic to scented products. When I arrived for my next scheduled sleepover diagnostic, I could smell no scented products, and I really appreciate the positive response to my needs. The sleep technicians and the person who set up and gave my cpap and

to me were all good communicators, knowledgeable and friendly. Information was forwarded to my referring physician in a very timely manner.
They also make follow-up phone calls to make sure your cpap and

are still doing their job for you during the first 30 days after you get it. I will be going back to this clinic for any rechecks or re-titre of the cpap that I need done in the future.

To help me select a
Modesto Sleep Clinics Provider Name Locked
, all the technician did was stand me in front of a bookcase full of masks and ask me which one I wanted to try. There was no guidance given as to which might be best for my face size and/or shape. It made it feel like a total crap shoot. On my first visit, I went home with a nasal

that ended up leaking and I just couldn't fall asleep with it. The next time I went back, I selected another

to try. This one came in different sizes. No guidance was given as to which size would be best for me. I was told that all they had was Small and Large, which did I want to try. After I got home, I went to the manufacturers web site and discovered that they actual have sizing templates for the masks which they supposedly give to the providers. Not at

. Another thing they do is send you home with a "Compliance Monitor" (aka Big Brother) on your CPAP machine. I happen to have my alarm clock-radio on my night stand and the Compliance Monitor interfered with the reception big time. So on my next visit, I told them about this and they recommended I move my alarm clock at least ten feet away. Well, my room's not that big. And who puts their alarm clock ten feet away from their bed? I asked them to please remove Big Brother and they reluctantly did so. This meant I would have to bring the memory card in to them to be read. I was amazed that I couldn't upload it to their website. Maybe you can now.

I appreciated that Dr.
Modesto Sleep Clinics Provider Name Locked
read a report from my Otolaryngologist who recommended two possible surgeries (septoplasty and uvulopalatopharyngoplasty) to help my sleep apnea. She was very honest and explained that surgery might be something to seriously consider because untreated sleep apnea is h****** a person's heart. She said the decision was mine and that she wouldn't strongly recommend surgery one way or the other. Luckily my apnea is mild - others do not have such options other than wearing a CPAP nightly.

Dr. A. Mahadevia is a rare doctor. He is so knowledgeable about how sleep apnea affects not only people who feel fatigue and tired all day long, he pioneered treatment for people like me that have frequent (4x mo) episodes of heart arrythmia and atrial fibrillation, putting me at risk of a stroke. This doctor gave me my life back! Followup with him and his associate

to further diagnosis of asthma and allergy triggers which were interfering with my breathing. Adjustments in my medication in addition to a CPAP have improved my quality of sleep and my life.
I would highly recommend Dr. Mahadevia for any
