"Once the service person FINALLY came to my residence, he didn't seem to know what he was doing as every question I asked him got an answer that seemed made" up as to why my equipment wasn't working. Eventually, I had to call a different pool servicing company to fix my problem. I only go into as a last resort and I won't get service from them at all. When I do go, I only go to purchase supplies or replacement parts. They are historically understaffed and take a long time to help each customer. They're very nice and they give each customer individual attention, but I always dread the overly-long wait. Additionally, I purchased some replacement parts and was told they would contact me once they arrived in the store. 3 weeks later, when I still hadn't received a phone call, I asked when my replacement parts would be in. They had been sitting there for a couple of weeks but nobody called me. They are very nice people, but extremely unprofessional and disorganized. Unfortunately, I sometimes find myself HAVING to shop there for supplies. . . . but I absolutely will not have them do any service for me.

-James S.

"Will def give a call for regular servicing of my pool/spa equipment on a regular basis. I have my furnace and AC tuned up every year, my" autos serviced, why not my pool/spa equipment? Still waiting for other pool/spa vendors to return my call.

My order of preference - first choice a jacuzzi/hot tub repairman (from a jacuzzi/hot tub/sauna distributor), second choice a plumber (many do not work on hot tubs, jacuzzi's and sauna because they cnanot afford to stock parts). An electrician might be able to fix it if it is a connection problem, but such motors are seldom repaired if the problem is internal, just replaced - which would be a jacuzzi repairman/plumber type job.

You will have to find out what your model costs new - looks like they run from about $400 to 1700 depending on size. IF yours is at the lower end, might be just as cheap to replace it, with parts and labor. If not low end, then repair probably works. Typical pricing of components that might have gone out - switch $80, timer/control unit $130, heating element $100 (probably most likely to have failed) - so if only one of these went out, figuring $100-200 labor, probably cheaper to fix it. I would contact your dealer for a better idea.

BTW - here is a Saunatec instruction on maintenance on the heating element and rocks, failure to follow can shorten heating element life, if that is what went out (and probably the simplest to replace) -

I'm sorry to say there aren't many of us on here with adequate experience working on pools, myself included.  My suggestion would be to contact a few local companies specializing in pool renovation and have them give their recommendations and bids for the work, breaking down order of operations so you know what to expect at which stages.  Check Angie's List for referrals in your area and cross check those with the BBB for any unresolved complaints.

Pool And Spa Cleaning reviews in Modesto

This was a complete waste of money, and my husband and I, who have done business with the retail store for five years, are very angry. He came, looked at the pump and said he couldn't fix it, because there are new requirements for pumps and it was illegal for him to repair it. I would have to buy a new one, to the tune of $1500.00! He didn't ...More open it to see what was wrong. One quick look and that was that, until he asked for $107.00! The next day, I had another place look at it. He opened the pump, quickly saw the part that needed replacement. He had a used one in his truck, installed it in one minute, and refused to take a dime! Our pump works great now. If Pools had asked on the phone what kind of pump I had, It would have saved me a lot of money. They know they can't repair old pumps anymore. We feel cheated!

Our pool pump stopped working, so we called 's Pools to come out and look at it. Immediately, he said we need a new pump to the tune of $1500.00. Well, there was no way I could afford that right now. I checked different sites, and could get it cheaper, but it was still too expensive. In case we had no choice, I decided ...More to get some estimates for a new pump installation, so I turned to Angie's list. Because of his excellent rating and location, I emailed through Angie's site, and received a reply within minutes. He said he would come by within a day or two. He arrived the next day. Unlike 's Pools, he opened the pump and noticed a part that was worn down. He went to his truck for a replacement, and replaced the old one. The pump worked. I expected to pay him at least for the part, but he wouldn't take any money, saying it was a used part. Used part or not, I would think he would charge me for sonething, but he didn't. I could kick myself, because we paid $107.00 to 's Pools who did nothing! Live and learn! I cannot recommend and Remodeling more. He is so honest, and that is so refreshing these days!!

