"Dr
was very kind, knowledgeable and helpful. I had gone to my GP complaining of back and leg pain. He referred me to Dr
" due to an MRI I had. Despite the fact that I should have been referred to my original surgeon Dr
helped me. I was suffering from back pain sciatica and leg pain. I first met Dr
over 20 years ago when he operated on my 13 year old sons hip. He saved my son from having to have an artificial hip. I thought of him when I developed two cases of frozen shoulder over the past 2 years. During the second case of frozen shoulder he helped me with a ruptured disc in my back by sending me for an MRI and also referred me to a surgeon I highly recommend Dr

"After evaluating a couple of doctors, I decided on Dr.
because he had performed so many procedures and was overly confident in his ability" to do a perfect procedure, even speaking of his surgery on his mother. Being in my 40's, this was important to me, knowing I would need surgery again and being active. Afterwards, I was stunned to find that he mis-measured the cut and my leg was just under an inch longer than my other leg. Much to my dismay, he tried to tell my at my first follow-up that it was because of muscle loss. After PT and other consultations, he admitted his mistake and suggested shoe lifts for my other shoe, or possible other follow-up surgery. I am not sure how a practiced surgeon could make such a grievous mistake but now I am paying for it until some day in the future where I will have it redone, since having a perfectly good leg operated on doesn't make a lot of sense. I constantly limp, stand to the side and live with the pain. While anyone can make a mistake, as my husband is a carpenter, I also think that "measure twice, cut once" would have been the thought of the day instead of trying to see how fast a surgery can get done.

Orthopedics: Knees

Some orthopedic doctors specialize in the bones, muscles and tendons of the knee, from treating ACL tears and arthritis to performing knee replacement surgery.

Does being overweight put you at higher risk of knee replacement surgery? Yes, but a small increase in activity and decrease in weight can make a difference.

As differences between men and women's knees are better understood, effective treatments can be targeted specific to women with knee pain, says Closkey. (Photo by Karen Geswein)

Sounds like you should be pursuing a disability claim.  Also, you could speak to your previous doctor frankly about your concerns.
Have they made orthotics for your shoes that distribute your weight better?

Hi,

This is James W. with Member Care. Thanks for posting your question.

It looks like when you signed up online on 8/5/2014, that you accidentally joined our greater Portland chapter instead of our Salem/Corvallis chapter that your zip code falls under. I have transferred your subscription to that chapter, so you will now have access to the correct area.

The pain had increased over the years and numbness had set in. I went to Dr Companioni and his first reaction was that the numbness did not concern him. I had an MRI done and after that I was in so much pain I could barely walk. I called his office and they told me I could come in that same day as he was on vacation the next week. I got there at 2:30 at my scheduled time and waited for an hour. I found there was blood on the exam table. When the doctor came in, he was not even there for 5 minutes and he said the MRI looked fine. He told me the pain and numbness did not concern him and that in his opinion I needed physical therapy to strengthen the muscles in my legs. When I went to leave the office, I asked for the MRI and they said they did not have it. They said he pulled it up through a site online. I was told he would have the physical MRI when I had this done but the office is now contradicting that. They seem to have no care or concern that I am in extreme pain. I will never go there again.

I needed both knees replaced and we went to Dr. VanFlandern because a family friend had an excellent result. My knees were in rough shape and it was less than a month from when I first saw him until surgery was scheduled.

Dr. VanFlandern gave me his number in case I had questions. He called me the night before I entered the hospital to make sure I was all set. He called my wife after surgery and visited me the next morning and every other morning I was there at 5:30AM.

Everything has gone well with the knee replacement and I believe he did an outstanding job. The incisions are very neat and healed rapidly. He is consistently rated one of Boston's "Top Docs" and deserves the title.

I ended up receiving PRP injections through another provider and I am hoping that after the soreness I will be well. I will not return to Dr.

. He IS a nice man but he simply has too many patients to be able to really listen and understand pain levels, etc.

Dr.
Minneapolis Knee Replacement Surgeons Provider Name Locked
previously performed a total knee replacement for me and he was wonderful. I am very happy with the results and the care I received. This time around, he did arthroscopic surgery on my shoulder and I couldn't be more pleased. The procedure was explained in detail, including pictures from the surgery. All my questions were answered and he worked with me to design a physical therapy plan. Dr.
Minneapolis Knee Replacement Surgeons Provider Name Locked
is very practical, explains procedures in easily understandable terms, and offers options to his patients. I feel very confident in recommending him to anyone with knee or shoulder issues! He is very professional, thorough, and inspired confidence in me as a patient. I will continue to seek his advice for orthopedic problems.

