"When we started opening up the walls, it became apparent that this project was bigger than I had initially intended.
Minneapolis Architects Provider Name Locked
managed the project with ease. His crew was very professional and respectful, always cleaning up at the end of the day and very kind to my cats who were there for the end of the project when we moved in.
Minneapolis Architects Provider Name Locked
took the time to explain everything to me and was very patient in doing so.
Minneapolis Architects Provider Name Locked
still checks in on the house to make sure I'm happy with the work. He's incredibly passionate about what he does-maybe too passionate! But that's what makes him good. He cares about my house about as much as I do. That kind of passion is hard to come by.

Minneapolis Architects Provider Name Locked
's unique background as an artist gives him a creative
Minneapolis Architects Provider Name Locked
in the industry. He designed and built a lofted ceiling in my living room after noticing that I had the ceiling space to do it. The space reflects the history of the house but has this really neat personal touch too. His projects reflect the strong design and creativity of an artist, craftsman, and contractor. I will hire him again if I need anything else done on my house.

"Their design work was creative, imaginative and sensitive to the home and the neighborhood.
Minneapolis Architects Provider Name Locked
was excellent. We went back and forth many times before settling on a concept.

Their work was top notch, in fact truly craftsmen-like, for instance on the stoop and retaining walls their crew would
Minneapolis Architects Provider Name Locked
out the stones, then dry fit them one by one before finally assembling them with mortar, the result is truly stunning and something that will last for generations.

When they built our garage they worked slowly and methodically, making sure every nail was placed correctly, correcting any that say missed a stud. Very impressive work quality. I should mention they are not fast, and they were not slow, their speed was methodical and what you would expect in creating something of lasting quality and beauty.

I would not hesitate one minute to recommend them as we have many times.

"Working with
Minneapolis Architects Provider Name Locked
&
Minneapolis Architects Provider Name Locked
was a real pleasure, especially as compared with a previous project done by another (inexplicably award-winning) design/build company. We began the project with our own ideas/sketches of what we wanted to do, and they had many very thoughtful suggestions as to how to accomplish and improve upon our 'design.'
Minneapolis Architects Provider Name Locked
has an amazing breadth of knowledge across all areas of remodeling - even those areas for which he hires subs to do most of the work (which helps him to properly monitor the work done by subs). It was particularly helpful that the very talented lead carpenter (
Minneapolis Architects Provider Name Locked
) was also the contractor, which meant that, for much of the project, the contractor was on site every day - so that our questions or concerns were addressed by him directly and immediately. Mother and young daughter were very comfortable being at home with the

team and all of their subs - they were all good guys and took care of our home as if it were their own. Any question or concern we had with work done by subs was addressed immediately with them by

. There were no 'surprise' change orders or additional costs - any possible change was discussed with us before the work was done.
Minneapolis Architects Provider Name Locked
seemed to have respectful, positive relationships with the inspectors for each area, filed all permit paperwork on time and took seriously any issues raised by the inspectors. The final plan was really a collaborative effort, between ourselves and the

team, and we love how it all ended up looking and functioning.
Minneapolis Architects Provider Name Locked
, an architect, did not formally work on our project, but did offer some helpful input. We have seen her work, done for several neighbors, and have been very impressed by her thorough and thoughtful designs. We would not hesitate to recommend

to our friends and family and hope to work with them again, in the future.

"They did a great job. Before we bought our home, they visited a few others with us to give us a basic remodeling ideas and an idea of a project budget. When we finally closed on our house, they worked with us to integrate a fireplace into the living room, and they put together a plan for a third story bedroom and bath. The reason we went with Shelter is that we wanted something a bit more modern and designed - not just a typical suburban fireplace and bedroom, but something more interesting. We got what we were looking for. They gave us three fireplace ideas; two were pretty standard (small fireplace under in the middle of a wall), but one was unique - a corner fireplace with a bench extending along the wall. We went with the third option, and it looks great, and really adds to the character of our living area. We haven't started the second project yet (attic bedroom/bath), but they've given us some good ideas already, and we'll continue to work with them when we start the project. Our project was tiny compared to what they normally do, but they still did a great job."

"Prompt, offered new ideas in design and planning for our lake home. Listened well incorporating our ideas into overall plan."

Minneapolis Architects Provider Name Locked
did great work on the design piece. He was creative, reasonably priced and easy to work with. Only glitch is that the first structural engineer had little experience with our type of house and we ended up having to obtain a second opinion. Because
Minneapolis Architects Provider Name Locked
had recommended the first engineer (and the second one too), he wrote down his time related to the second opinion and we thought that was fair. The second structural engineer was very knowledgeable and worked out well. All in all, I would highly recommend
Minneapolis Architects Provider Name Locked

"We were very happy with the drawings done in 2008. We hired a carpenter to begin building the addition in 2010 and during the very beginning part of the building process (framing) serious problems were found with the drawings. This is a detailed description of our experience with
Minneapolis Architects Provider Name Locked
in 2010: The architect
Minneapolis Architects Provider Name Locked
the truss line and bearing point markings in the wrong place on the 2nd story. He was off by 23 inches. The truss line and bearing point markings are all very clearly
Minneapolis Architects Provider Name Locked
out. There is a side view section that is 1/2 the size of the plan sections where there is a small marking saying "brg wall" but shows no support under the truss beams. This side view section also does not include distance/measurement markings. The carpenter was installing the trusses that were made according to the plans and it was discovered that the trusses were nearly 2 feet from the bearing point and were too far offset to support the full roof load. The architect was called out to discuss the problem and the solution was to install a new bearing point all the way to the basement. This required a new footing to be created nearly 2 feet diagonally from an existing column. Once confronted, the architect initially claimed that there would always have been that bearing point in the basement but he forgot to draw it and "unexpected things like this happed during a remodel". When pointed out that something that's supposed to be on the drawing isn't "unexpected" then he referenced me to the small section mentioned above and claimed "My intentions are clearly shown" despite the wrongly placed truss and bearing point markings on the build plans. The architect wouldn't admit to the drawings being wrong in any way and then claimed "A general contractor would have caught that" knowing I'm acting as my own general contractor. Then claimed "an experienced builder would have caught that" and finally "the truss manufacturer should have caught that". The mistake while not a huge deal in the scheme of things does prevent me from getting that pool table in my basement like I've always wanted; The location of the new bearing point post prevents a pool table from fitting. An apology would have been nice. _______________________________________________________________________

"When
Minneapolis Architects Provider Name Locked
came to my house she immediately understood what I meant even if I did not have the appropriate architectural terms and correct styles of houses. I said I wanted an entrance with open window, little arches and brick and stucco, that is it, that is all I told her. She came up with three fabulous ideas, she suggested awnings which will ultimately be less expensive and look on the drawing as being very cool. She gave me lots of choices and she understood how to make the entrance more functional and attractive. I loved her drawings immediately and would suggest anyone who needs any size project done and wants it to fit with the rest of your house's design, call
Minneapolis Architects Provider Name Locked
, she will give you something classy, yet inexpensive to build, and ecologically sound. It will be well worth you money in the long run plus her prices are very reasonable.

"What they came up with was amazing! We were very surprised with all of the ideas that they had. They were very flexible and willing to come meet with us at our home at six in the evening. They helped us deal with code issues that came up with the city. They have also continued to take an interest in the project as it is being built."
A
"They are very punctual and environmentally friendly! They were very pleasant to work with and they finished the work within a week of when they said they would. A real breath of fresh air!"