The initial contact was very professional. They came and did a free estimate, and quoted us a basic start up as well as the monthly rate, which was only a few dollars more than our previous pool person. The first two weekly services were good, and timely. They communicated with door hangers and did a good job. All of a sudden we started getting "special" ...More services on our bill for filter repair and parts replacement that was not approved. When we called to talk to them they informed us that "we assume that when people want full service they just don't even want to think about their pool anymore". We explained what we expected going forward that all repairs and or parts replacements needed to be first approved by us. They entered the notes into their system and apologized. The next two weeks the service looked as though it wasn't getting vacuumed. On June 30th we called to tell them that the pool person had been there and the same small pile of dirt had been in the same place for two weeks and had not been vacuumed. We received a voice mail the next morning (of the 1st) saying that they would be out on the 2nd to vacuum and they were sorry. By 4pm they had not arrived and we wanted to swim, so we called to make sure they were still coming. The manager took the call and actually began arguing with us, yelling at us telling us that he didn't appreciate being backed into a corner like we were backing him into. We reminded him that we were the customers just inquiring as to what was going on and that we were just following up on what we were told would be happening. He then continued to yell listing many things that needed to be repaired before they would do any vacuuming. To which we replied we had never heard anything about these repairs. He continued on his rant to which we finally said, this is enough and that you don't speak to customers like that. He "promised" it would be done, however with a hint of threat, that if these "repairs" weren't done they wouldn't vacuum anymore. And while I doubt it will, don't ever use this service. Funny enough, the filter is almost 30 years old, and when I clean it or when our old service did it, there were no issues. All of the sudden basically everything needs to be fixed. We were nice, and just wondering about the service as we are both in the service industry we weren't trying to cause problems. But when you pay 150 dollars per month for service you expect what they tell you they're going to do. Good luck if you hire them.

has provided pool chemical service for me for several years now. They generally do a good job and are responsive when we have had a need. They are helpful when contacted.

Excellent service and responded to our crisis within hours. Explained problem and didn't try to sell us a new pump which we didn't need.
In addition he had a huge rolling parts inventory which was trailered with him for access. I would highly recommend Service to anyone needing pool repair.

I was recommended by the pool company that remodeled my pool and added
black pebble tec. I used them for the month long start up service and
was initially impressed with their professionalism. So, i decided to
keep them on service. Initially, they had a experienced employee service
my pool, but then he was reassigned and they ...More gave me a brand new raw
employee who clearly did not understand the concept of adding chemicals
to a black pebble tec pool. every week he would add the chemicals in the
exact same spot and now i have a bleach stain along the side of my
pool. I grew up with pools and i know enough that you NEVER pour in the
chemicals in the same spot.. you walk around the deep end of the pool
and pour the chemicals in at different spots and you avoid the sides of
the pool! You do this to aid in diffusion of the chemicals and to avoid
damaging the sides of the pool. So, i called the company and they had
the "manager" call me to set up an appointment to see the pool.. I
made a Firm appointment for today at 10 am and he did not even bother
to call me to let me know he was going to be late. I had to call the
office twice to find out what his ETA was and to complain about his
unprofessional behavior. He ended up being almost 3 hours late. He then
offered me a lack apology , never once acknowledging that he
should have called me when he knew he was going to be late. This is not
how you run a professional business.. After i explained what the issue
was and he had the nerve to try and put the problem back on me or to imply that the pool was already damaged because the pebble tec was old or that the bleach stain was somehow caused by an outlet opening that has never worked. I told him that the stain did not happen until after i was assigned a trainee and a raw employee. Up until that moment, there was no bleach stain as the employees that they sent me did not pour the chemicals on the side of the pool.
I have to say that office staff were always very nice and professional and I have no issues with them.

My realtor had recommended to me and arranged the initial estimate to be done on my pool and spa. What i wanted was to replace or upgrade the pool and spa equipment if needed; move the equipment 25 ft; re-plaster the pool with a dark color or replace the plaster with a pebble tech product. The estimate came back at between 22,000 ...More to 25,000. I have a small and shallower pool and a small spa so, i could not believe the quote.
I called the sales rep and left a message explaining that that quote was too high and could we work to get the price down through seasonal specials or equipment packages, and I have NEVER heard from him again. I complained to my realtor and they were upset as they give a lot of business.
Since, then i have gotten another quote from a company, Pool specialities, who were very nice and when i showed him the quote from , he told me that was too high for the work to be done.
I will be using Pool specialties for the work as they got back to me with a quote that was much lower than the one from .