The surgery was very successful. Now, two months later, my wife is walking again with only occasional support of a cane (which she will not need in the near future), but most importantly, she is walking without pain! What a difference from her condition before the hip replacement. We highly recommend Dr.

and his staff.

II had the surgery in April of 2014 at the Hospital For Special Surgery in NYC. The first two weeks were amazingly easy. I was told to do as much as I could and I did. The beginning of the third week, I started to go downhill. I was told it was tendenitis. Since I have had tendonitis, I was doubtful. I was now on a walker and crutches. I kept getting progressively worse. The crutches were beginning to affect my wrists, arms and shoulders and my right leg which had had a gluteus medius tendon reattached in 2008, was beginning to feel the stress of all the weight being placed on that leg. Dr.

told me that the bone was not liking the post and it could take six months. This was very different from the 4 week recovery that I was
Minneapolis Knee Replacement Surgeons Provider Name Locked
to believe would be the case. There was no disclosure that it could be anything but perfect. I was told by Dr.
Minneapolis Knee Replacement Surgeons Provider Name Locked
that I was not putting enough weight on the leg and that I shouldn't use crutches but a cane. I couldn't. I knew the pain was shocking and intense and kept communicating this, but the xray showed nothing. Finally an mri revealed that there was a fissure in the femur bone. At four months, Dr.
Minneapolis Knee Replacement Surgeons Provider Name Locked
told me recovery could take up to a year, but that at six months, if I really couldn't stand it, he could do a revision by entering again, shortening the post and filling the cavity with glue. At that point, I began looking for a second opinion. I left Dr.
Minneapolis Knee Replacement Surgeons Provider Name Locked
at 4 months. Cancelled appts and never showed up again. I was never contacted by him or the Hospital for Special Surgery (or rather The Hospital for Special Surgeons), to see how I was or why I had disappeared.
I found Dr. Patrict Meere, whose speciality is revision, at NY
Minneapolis Knee Replacement Surgeons Provider Name Locked
's Bone and Joint in NYC. He did an MRI and indicated that there was inflamation around the post and that it looked like it wouldn't heal. He said a proper revision would be a posterior replacement as the position of the post in the anterior surgery angled the post towards the femur. If you are old or slightly overweight, there is the possibility that the minute you put weight on the leg, the post breaks through the femur which it had in my case. He did not recomment entering through the anterior place again as there were nerves that could be permenently damaged and did not recommend glue and a smaller post as the femur was injured and he didn't think glue on live, injured bone tissue was a good idea. He suggested a longer post which bypassed the fissure in the femur giving it time to heal and NO GLUE.
I had the surgery with Dr. Meere in October of 2014. In three weeks I was walking with a cane. In six weeks I was back walking without any help. I was contacted by NY Bone and Joint to see how the surgery had gone after two months, and if I had needed any revision or other aid after the surgery. I was very pleased with the follow up of NY Bone and Joine.
I highly advise anyone considering Anterior Hip Surgery to get a second opinion from a Posterior Hip Surgery Surgeon.
Dr. Meere says that he is not recommending it for anyone as he is seeing them fail at six months, 1 1/2 years, etc. He said Dr.
Minneapolis Knee Replacement Surgeons Provider Name Locked
surgery was good, but the surgery shouldn't have been recommended for me. By the way, In Dr.
Minneapolis Knee Replacement Surgeons Provider Name Locked
patient notes, he says that I was told that revision would be a possibility, which was a lie. He never painted anything but blue skies about the surgery and my recovery forecast.
Please be careful before you opt for this anterior surgery. I found only positive comments about it on the web. But six months on crutches is brutal. At 73, it is very h****** the rest of your body. I would have been so much better not risking this kind of outcome and doing the posterior surgery from the very beginning. I wanted a speedy recovery. What I got was complete failure. When Dr. Meere opened me up at six months, the ball and post fell out. There was zero healing. Had I not found Dr. Meere, I would have been in serious trouble. Thanks to Dr. Meere, I am now walking two miles a day with my dog.

Very professional, honest. Old school but very educated and knowledgeable. I feel comfortable & confident in his ability to help me with my knees. He is the first doctor that did not just want to rush me into surgery. He was very honest about weight, and go to physical therapy. He treated my condition rather than just operate. Gave supartz injections to help with the pain. Overall very honest, not money hungry, and very capable. The only issue is when he would have to rush into surgery and I had to reschedule, other than that I was very pleased.
