Putting the finishing touches on a remodeled room can be a challenge, but with a bit of practice and patience, your crown molding will look like a master carpenter put it up.

There are lots of occurrences that result in dry rot, though most have to do with proper water management in the home, says Lindus. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member Donna B. of Portland, Oregon)
Remodeling - General, Carpentry - Unfinished

Dry rot is a phenomenon that can impact all varieties of wood. One highly rated provider answers questions about how to identify and eradicate dry rot.

You need a general contractor - prefereably one who specializes in additions, because you have excavation, waterproofing, concrete, concrete cutting, carpentry, door and window, etc trades to coordinate.

The cost will depend a great deal on your topography around the house - if the base of the window will be above ground level at least 6 inches, then could run about $500 for a legal egress window purchase and about $1000-2000 for installation, depending on how deep into the concrete you have to cut.

If the bottom of the window will be below ground level, then to call it a bedroom (which mandates legal sized second egress and usauully at least one window)  then you will have two choices - bring it out into a solid watertight concrete storm cellar with collar to keep water out, stairs, and and weather and bug-tight cellar door that is inward-opening, which means a lot of space for stairs and landings top and bottom, or bring it out into an oversized window well at least 36 inches in diameter, and with steps to ground level, with adequate drainage and waterproofing to keep it dry. Either way, sometimes about as easy to put in an outside door as a window, and might raise property value more. Cost from $2-5,000 depending on how deep into concrete wall you have to dig, whether concrete wsall needs reinforcing with steel frame because of the depth of cut, how easy the digging is, and what your water conditions are near the foundation. The last thing you want to do is create an easy water or vermin ingress with your egress.

Dictated by Federal LAW , you will need a Licensed and EPA Certified HVAC Contractor

to make such repairs . In fact , by law , ONLY A licenesed HVAC contractor can buy or install

said eguipment , NOT A handyman nor general contractor !

YES , You should have an A.C. sleeve surrounding the through the wall unit . These sleeves will usually accompany NEW products , either as a package or an add on equipment purchase.

Contact a Licenesed PROFFESSIONAL at once !

It depends on what type of ramp you need. If it is built out of wood you could look for a carpenter or a deck company. If you are looking for a concrete ramp a mason would be what you are looking for. There are also metal ramps and I believe some medical supply companies may carry them or be able to steer you in the right direction. As for insurance coverage I am not sure. You may have coverage and would be best talking to your agent. Depending on why you need this ramp there may even be programs through your local government or even some of the local charities might help. It might be a project a local Scout Troop might help out on.

This deal felt more like a "bait and switch" than an actual deal. They only offered one type of window shutter, which was the most expensive. Therefore, the "$400" credit for the $99.00 I already paid barely made a
Modesto General Contractors Provider Name Locked
in the total cost for even my smallest window, which, by the way, is a smaller than an average size window. Not to mention that I requested the salesman to email me a quote of all the windows he took measurements for so that I could have a complete picture of the outrageous cost, which I have yet to receive. Definitely won't be using or recommending them. Just $99.00 wasted!

My experience with
Modesto General Contractors Provider Name Locked
at
Modesto General Contractors Provider Name Locked
was great from the beginning. His response to my Angie's List inquiry was fast and he even arrived the same day to go over the project with me. His partner
Modesto General Contractors Provider Name Locked
took great notes and they offered advice on what needed to be done and what could be avoided. ...More /> My initial project list was ambitious and the price I was quoted was higher than I could pay.
Modesto General Contractors Provider Name Locked
was very accommodating and was able to offer me some savings. Ultimately, I had to cut down the list to my "needs" versus my "needs and wants."
Modesto General Contractors Provider Name Locked
was then able to come in at a price that I thought was fair. And considering all the work they did do for me -- I now realize his price was VERY fair!
Modesto General Contractors Provider Name Locked
's team arrived each day on time and was very professional. And also very protective of my home -- putting down paper and ram-board in all rooms where work was performed. I am super anal about my home and I appreciated the care they took to show my home the utmost respect.
The work performed (mentioned in another section) was done incredibly well. Obviously the most stressful part about changing things in your home is,"will it all match and not look like a wall was added, etc." And I'm very happy to say that all the work looks like it has always been part of the house! Everything
Modesto General Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his team did in my home was great and my wife and I couldn't be happier.
In fact, we are using them to tackle a couple of new projects! And will continue to use them in the future for sure.

In the beginning things went very very well. They gave me a quote and I paid up front. The work started to become quite sloppy and I started to investigate why. Come to find out the work was being rushed and in the end the crew was pulled off my job to work on the owners home. I had asked for an itemized list, there was more work to be done, after I realized that I was not going to receive a list, I stopped work and have now asked for my money back. It has been a week and they have stopped taking my calls. Many jobs were started like tiling and sheet rock that were started but left half done. There has been some improvement in my home but these unfinished jobs make things look worse.

Not very well. Very poor workmanship. Roofing had to be corrected after first heavy rain. Tub wasn't properly installed. Tub caulk was cracked the day after being done. It was then replaced and cracked again the day after. They have never returned to correct this issue again even though they said they would get back to us. Shower wall was loose from the bathroom wall , approx. a 4 inch length span, never corrected .
Bathroom walls, door frame, wooden trim were all damaged during installation of the tub. Owner said he would repair the damage at no cost IF WE PAID for the supplies to do so , which we did. Sheetrock mud was thrown on the walls in a couple places, never sanded, a few places were painted but not very good. Original plan was to replace bathroom ceiling but owner said there was no need and just painted the ceiling, in the process painted on all the wood trim also.
Wall that was damaged also housed the bathroom vent fan switch which was knocked loose during the tub installation and it no longer works.
Owner didn't show up at a scheduled time to discuss correcting the mistakes on the roof and the tub. Several hours later he returned my call and said he didn't come because it was raining. He did finally come to our house but was very angry and drove very recklessly in our driveway and down our road where children are present.
Overall, very bad experience. We are in the process of finishing the repair ourselves as we would never trust this business again.

The post installation blower door test showed worsening in home ir sealing. Unfortunately, Mr.
Modesto General Contractors Provider Name Locked
failed to fulfill the obligation stated in the contract and meet the minimum standards required by the BGE program. A formal BGE audit and QC of the work was done and specifically, the following gross deficiencies in the work were identified following completion of the work: Knee wall not treated as program requires or contract specified Attic hatches not gasketed Air sealing does not meet rebate requirements Bath fan ducting does not meet minimal industry installation standards Combustion appliance safety does not meet program requirements. In addition, we learned after the fact that at the time the work was done, Mr.
Modesto General Contractors Provider Name Locked
was under suspension of participating in the BGE program and following the audit of the work done at our property, he was expelled from the program. To date he has failed to provide any explanation for the shoddy work or refund.
