Plumbing reviews in Minneapolis
|As a new member, this was my first time using Angie's List for a
service. I found a "Big Deal" for main drain cleaning advertised for $99
business owner stated I did not need to purchase through Angie's List
online and he would honor the deal price when service was provided the
following day. He also stated there would be an additional "travel
charge" to bring the total charge to $138.
|The drain cleaning was performed the following day, in less than one
hour, in a professional manner and to our satisfaction.
|However, when the in-home worker called business owner on phone to
process credit card payment at time of service, the owner stated to
worker that I had been concerned about charges going over $200. But this
was not the case, as my situation fit the basic main-drain deal
parameters, which we had discussed this on the phone the day before. The
business owner had me confused with a different customer. This seemed
to indicate that business owner did not keep notes about customers and
their situations, and was confident making statements that did not
apply. This undermined my confidence in the company and made me wonder
what other statements he might have made about me or my house that were
inaccurate and that I did not know about.
|Additionally, I was disappointed that the "Big Deal" was advertised for
$99, but the actual cost turned out to be $138 when a "travel charge"
was added. It seemed misleading to advertise a lower price, then tack on
a 40% charge for "traveling" to the customer's home to perform the
service, which is an INHERENT part of providing residential drain
cleaning. My home is located in the company's stated service area, so
why is "traveling" to the customer's home not included in the price?
|For example, I recently got two bids to have a new entry door installed
at my home. Both bids included the cost for the door and for the
installation/labor. However, there was no cost listed for 'travel' to my
location to install the doors. This is because 'traveling' to a
customer's home is an inherent part of the work of installing new doors,
and the cost of going to the customer's location is built into the
quoted price. It is not tacked on as a separate item to increase the
price or make the initial price appear lower.
|When I inquired of
in the "Big Deal" price, business owner was reluctant to answer, and
would say only that it was his business and he chose to structure
charges that way. My question prompted business owner to ultimately
offer a refund of the travel charge. However, two days later, business
owner retracted the refund offer. This was not only surprising, but
seemed retaliatory for my questioning the pricing structure. What kind
of business offers their customer a refund, then turns around and states
that they will NOT give the refund?
|Other areas of concern were that business owner stated he did not have
my phone number, however, my phone number was taken by business owner on
the phone at time of booking and recorded on caller ID. It was also
written on the business receipt at time of service. In addition, my
phone is listed and easily found in the Minneapolis phone book or online
|Business owner also stated that date of service was a month ago, when
at the time it was only three weeks. This is another factor seeming to
indicate that company may not keep accurate records of customer
transactions, or at least that company does not reference its records
for correct information when dealing with the customer.
|The business owner also stated that the travel charge is waived for
senior citizens. However, the
states "Senior Discount: No."
