"I am doing a minor remodeling project in my upstairs bathroom. I am doing most of the work, but still need the occasional assistance from electrician and plumbing professionals. For instance and in this case, as I remodel different rooms, I try to update the
electrical switches and outlets where needed and possible. I can only afford small jobs, so when I take the plunge to call a professional, I want to ensure I am getting the best service possible at a reasonable rate. So, I joined Angie's List and found Brother's Electric. They were top-rated. I called them, they answered the phone, and I was able to set up an appointment for a day and time that suited me nicely.
arrived promptly at the time set. He removed his shoes. I showed him to the bathroom where the work was to be done. He listened as I described what I wanted, asked a few pertinent questions, and got right to work.
did exactly what I needed him to do and he did a superb job! He even tidied up the two
non-functional outlet openings to make it easier for me to patch! Very
helpful! And, he was able to use the materials I purchased at the hardware
store, saving me money!
Additionally, I asked about some electrical issues in my kitchen. He patiently
answered questions to my satisfaction and understanding. I asked
if he had any ideas for what to do with the conduit and wires sticking out of the
wall from an old light fixture I had removed from over the kitchen sink
years ago. Very unsightly! suggested installing another light. He had a light of the sort I needed in his
truck and offered to show it to me. It was sleek and just what I was
looking for. He told me the cost and that if I wanted it installed, he
had enough time to do it without going over one hour of total labor. So,
I asked him to go ahead. He did and it looks great. To top it all off, I
happened to mention that I chose Brother's Electric from Angie's List and reminded me that I could use the coupon they offered! He reminded me!! Super nice and extremely professional.
I am giddy because everything worked out so perfectly! Thanks so much, !

"I got a free in-house estimate from the company approximately a week earlier. He verified that I need a new box and I scheduled an appointment for service over the phone.
The technician came in the morning on-time and worked on it until it was finished. A few days later a city inspector came and checked off all the work.
I'm really happy with the work they did - will hire again."

" did some terrific troubleshooting to determine why several light
fixtures in an area were not working. You could tell he was knowledgeable, competent, and
experienced. It was almost fun watching him as he pinpointed the
problem. He determined that two of relatively-new matching fixtures were defective and, by mere coincidence, a vintage fixture in the same area died around the same time. After seeing his skills and how efficiently he worked, I began to add to the list of requests. Before he left, he replaced a total of three light fixtures and the bath exhaust fan, repaired a vintage fixture, and added a new GFI outlet in the bathroom. He was good-natured and explained everything as he worked (without a hint of condescension).
I have no reservations about recommending him to others and will definitely use him again."

"I am impressed with the quality of service level that I received from this company. , the electrician, faced a fairly difficult job as he was replacing lights in a slant roof. He had to do some do some cuttings to get the light fixtures to fit. He did the work very well. I did not have to do any work on the dry wall despite the cutting that had to do. Not only did do the electrical work very well, but he left the work area very clean and neat. was always on time also. I recommend this company and for those with tough electrical problems."

"Replacing the staircase light fixture was a difficult job requiring the use of a ladder, a step ladder and an aluminum plank to create a level workspace in order to access the light. The new pendant was lowered by 6 inches, compared to the old one, to allow easy exchange of light bulbs. The electrician was creative in solving some installation problems. He also saved me some money by advising me that some other electrical work I was considering might not be necessary."

"Great people to work with. Met with , he told me his suggestions and came back the next week as scheduled ready to work. completed the project as planned."

"They arrived early, fixed the problems (two lights quit working - circuit issue) faster than expected, & much less expensively than expected! I will definitely recommend Brothers to friends/family."

