"They got the bid into the state of Minnesota before the deadline and I because of this I am eligible for the made in Minnesota solar rebate program. The panels haven't" gone in yet but so far they have been punctual and professional. They were the only company of the 4 I contacted to act so quickly to get my bid in for this program and I am grateful for that. When the panels are installed, I will update this review.

"Though I was excited about the possibility of solar, immediately tried to move my expectations down because of my very limited roof space," and large trees shading it. What a refreshing type of salesman! He is knowledgable, told me how everything worked, but still wanted to let me know that my small roof, angled in the wrong way, towards trees, wouldn't give me much benefit. Shortly thereafter, I received a report via email giving me the payback analysis that confirmed the advice he was estimating in person while on my roof. He was creative, and gave me the best options, but the bottom line was that I don't get enough sun to justify installation of a large system. If I move to a different house that isn't shaded so much, I will be giving a call, because I know they will be helpful, knowledgable, and honest.

Angie's Answers

Are you talking about powering your home solely on solar (i.e. no back up power source or off grid).

The power, once convered from DC to AC via the inverter, is suitable for use by the home.

Most solar application are in supplement to the current powering of the home and will spin the meter back in the day but are not the primary.

OK - that should strike Atlantic Plumbing off your vendor list !

You say female pipe to copper pipe connection - I hope you are not saying they connected copper directly to galvanized or black iron pipe. If so, there should have been a dielectric union put in there to prevent corrosion, which could be part of your problem.

Also, generally a bad idea to use teflon tape for hot water tank connections - too much thermal cycling, loosens it up over time. Should use plumbers dope for that application.

It sounds to me like a connection problem - if the tank itself was leaking it should be flooding the top of the tank or more likely running down through the insulation and dripping out the bottom.

Unless you are a do it yourselfer, sounds like you need to find a new plumber with good reviews and rating in your area - Search the List (in green banner bar). This should be an easy fix - should have him put in dielectric couplings (about $5-10 each depending on pipe size) if current connection is iron to copper, and even if not, have him redo connection not only for cold but also hot water - if one was done poorly, probably both were.

Solar Panel Installation reviews in Minneapolis

The installation went fine. The crew was professional and good. They were wonderful. They did a lot of work going to through the options with us. The main salesman was slightly over optimistic. The quality was great.

was very clear up front on the outside forces that would cause delays in the installation and the initial power-up of my system including weather and approval from the power company. They made dealing with the regulatory and corporate tape a minimal of effort on my part. They also detailed all the rebates available to me and ...More how to take advantage of them if they weren't already doing the legwork. The system is up and running and saving me about $1 per day in electrical costs.

Pretty good. Some lag time from estimate to actual installation. Installation was rescheduled three times due to weather and work load. Overall satisfied with quality of work.

It couldn't have gone better. We really love working with and because they are all about what's possible. When we said we wanted more panels, they didn't talk about the difficulties of integrating two separate systems, but instead chose to focus on the possibilities. Their enthusiasm and ...More positivity encouraged us to learn more and make more changes in our lives. They made not only our electric bill go to nothing, they help us live better.

We really appreciated that they cared about the things we cared about. We give special attention to the aesthetics of our 1924 bungalow, so they took care to check with us about not only where the panels were placed, they checked with us about the location of circuit boxes, wire conduits and other equipment.

Their customer service is superb. The first time we had hail, they were willing to check out the solar panels on our house (we could see the panels on our garage were fine). And when the inverter failed (the electronic box that converts DC electricity to AC), they responded quickly, and made all the arrangements necessary to have it replaced at no cost to us. When we were first connected to the grid, we had problems with our Xcel bill, but in particular really advocated for us, including helping us write a letter to the Public Utilities Commission, which got our problem straightened out right quick!

and have consistently been available for questions or concerns as they've arisen (mostly due to our misunderstanding of how the systems work). They're easily reached by phone, email, and through Facebook. Rarely has it taken them more than a half a business day to get back to us.

This is a great company--I would call them for any future solar system needs. The glass on one of our thermal collectors had shattered ( as tempered glass does sometimes) when we pulled snow off it last December. We tried for months to get it fixed by the company that originally installed the system (another Minneapolis solar installation company) ...More and the repair kept getting delayed because they said it was too difficult to get the glass panel. I had to find someone else, because it was being put off for 4 months. I found on Angie's List. I called them and spoke with who said they would get back to me within 24 hours--and they called back much sooner than that! put in my order right away with the manufacturer, drove from the Twin Cities to MN and back to pick up just 1 glass panel and they installed it within 2 weeks!!! Their customer service is superb. The price was just as quoted (also $350 less than the other company). They were right on time and above all did great work. This is no doubt the best solar company in the Twin Cities. I am very grateful to them.

This was a very positive experience for us from start to finish. To receive the electric company rebate we needed to get our application in months before the planned installation. (one of the company owners) was very knowledgeable about the application process. Once we were approved, LGR allowed us to schedule the installation ...More at our convenience. kept us informed throughout the process and installation went pretty much exactly as he had planned. The system has been up and running for three months now and is operating flawlessly. We have a monitoring system that tracks the performance of each of our 15 solar panels, which is great.
