"Excellent quality, service, responsiveness, communication, and workmanship. We had

"I collected three bids for this job and found them all comparable. However, I felt right away that
was the person I wanted to do the work. He showed up when" he said he would, presented himself like someone who had practical knowledge instead of just a "one size fits all" sales pitch, and completed the estimate in a timely manner. He communicated well with me; he didn't talk down to me because I wasn't a painting expert or because I was a woman. He understood the challenges of working on an old house and seemed to have both the expertise and the resources to make sure the work was done correctly. Now that the house has been painted, I can tell you that going with
was hands-down the best contractor decision I've made in twelve years of owning homes. His communication continued to be excellent. He had solid advice about paint and stain, which I needed. He works with a tight-knit crew of friendly guys who also know their stuff. When he had more than one job going, he still stopped by to make sure everything was being done the right way. At times he was still working long after he had given his crew the OK to go home. He even showed up on a Saturday to take care of some details. My house looks GREAT, better than I thought it could look, and though he went above and beyond in service, he came out under budget!

Remodeling tip: Should painting or flooring come first?

Angie Hicks responds to a member who wants to know whether interior painting should come before or after the installation of hardwood flooring.

Utilizing the proper tools can ensure the best paint job possible.

Interior Painting

Professional decorators say painting is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to dramatically change the look of a room. It's also one of the more accessible do-it-yourself projects for the homeowner, though a professional interior painting company will likely do a better and more long-lasting job.

Have you ever had a leaky roof leave a water stain on your ceiling? Has your home settled over the years and you are starting to see stress fractures and nail heads popping out of the drywall?

These are the most common problems with ceilings, and unless they are addressed, they can be quite an eyesore. If you are ready to tackle the project yourself, follow these simple tips and you will have a freshly painted ceiling in no time.

That's very difficult to answer without seeing the house. As one poster said, the prep is the most important part. On newer homes that don't have a lot of peeling paint, the prep can be very minimal even as low as a couple or a few hundred dollars for the prep labor.

On a 100 year old home with 12 coats of peeling paint on it, then the prep costs can be very high and can easily exceed 50% of the job's labor cost.

A 2100 sq ft two story home could easily cost $1000 just for the labor to prep for the paint job. That number could climb too. Throw in lots of caullking  or window glazing, and you could be talking a couple or a few hundred dollars more for labor.

Painting that home with one coat of paint and a different color on the trim could run roughly $1000 or more just for labor. Add a second coat  and that could cost close to another $1000 for labor.

For paint, you may need 20 gallons of paint. You can pay from $30-$70 for a gallon of good quality exterior paint. The manufacturer of the paint should be specified in any painting contract. Otherwise, the contractor could bid at a Sherwin-Williams $60 per gallon paint and then paint the house with $35 Valspar and pocket the difference. $25 dollars per gallon times 20 gallons? That's a pretty penny too.

That was the long answer to your question. The short answer is $2000 to $4000 and up, depending upon the amount of prep, the number of coats, the amount of trim, and the paint used.

Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.

Without seeing the project I'm not sure exactly what is happening.  HOWEVER, I've never heard of someone "floating" over paint blisters - just logically that can't work.  If air or moisture are trapped (because that's what causes blisters) painting over them won't fix the initial problem.

I have a couple suggestions - My first would have been to contact the paint manufacturer - whether it's sherwin williams, benjamin moore, behr, etc. to see if they would send a rep out to give their recommendation.  We have done this before starting a project to get the best possible recommendation for work to be done and have found them to be very helpful in diagnosing what is currently going on and the best way to fix it.

If that doesn't work, I would call either the better business bureau or maybe the local paper if your contractor isn't willing to work through the problem with you.  Also, If your contractor warrantied the work I might re-read that to see what they cover if anything.

My guess is that there will have to be some sort of dispute resolution process.

Hope this helps!

Yes - absolutely!  Refinishing is THE VERY BEST way to go to avoid tearing out a perfectly good bathtub that just LOOKS bad after years of use.  Go to the link below for some before and after refinishing pictures of acrylic tubs.