"I can't say enough about and (husband and wife team owners of ). This was our first remodel and we were nervous given the horror stories about contractors from friends and family. We knew as soon as we met that we wanted to work with him if his proposal came in as reasonable, which it did. At our first meeting, he was low key, easy to talk to, and honest. He was the only contractor we met who told us that he could not personally remove the asbestos tile which covered the entire remodel area since it was dangerous and he did not have a license to do so, but that he could find someone to do it who was licensed and expert in this field. The other contractors we interviewed either did not know what kind of tiles they were looking at, or just said they could "rip it up".
The end result of the remodel was amazing. We could not be happier with our new basement. The entire process was smooth. and 's communications to us were outstanding. At the beginning of the process, they asked us how we'd like to be communicated to about the project. Although we spoke to every day to ask or answer a question or two, they sent us detailed project updates via email every week, as well as if they had larger questions requiring more detailed answers. or one of his contractors was on our doorstep at 8AM every day and went right to work, and by 6PM when we arrived home, they were just packing up. and his team cleaned up after themselves every day. and are extraordinarily conscientious. They would update us constantly and let us know if there were any minor issues that were being fixed. came back several times to readjust a large medicine cabinet just to our liking. Although he is not an interior designer by any means, he would always give us good personal opinions when asked on wood finishes, door selection, layout, etc.
The cost of the project was competitive. You might find some general contractors who will tell you that they can do it all for a slightly lower cost. I can't see how one person can be enough of an expert in all these areas - carpentry, electrical, plumbing, tiling - to do a really good job. We appreciated the fact that brought in true experts in their field to do the job right. The painter was so thorough he went over his work every night with a flashlight. The night after the remodel was complete we had a minor issue with the plumbing which was corrected immediately the next day. But that night we called and he was immediately on the phone with the plumber, who called us right away and was in the next day to fix the problem and follow up with us. The electricians were creative and flexible as we brainstormed with them about how and where we would put in new fixtures throughout the basement. As a result of the expert workmanship that was able to bring in, everything was done well, and it shows. Another thing I'd like to point out is that was more than fair with us when the inevitable surprises occurred. For example, we had selected very small glass tiles for our entire shower stall. We had no idea how challenging and tricky this type of tile is to install. After and , who are very experienced in tiling, discovered that they could not do the job perfectly for us to meet their very high standards, they brought in a senior expert to do that part of the work. I'm sure it cost them a pretty penny to do so, but the cost was not passed on to us. The work was exceptional. I found out later from a friend that she had installed the same tile in her shower and her "professional" was unable to install it straight and it ended up slightly wavy. Another point I'd like to make is that and passed along all their trade discounts to us, they did not " up" the wholesale costs to make a profit on us. Their philosophy is that if they were not involved in going to the stores to select the tiles, fixtures, and carpeting, they would pass along their discount.
At the end of the project, and gave us a gift basket and brought in a cleaning service. What a treat, though it should have been us giving them a gift. and care deeply about their business and it shows. They are highly conscientious, excellent listeners, flexible, patient, have a good sense of humor that carried us through the very few and minor but inevitable "hiccups" in the project, extremely responsive, and they care about the quality of what they are doing. They are highly professional and we trust them completely. We have since brought back in this week to provide us with an estimate for some custom cabinets in our dining room. I highly recommend and would use them for almost any other work."

"They came to install the surge protector, and said their was a problem with the breaker box and they would need to do 150 dollars worth of work to make it suitable for the surge protector. Then they said 150 wasn't enough, and they would need to charge an extra fifty dollars to change some circuit breakers for 20 amps to 30 amps or vice versa. Their website said they did free home safety inspections for electricity, so they quoted me at 200 dollars for another electrical issue we were having. They fixed it but then came back and said they had to add an extra junction box for 50 dollars. Then we got the bill and it had and extra 50 dollars for "misc repairs from home safety audit" We called to discuss the issues. The owner said he didn't know what the extra fifty dollar misc charge was. He agreed to send back an extra 150 dollars but only sent us 100.
Update: There is another report for the bait-and-switch coupon issue for 3/11/11. told me on the phone that 5% of houses have this problem, which means that he's planning to charge 5% of the people who buy that coupon an extra $200. At no point did he say anything was wrong with the breaker box; this is not reflected in either the original invoice, nor the updated and clarified invoice. In his response below, he strongly implies that the breaker box had been "played with" and was "dangerous!" It hasn't been touched since my home was inspected for purchase a year ago.
The basement lighting was very bad, which we knew about, and was the reason we asked them to look at it.
We did approve the repairs as they were made, but the technician changed his estimates four separate times, and we felt railroaded. When hiring an expert contractor, you don't expect them to repeatedly change their estimates, write down $9 for a $48 repair, or call you a liar for trying to resolve the issue. "

"Overall it went quite well. There were several small details that weren't done right the first time but was extremely responsive to every issue we brought up and had everything immediately fixed to our satisfaction for no extra charge. OTC's price was much more competitive than the other bids we received and we are very happy with the end result. Workers were all polite and nice. Timeline was essentially as expected."
