"I wrote in the past about preferring the patronage of low overhead businesses. The majority are owner/operators that work out of their homes. Customers are the beneficiaries of reasonable bids, streamlined communication, and flexible policies. I experienced these advantages by doing business with .
works out of his house and garage. The inherently low fixed costs are passed onto the consumer. Consequently his bid was significantly lower than his storefront competitors. He required 17% less fabric and there is no additional cost if you bring in your own.
His detail work was a pleasant surprise. He stitched in piping along the entire . This enhanced the elegance and beauty of piece.
His business is located in a working class section on St. ?s east side. I drove over 20 miles one way. Who knows how many storefront shops I passed along the way? It was definitely worth the trip."

"I have a cedar chest that belonged to my mother so it is at least 60-years old and in pretty rough shape. It has sentimental value to me so having it refinished was important. came out to see it (none of the other providers I called did) and new exactly the make and style when he saw it. I thought his price was fair and could tell that he was passionate about his work. I dropped it off at his shop about a week or so later. It took 3-4 weeks for them to complete the job and it was stunning when I went to pick it up - well worth the money - it looks brand new. I'd recommend to anyone that needs restoration done on an old piece of furniture. "

"My sofa turned out absolutely gorgeous. I'm extremely pleased with . They're a family business in Hills, knowledgeable and friendly. My sofa has some unique styling, including teak trim, and I wasn't sure if reupholstering might require sacrifice of some of the original features. But it turned out as good as new. did beautiful work. They offer a large selection of fabrics, and helped me choose one that was perfect for the style of the sofa. All in all, a super experience!"

"Contacted and scheduled a time for him to stop by and give an estimate and bring fabric swatches. then contacted me when the fabric was in and picked up the chairs. He contacted me again once the chairs were completed for delivery. Prompt, responsive, excellent workmanship and chairs were actually completed ahead of schedule."

"The work turned out fine. We had purchased the chairs years ago and we could not find replacement chairs that we wanted. The furniture company gave me their name and I called them. The guy came and picked up the cushions; they were seat and back cushions that were fabric. He put a vinyl replacement on them and he had it done within two days. He brought them back. We were very happy and he was a nice fellow. The price was very good and it included the material."

"I called Mr. on the recommendation of a friend, saying I had a large glider that needed a repair. He insisted I bring in the glider as soon as possible. The friend who recommended him helped me deliver the glider. Upon seeing the damage, he estimated the price at $43. The turned out to be too large for his crowded workspace, so the friend had to come back the next day with it. The friend informed Mr. that it might take a business day or so to arrange to pick up the glider, and Mr. agreed.
The repair was quickly completed and Mr. called on Wednesday or Thursday to ask me to have it picked up. He reiterated the $43 charge. My friend broke a bone in his foot and was unable to drive to pick it up. Mr. became very irate that we wouldn't be able to pick the glider up immediately (even though we had said at the beginning we might not be able to) and began bullying me, because his workroom was too small and the glider was taking up too much space. I finally agreed to allow his sons to deliver the glider on Sunday, and he told me it would be $35 on top of the base cost of $85. I asked him why the base cost had doubled, since he told me after completing the repair that the price would be $43. He insisted that his estimate and cost had been $85 throughout (however, my friend remembers hearing the $43; we were both surprised at how inexpensive it was) but reduced the delivery charge to $20.
When his son dropped off the glider, I paid $105 but repeated my dismay at the change in price and intent to contact the BBB. The son insisted that it was a great repair, and no one else could do such a good job, and he was "just the delivery guy." His behavior was unprofessional and dishonest, and I was glad a friend was with me to accept the delivery.
I called Mr. back one last time before going to the BBB. He was again extremely unpleasant, but finally agreed to refund the difference. In the end, I paid only the original quoted price plus the $20 delivery charge. Though he had taken my name and spelling several times, he addressed the envelope to "occupant" and the check to "cash"; fortunately, I was able to deposit it. He also sent a long letter explaining how he had only taken the repair out of pity for me, because no one else in town would be able to fix the glider, and told me not to refer him to anyone, EVER, no matter how much they needed their furniture repaired.
So far as I can tell, the quality of the work is good. If Mr. had given me the $85 price when he had first completed the repair, I would have paid it happily. However, his extremely unprofessional and bullying behavior means that I recommend against his services. In addition, I suspect that men may have a better experience with him than I did."

"We visited the store and got to try various categories of foam to see which we preferred. They then gave us an estimate of how much the work would cost. When we dropped off the old cushions they gave us an estimate of when they would be done, but they completed the work several days ahead of time and gave us a call. When we picked up the cushions we were delighted. We are enjoying our old sofa again."

"We fired him even after he offered to work for free. We started doing some research because his "stories" did not add up and we caught him in several . We went to the Florida Department of Professional Licenses at www.myfloridalicense.com and we found disciplinary action was taken against him. We were able to confirm this was the same man with the the state. Restitution and penalties were assessed and the homeowner had to collect from the recovery fund. We were told typically this means a contractor took funds and did not do the work. Look him up yourself ( J. ) and you will find the same information we did. He moved to Minnesota shortly after this action was taken by the State of Florida. Also the State of Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry issued a Cease and Desist order against him in the Spring of 2007 for unlicensed activity and again in early 2010. We were told he was not eligible to get a license in Minnesota because he could not pass a background check... Go to their web site and check it out or give them a call. We had to spend almost $10,000 fixing his errors, poor workmanship and lack of knowledge around construction methods and the building codes. The professionals we brought in to fix his work could not believe how poorly everything was done. The cabinet drawers started falling apart a month after he installed them and we found out the windows that were such a "good deal" had to be safety glass so they ended up costing more than if we had just gone to a home improvement store and bought new ones. He got mad when we refused to pay for his mistakes which included pantry doors he built but failed to measure so they did not fit. Had I known about all his legal troubles both in Minnesota and Florida I would have never let him in our home. The final straw was when the State of Minnesota asked us to testify against him because he was collecting unemployment illegally. What a nightmare. After a year, everything he did is falling apart. He states he never worked for us, but I have the "invoices" to prove it. Also, how would he know about the specifics of the safety glass? Again, what a nightmare."

" came out to look at the items, and referred us to a colleague for the water stain repairs, which were done quickly and professionally. But he never called us back for the other repairs. We called and left messages several times over many weeks, and even spoke to him on the phone once (he claimed was en route to an appointment and could not discuss the work), but he never contacted us about an estimate. He could have had the decency to politely decline the work, instead of ignoring us until we gave up."

"He arrived on time first for the bid and also to pick up the piece. He took the amount of time he said it would. He was very friendly and professional."