Our house is the typical '50s rambler. We have been doing some modest improvements over the past couple years, but the living room and kitchen were in great need of new paint, and soon, as I was hosting a bridal shower for my niece in late April. My husband,
Minneapolis Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
, and I were unwillingly to DIY - no time for it and we knew our attempt would look pretty awful. As a homeowner, this was one of the most positive experiences I have had with a vendor. From the first interview with
Minneapolis Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
, getting the quote, having her help me decide on colors through the day of the painting,
Minneapolis Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
was pleasant and very easy to work with. Her quote was timely and easy to understand. She explained what could/could not be done via patching. There were a couple little extras I asked for which she added at a reasonable price. I had a hard time choosing colors and
Minneapolis Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
's tips were very helpful and much appreciated. I never realized I could ask for a paint color 25% (or 50%) lighter or darker. On the scheduled day, she and her team were prompt and very efficient.
Minneapolis Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
and I are still amazed that they were able to get it all completed in one day (done by 4:30!). It all looks so nice! We actually like our little old house again and are not embarrassed to have guests visit. We have received so many compliments on the quality of the paint job. We would not hesitate to call on

again the next time we have a painting project. This was money well spent.

and his crew removed my combination storm/screens and painted my house trim and window sashes and then replaced the combination storm/screens. I had decided to change the color of my trim. They did a nice job and were able to paint the new color over my pre-painted aluminum wrapped soffit and fascia. They also did some carpentry to replace/repair some areas that had rotting wood. They also painted my garage trim. It looks great and they did it all in just 3-4 days. I would certainly use them again and would recommend them to friends.

It went fantastic. I used Angie's List SnapFix who matched me with Dode's Painting at a quote of $300.00. Using SnapFix was new to me (as was Dode's) but it worked out for both of us pretty well. Angie's List sent him a video of the room with pictures and he had a couple of quick follow up questions.
He showed up on time and was ready to rock at painting the stairwell. I bought paint beforehand and he started to work. The staircase is larger than it appears in terms of some prep work like removing the railing but he worked hard at painting. While he worked we had a good conversation (he is a very nice guy).
After he finished, he showed my wife and I how to use a 5 in 1 tool instead of wasting our time painting. My wife (mostly my wife) and I spent time painting the rest of the house before Dode. A lot of our time was spent on taping and to be shown a nice technique with the 5 in 1 tool to give a great professional finishing touch, I don't think we will tape again.
But then again, to see his work, we might just hire him again because he did a nice job.

The project could not have gone more smoothly. Even when we were requesting an estimate,
Minneapolis Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
was careful to walk us through each step in the planned painting process and worked with us in selecting a color combination that would work and stand up. Despite a busy schedule (due to the prolonged wet and cold spring),
Minneapolis Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
's crew showed up when promised. After power washing the entire exterior and allowing it to dry thoroughly, the crew worked in sequenced shifts. A lead team scraped down and filled the wood trim, the next team primed our well-preserved but old chalky stucco with a special primer to clean and improve adhesion of the surface, then
Minneapolis Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
sprayed a special
Minneapolis Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
formula for stucco using a power sprayer. They finished by priming and putting two coats on the trim. The work was very carefully done with attention to detail. Even though we were switching some surfaces from a dark brown to a light cream paint, the paint was evenly applied and shows no signs of the old paint. There was no overspraying, and the trim pieces were painted cleanly and evenly. The crew cleaned up after themselves every day. Finally, after we had old storm windows replaced this year, they came back and completely repainted the exposed trim (not just the bare spots) for a very reasonable amount.
Our project has received rave reviews from all our neighbors (and several passers-by) and left us with the feeling that we have made the house "ours." I would definitely recommend them (and in fact have done so).

The walls in this room are wood paneled and were a pain to paint ourselves, so we hired Dode. He did a fantastic job and was thorough and quick. A third coat of the color might've been good to do, but I don't have any complaints about how it looks.
