Internal Medicine reviews in Memphis
One may have to wait a little bit to see Dr
I only wish I had started seeing him sooner!”
A couple of years ago I was offered an appointment at 2pm (the same day as my call) if I could get there within 20 minutes. I dropped everything, rushed over and found there were about 8 people waiting in front of me. By 4:00 I had talked to the staff a couple of times about what was going on. They said that although they knew I couldn't be seen until well after 3:00, they told me to come at 2:00 since that was the only appointment time available on the computer. I wound up not being seen until after 4:30. It seemed beyond their comprehension that they could have put me into the computer at 2:00pm and then told me to come at 3:30pm since they knew they appointments were backed up.
During the wait the tv plays medical waiting room shows (for which assume the Doctor is being paid), and no one is allowed to mute the tv (even when I was the last patient waiting), so reading requires concentration.
Also some of the staff seems deficient in basic math. I was told that 8am until 2pm qualifed as a sufficient fasting period before giving blood for analysis. When I showed up to give the blood the lab technician asked me if I had eaten in the past 12 hours, I told her the receptionist had told me 6 was enough, then I listened as the lab technician tried to explain to the receptionist how to calculate 12 hours. The fact that I had to make another trip after having an actual 12 hour fast did not seem to bother the anyone.
I have also learned that --apparently, like many Doctor's offices -- patients are seen in the sequence that they arrive, not based on their appointment times. So to see the Doctor without a lengthy wait, try getting the first appointment after lunch and show up 30 minutes early. You'll be first on the sign-in sheet and that might help.”
